Today is the big day. I should say, the first in a series of big days, culminating in the election of Ned Lamont to the U.S. Senate in November. Today is the official announcement of Ned Lamont's candidacy. So far, he's raised over $84,642.16 through ActBlue, earned the support of more than 1,000 volunteers from across the state, made an appearance on Air America Radio (download here) with Sam Seder, and even gotten ol' Joementum a little riled up, as detailed at LamontBlog.

If you can make it today, please come. If you cannot, please send your friends. The announcement is at 4:00pm, but you should arrive early. Here are the details:

I've done a lot of writing about how great I think Ned Lamont is over the past couple of days. To me, it's obvious that Joe Lieberman has got to go. Visitors to La Resistance certainly deserve better than just a hunch from me, so I present exhibit A in the case against Joe Lieberman.

So far, Ned Lamont is the only serious possible contender. Here's what I think we can do to help:

Go out to meet Ned. I really think that the more support he gets in these early stages, the less likely he is to back down from the challenge. Once you meet him, you'll know he's serious. Because he wants to win, I think he needs a strong showing of early support to make his decision to run easier. He ought to be able to "hit the ground running" so to speak, by generating buzz and gathering supporters prior to his official announcement.

Lamont should be commended for making himself so accessible. He granted an interview to MyLeftNutmeg last week. He went to a small cafe in Hartford last night. He spent some time answering questions in the comments section of a weblog tonight. The next thing on his agenda appears to be an appearance at the New Haven Public Library on Saturday January 28th, 10:30am.
