It strikes me as both disrespectful and simplistic to confidently predict that African Americans, or Latinos, or any group really, will all do this, that or the other thing. I get that there are records, polling data and so on that support such thinking and that there is some degree of truth in it, but it ignores the fact that people aren't all that predictable and are in fact extremely complex beings – whatever race they may be. A true and complete picture of any given people in all of their depth and complexity at a given moment in time is a difficult thing to achieve with any degree of accuracy, or so I would reckon. We over-simplify reality in order to grasp it, but that doesn't change its tricky nature. That's why relying on the conventional wisdom is such a poor substitute for thinking on one's feet, or thinking for one's self.

Three of the world's richest and most powerful people (and Timothy Geithner) had a good laugh over income inequality earlier this year.
Former Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin, Henry Paulson and Geithner were asked about the issue by Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg during a conference in Beverly Hills. When Paulson responded that he'd been working on income inequality since his days at Goldman Sachs, Geithner quipped, "In which direction?"

"You were increasing it!" cracked Rubin, as everyone on stage roared with laughter.

I want you to know that my diary before last was not addressed to people of color. That truly is not what I intended to do. It was only addressed to people who dishonestly smear Bernie. I did not at all mean to address that to people of color. Forgive me that it could even be read that way. I'm not telling anyone they are wrong to read it that way, just please believe I didn't mean it that way.

I was angry, emotional and in fight back mode. I admit it was over the top. It was the emotion. I've been told all my life that I'm too emotional. Please forgive my shortcomings. I have more than a few.

Personally, I don't put a lot of faith in polls, but many people do. How polls are designed or administered can affect the outcome, and I believe they are often used by manipulative people trying to control the dialog. But that's just a personal opinion and I am admittedly paranoid and distrustful. For those who do trust in polls, here are some interesting tidbits:

Racism is a serious problem that deserves every bit of the attention it receives and then some. That's why I wrote Why Black Lives Matter most. The focus of that diary was the horrific violence against African Americans that is raging throughout this country, how that trumps political considerations and the absolute imperative of stopping it NOW.

Ya gotta hand it to Trump. Dude went straight for the asshole vote. He alone understood just how many assholes there are out there. He has obviously calculated that if he just let's his inner asshole loose and just says any asshole thing that comes to his asshole mind that his popularity will soar. Damned if he wasn't dead on. So kudos to the asshole savant. The scary thing is that he might become King of Assholia.
