In the next days and weeks we will be hearing a lot from our friends on the right about this great buisnessman who changed the world and how he is a testament to the Good Ol' USA. Don't let a single one of these comments go by without reminding people that Apple wouldn't be Apple without the massive government investment into the creation of the internets. I just had that conversation with a Republican friend of mine and she could do nothing but agree.

Sorry this is so short but my brain is on hiatus after a string of brutal split shifts. This topic needs to be fleshed out before the right wins with their own false narrative.

My wife and I threw a pretty crazy party Saturday night so I spent all day Sunday trying to recover. When I wasn't eating something I was sleeping. Then I would wake up and eat again. My body was not happy with me at all. Around 9PM PDT I decided to take a look at dKos and see what I missed during the day.

That's when I came across a diary saying that Bin Laden was dead and the US had the body. This being dKos I immediately checked for a "snark" tag. Finding none I start contemplating a stay in rehab because my brain seems to have been severely damaged the previous night. Before making any rash decisions I decided that checking CNN might be prudent. That was when I saw the headline and the crowds cheering in front of the White House. To be honest those first moments made me quite uncomfortable. Cheering the death of anyone seemed a bit creepy to me. But then something struck me about the crowd.

This evening I received an E-mail from a Republican friend of mine. It was a forward of a letter by Bud Day who was tortured in Vietnam and is a medal of honor recipient. I will put the full letter in the extended box and am hoping that together we can put together a cogent, link filled response. I've already pulled some links myself but this place has always proven awesome at putting together full rebuttals to these types of things.

I'd appreciate no vitriolic responses, only measured fatual ones. That's not to say that I won't be hard on my friend for some of the absolute bullshit in the letter. I will be quite hard on him because he is a better man than this.

This will be a pretty short diary. As many already know, Wayman Tisdale passed away last Friday at the age of 44. Tonight my radio station will play a one hour tribute at 10:00PM PDT. You can listen here while you blog. It should be a nice show with his music, interviews and memories from people who knew and worked with him. I hope you will join us.

Wayman Tisdale, who scaled the heights in two high-profile careers as a professional basketball player and a chart-topping recording star, died May 15 of cancer at a hospital in Tulsa. He was 44.

Mr. Tisdale first gained renown in the 1980s as a three-time All-American basketball player at the University of Oklahoma. As a 6-foot-9 power forward with a soft left-handed shot, he was practically unstoppable during his college career, averaging 25.6 points a game.

For many months this past winter we were hit with an ad campaign for "Frost/Nixon." The most famous clip from the movie was one of Nixon's most famous comments. 'If the President does it, it's not illegal.

Condi seems to favor that argument:

"The president instructed us that nothing we would do would be outside of our obligations, legal obligations under the Convention Against Torture... Enflamatory? Yup, but you'll see where I'm going with this pretty quickly.

At what point do the people tell the Redstate Editor to go to hell? At what point do we get off the couch, march down to Erick Erickson's house, pull him outside, and beat him to a bloody pulp for being an idiot?

At some point soon, it will happen. It’ll be over an innocuous issue. But the rage is building. It’s not a partisan issue. There is bipartisan angst at liars and inciters to violance made worse by dumb posts like this and unintended consequences like The Tennessee Church Shooting.

Were I at home, I’d be cleaning my gun right about now waiting to protect my property from the coming riots or the Redstate Strike Force coming to try to start violence.

Every once in a while I head over to the supposed winger answer to dKos known as Redstate.com. Nothing brightens my spirits more than reading those clowns getting all riled up by something that they get stuck in their empty little heads.

I know this diary may not be well received here but I think it's time to chill out on our Hillary attacks. While her comments about white voters can only be described as assholish, wrong headed and somewhat racist I think it is pretty clear that she knows she has no shot at winning. Her arguments are about demographics and her speaches since Tuesday night have been about her vision for America and how we must beat McCain. In the last two days she has said that she would work FOR the nominee more times than I have heard her say it all year.

IMO she is trying to make sure she can raise enough money to get her campaign out of debt and pay herself back the $11,400,000. This isn't one of those silly diaries saying that we should pay her debt, this is a diary saying we should chill out and let her leave the race gracefully.

I have grown more alarmed each day as I watch the hateful rhetoric escalate between the two candidate camps on the internet. Both sides have been attacking the other with such vitriol that I fear we are about to damage our party beyond repair. Whether it's hatred toward "hilbots" or "Obama cultists" doesn't matter, both sides are equally responsible when it comes to the left side of the blogasphere. And if it continues, both sides may be equally responsible for a McCain win.

For the most part we simply disagree on who is the best candidate and who would be the best President. That is all. On the vast majority of issues we all agree, with only slight differences within those issues. But the thing that we all agree on whole-heartedly is that a Republican in the White-House would be catastrophic for our country.

What the fuck is going on around here. This is a site I used to be proud of. It's a site that I told every Democrat I knew about. It was a site where extremely bright people could come and work towar getting rid of the GOP and develop great ideas to make our country better.

No more. I don't tell people to check out the site because I am embarrassed by the people here. It has become Freerepublic, Redstate and Instapundit rolled into one. People will say the most vile things about candidates they oppose and then a bunch of their like minded haters will jump right in.

Even people who have been here forever, who have shown that they are rational and willing to fight the GOP any way they can have been taken over.

Right now, near the top of the rec list, is a diary that claims Bill Clinton attacked the other Dem candidates as Swiftboaters. It has generated 500 comments, the vast majority of which are livid at the comparrison.

The only problem? Clinton never said it. (Full text below the fold) Read what he said and ask yourself, why would the media claim that that is what he said?

Because that is what they do. It's something that all of us have complained about. It's what I have been fighting against for well over a decade. It's why new media is as big as it is.
