So the whitehouse kids website has a kids site with some math problems which Dan Droller of Music for America discovered were both convoluted and wrong.

Editor-in-chief of U.S.-funded Iraqi newspaper quits, complaining of American control

On a front-page editorial of the Al-Sabah newspaper, editor-in-chief Ismail Zayer said he and his staff were ''celebrating the end of a nightmare we have suffered from for months ... We want independence. They (the Americans) refuse.''

Al-Sabah was set up by U.S. officials with funding from the Pentagon soon after the fall of Saddam Hussein last year. Since its first issue in July, many Iraqis have considered it the mouthpiece of the U.S.-led coalition, along with the U.S.-funded television station Al-Iraqiya.

This is big news. I watched Citizen Kane for the first time last night -- Orson! Oh man; fuck Hollywood for breaking that artist -- and so the permutations are coming hard and fast. The main takeaway, though, is that the Editor (and apparently most of the senior staff) of our own Pentagon-funded "friendly" paper walked off the job after publishing a scathing front-page attack on the very existence of the US occupation. This is not a good sign for the occupation, but maybe it will wake some heads up in DC that (guess what?) a growing majority of Iraqi people don't want us over there anymore.

The economic news just doesn't get any better for Team Bush. The spring hiring bump wasn't the grand slam they were hoping for, and now those pesky liberals over at The Center For American Progress have come up with this stunning little statistic:

Canada is kicking our ass at creating jobs.

Maybe NAFTA is to blame. Maybe it's the war. Maybe it's all the do-nothing hippie potheads lazing about campus. Whatever the reason, the comparative numbers don't look rosy for us here in the land of the free.

It's not pessimism, it's realism. Our current economic priorities are straight-up busted. Voodoo economics isn't working, and our generation is going to be paying for Bush's slash and spend binge for years to come. It's aboot dignity. It's aboot respect. It's aboot...

Quick echo I picked up.

Anyone else catching whiffs in the air surrounding the WH Press Corps that remind them of the hunger for a "mea culpa" moment from Clinton at the height of his sex scandal?

People are clearly realizing the President has made some errors. The longer he refuses to acknowledge this, the wider the gulf between him and the press will become. The question is whether or not this will drive his public approval up or down.

Clinton faced impeachment over a blow-job and his approval rating rose. Bush is getting away with murder... maybe this will make voters realize that it's up to them to contain him.

Sunday afternoon was beautiful in San Francisco. I took my bike up some hills to one of the hilltop parks, sat there on the grass looking out at the city in the sun, thinking about how it aught to be.

The United States and the rest of the world are in trouble on numerous levels. I'm not being pessimistic. I still think humanity's chances are decent, but I'm not willing to cheapen the gravity of the situation. The way life works now can't go on; cementing the status quo is not an option. I'm a big one for saying, "we can do better than this." Here are some of my specific ideas.

It's a tall order. My idea of what a 20-year agenda might look like, but that's the level I think on. At some point I want to have children. This is the world I want for them. Let me know what seems interesting to you; there's a lot of thought behind all of the enclosed proposals, and I can expand upon any of them in future entries. Read More

I posted this earlier today, but I'm trying to promote the heck out of it, so here you go again:

David Corn over at The Nation was the first person I heard report that Bush made jokes about the complete absence of WMDs in Iraq at the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association Dinner. Said Corn:

It's a formal-and-fun affair where thousands of media folks assemble at the Hilton for a fancy dinner and fab pre- and post-parties. I'm not going to denigrate such soirees. I enjoy them.... But an awful you're-all-alone moment came during George W. Bush's comments that followed the sit-down dinner.

Bush shows pictured of himself looking around the Oval Office, remarking, "those weapons of mass distruction gotta be around here somewhere." The Washington DC audience ate it up as the CSPAN cameras rolled. He worked the room well, but this isn't a laughing matter for those of us who have friends and loved ones risking their lives in Iraq right now; to say nothing of those who've suffered the ultimate loss.

The other day, Music for America's Massachutsetts coordinator, Jason Beek, sent me this great little tune that he and some friends sat down and recorded. Following up on Cheney's Duck Hunt with Supreme Court Justice Antonin "Tony" Scalia, "Mr. Talliman" (as in, "Hey Mr. Tallyman. tally me banana"), laid down this tune: "Dick Cheney is a Duck Hunting Man."

As for the band name, Jason says that's a long joke on American Capitalism imposed on its southern neighbours, and it sounds like Talliban, which is topical. Lead guitarist is Ken Galli, Jason Beek on drums and Robbie Phillips on the wombat(bass).

One of my biggest beefs with Bush is the non-public way in which he conducts the affairs of state. He doesn't make appearances in public. He doesn't answer unscripted question from reporters. And he spends two to three months running the country in private from his ranch.

Is it any wonder I'm not surprised that the same administration which doesn't allow comments on its blog is actively trying to insure that the content of whitehouse.gov doesn't show up on google?

Take a look at this:

This file, more than 1800 lines long, lists all the areas of the whitehouse.gov website which are not to be indexed by search spiders.

Apparently, Rove fears the work of googling monkeys.
