As if there wasn't enough heartbreaking news out of Louisiana and Mississippi, there is this heart-wrenching news I just read:

Workers in Houston report that over 500 children are missing. According to Houston CPS spokeswoman Estella Olguin, if the parents can't be located within a reasonable period of time, the children are placed in foster homes by Child Protective Services until they can be reunited.

President Hugo Chavez said Friday that U.S. leaders share religious broadcaster Pat Robertson's hope he will be assassinated, and that if any plot is carried out U.S. President George W. Bush will be to blame.
Chavez brought up Robertson's remarks as spoke to supporters at the presidential palace, saying "he has expressed the desire of the elite that governs the United States."

"If something happens to me, the responsible one will be George W. Bush, he would be the murderer," said Chavez, who has repeatedly accused the Bush administration of plotting to overthrow him. Read More

I was just listening to the BBC World News, and their item on Jean Charles de Menezes. It blew my mind because of the lack of impartiality of their story and editorial line.

They linked the arrival of Brazilian officials in London to the thousand or so Brazilians killed by police in Brazil! And, said it was ironic that London police had recently trained Brazilian police in various policing tactics. Read More

I know that "lying" is a strong word to use, but how else would you describe the following:

Scotland Yard was yesterday challenged by London Underground officials over CCTV footage taken from three cameras trained on the Stockwell tube station platform where the mistaken shooting of 27-year-old Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes by armed anti-terror police took place a day after the failed bombings on July 21.

The police returned the three CCTV tapes saying that they were blank and no good to the investigation. But London Underground officials and transport unions have challenged this claim suggesting that the tapes have either been lost or erased. Read More

Well, the woman who runs this site thinks this gives her the right to post such disrepectful comments such as this one:

This is truly the end of an era. Now we have dopes joining the US military and complaining about where they are sent to fight, and idiots camping out at the US President's ranch because someone's kid died in combat, as though what he joined was not the military but rather a college or summer camp or something. News flash: When you join the military, the idea is that you give your life to your country. Like, duh. Here in Canada, the last surviving recipient of the Victoria Cross died this week-end.

There have been stories about him in all the major newspapers.

His earthly remains are being honoured by being exposed in Parliament. He was received with full military honours. The Prime Minister and Governor-General came to pay their last respects. Read More

At a ceremony attended by Cuban-Americans from South Florida, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice named Caleb McCarry to a new post to promote the democratic transition of Cuba.

Rice said that US President George W Bush created the commission to "accelerate the demise" of tyranny on the island nation.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has again warned he could take action against Kurdish guerrillas in Iraq if U.S. forces did not stop the rebels infiltrating across the border into Turkey. "At the moment, frankly speaking, we do not see the efforts by the U.S. that we expect to see. We have expressed our views to that effect to the Americans," Erdogan said in an interview yesterday with Britain's Times newspaper. "There is a time limit. There is a limit to our tolerance," said Erdogan.

He said Turkey was within its rights under international law to defend itself from attack and drew a comparison with U.S. action against Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Read More
