Today Anthony Weiner D-NY had the unmitigated gall as to defend Israels actions in international waters.

This was about instigating an altercation and they succeeded," Weiner, one of Israel's leading allies in Congress, told me. He insisted that the activists piloting the flotilla were offered other alternatives by Israel, such as docking the ship and transporting the supplies to Gaza by land.

"If you want to instigate a conflict with the Israeli navy it isn't hard to do," Weiner continued. "They were offered alternatives. Instead they chose to sail into the teeth of an internationally recognized blockade."

Pushed on whether the Israeli response, which killed at least nine, was disproportionate, Weiner wouldn't acknowledge it. "It's always easy to criticize the response to a hostile act, but for a week at least the Israelis were trying to prevent this altercation," Weiner said, adding that the Israelis had been "set upon."

There are so many things wrong with his depiction of events where do I begin?

It's understandable when people feel the need to defend Obama for not doing enough to stop the oil leak in the Gulf. I'm certain he's doing everything in his power to get this catastrophe fixed. I understand that a lot of frustrated people are demanding that he do more, NOW! And I understand that a lot of just as frustrated people are feeling like, hey, the guy's doing all he can do as fast as he can do it.

All of that is understandable.

What's not understandable, what's really at the heart of the matter here to begin with, is the issue of what the hell were they doing to begin with?

California banned offshore drilling after a Unocal oil rig began leaking off the coast of Santa Barbara in 1969. The US Senate banned offshore oil drilling off most federally controlled waters in 1980. Bush I grudgingly banned offshore oil drilling off Alaska, the west coast and the North Atlantic. Then, just before leaving office, the Chimperator lifted the presidential ban and urged Congress to write new legislation. Congress did nothing.

It was President Obama who undid decades of preservationist policy by lifting the presidential ban that protected 85% of the nations coastline. 22 days later, we had the greatest manmade ecological disaster in history. Obama's timing couldn't have been worse.

There's an oil spill so big you can see it from space. It's threatening one of our most ecologically diverse coastlines. Yet, until Jane Hamsher pointed it out, the Sierra Club didn't even have a mention of it on their website 11 days later. She had to shame them into a reaction.

Seymour Friendly points out the major environmental organizations are doing nothing more than posting up pictures of the disaster and links for you to join them. Nothing is being done to sway the administration NOT to drill offshore.

For reasons beyond my comprehension, Jane Hamsher and FDL is hated on this website. Well, all I can say is, where's YOUR outrage Kossacks? Where are YOUR diaries demanding more be done? Why aren't YOU, Kossacks, standing against the president on this issue? Where's YOUR outrage?

Because if you continue to meekly tow the line, you're going to drag us all off the cliff.

HCR has been sent back to the House. Nothing, absolutely nothing - except the will to do so, of course - is preventing the House from putting the Public Option back into the bill and sending it to the Senate to pass 50 votes. The Senate HAS the votes. The House HAS the votes. And as we've just seen, the bill is filibuster proof. The Repugs came and went last night at 2:45 am. It's totally in the Dems hands now.

The Democrats are naked. They have no more excuses NOT to pass a public option. As Huffpost writer Ryan Grim rightfully points out:

The Senate is now free to put to the test that much-debated question of whether 50 votes exist for a public option. Democrats could also elect to expand Medicare or Medicaid, now that they only need 50 votes in the Senate and the approval of the House.

The question then becomes whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could pass the reconciliation changes with a public option. She has long maintained that the House has the votes to do so.

Stephen Webster over at Raw Story has an article titled "Obama Attorneys Argue for Warrantless Cellphone Tracking"

A US appeals court began weighing Friday whether police should be allowed to track citizens through their cellphones without first obtaining a warrant.

The case "could prove to be one of the most important privacy rights battles of the modern era," The Legal Intelligencer noted.

Adopting a Bush-era argument, Obama administration attorneys asked the court to allow telecoms companies to hand over their subscribers' location information, even without a probable cause warrant

As I posted a few days ago, once again, Obama asks "What would Bush do?"

On Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, in the state of Washington, the Supreme Court Fair Elections bill (HB 1738) was voted "Do Pass" (in favor) by the House State Government and Tribal Affairs Committee.

Members approving: Rep. Sam Hunt (chair; D-22nd LD); Reps. Sherry Appleton (D-23rd), Mark Miloscia (D-31st), Dennis Flannigan (D-27th), and Christopher Hurst (D-31st).

Voting no: Reps. Mike Armstrong (R-12th), David Taylor (R-15th), and Gary Alexander (R-20th).

Which begs the question: Why do Republicans oppose fair elections?

For the past year we've heard nothing except it takes 60 votes to pass a healthcare bill in the Senate. But just a few short years ago, there were rumblings of a Democratic filibuster to prevent the nomination of a man considered to be a radical activist judge of whom Ted Kennedy said:

The record of Judge Alito is clear and ominous.

The Senate Democrats could have prevented his nomination. They could have done exactly what the Republicans do when in the minority and enforced the rule of 60. They had 41 votes to filibuster the Senate. But they folded. Why?

Every move Obama has made has one underlying consistent theme to it: He's doing exactly what Bush would want him to do.

Promise to withdraw from Iraq? Well, hold on here! What would Bush do? (WWBD) Bush would put Gates in charge. Check.

Banks have porked our economy. WWBD? Bush would bail them out. Check.

Demands for investigations into Bush's wrongdoings. WWBD? Bush would want to nix those investigations. Check.

And now, today, Obama has an economic disaster on his hands. The obvious solution that history teaches us is that the Government is America's friend. That, as FDR said, "we are not alone." But instead of learning from greater men that came before him, Obama asks: "What would Bush do?"

WASHINGTON – White House officials and Senate leaders predicted on Sunday that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will be confirmed for a second term.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said a new four-year term for the central bank head is needed to ensure stability in the financial system. Lawmakers would send a bad message to financial markets by "playing politics in any way" with Bernanke's nomination, Gibbs said.

Obama called Senate allies on Saturday to make his case for Bernanke, whose term ends Jan. 31. The Senate is scheduled to vote on Bernanke by week's end.

Oran's Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as: "...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]." In many nations, it is also often considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aided or involved by such an endeavour.

As of today, foreign governments can seriously injure the United States of America by throwing huge amounts of money into the political system. The Constitution gives free speech to AMERICANS. The SCOTUS just gave free speech to communist China. To Iran. To Russia. To any government that can control a multinational corporation.

Five Supreme Court Judges need to stand trial and if found guily, pay the consequences for this greivous act. That's the law of the land, unless they decide to overturn THAT part of the Constituion too.
