This is a just for fun diary...yesterday was my 8th anniversary at DailyKos.

I came here via Whiskey Bar and the wonderful billmon who sort of sent me to Talking Points Memo (before comments!) who linked to DailyKos. So many of us were frustrated with the political system and the candidates and of course, W. We came here and found like souls. Nothing has changed except the names of the players and the names of the bloggers. We are all still fighting for more and better.

Back in 2004 the big issues here were primary wars (of course) and it was Dean / Clark / Kerry.

This is a diary for old timers to check in with a walk down memory lane...and some fun info / inside jokes passed along to newbies! aka n00b's!

Lots of people at DailyKos have now gotten familiar with our little group called Tree Climbers.

Something that we have all discovered is so much of the trauma, struggle, success, and activism in our lives is out here in Recent List land (and rec list!!).

Behind all the phenomenal survivors and there stories, we are just normal people! So this new Friday night series...an open thread if you will is here for everyone get to know who the survivors as just average folks!

Please unrec the April Fool's diaries...all of them. The Pootie Prank™ was a success. Time to get back to the real life business of saving the country and the world!

Many folks at DailyKos are aware of the regularly posted diaries by many, the Pooties, Wozzles, Furrbutts, etc. Our reigning queen of these diaries is triciawyse.

But, once upon a time, many eons ago (in blog terms), we had another Pootie Queen: PhillyGal.

I encountered PhillyGal back in 2004. Before the elections, before photos were the norm, and waaay before Cheers & Jeers made it out of the right hand column. I would like to take you all on a trip down memory lane, and the source of our unique name for cats:

Yes, there are thousands of new users on DailyKos every month.

Yes, a lot of diaries are opinions.

Yes, there are a lot of absolutely amazing diaries that are loaded with facts and links that are the heart and soul of DailyKos.

BUT there are so many outrageous assertions that are posted on a daily basis that I kind of wonder what happened to some of the old stand-by questions:
Where's the link?
What's your source?
Prove it with facts?

I've read so many diaries recently that have wielded a very broad brush against other Democrats I'm not sure what to say. So I guess I'll make a list of the "broad brush" stuff that has me pondering things tonight.

Before the flame throwing starts:
I will vote for the Democratic nominee.
I will not vote for McCain or anyone else without a D next to their name.
I have not donated to anyone except Edwards and Dodd.
I am 50ish white woman.

If I don't actively support Clinton so I'm sexist.

As a middle aged woman I'm racist if I don't support Obama.

As a white person, I'm racist if I don't jump on the bandwagon to smear Clinton as racist.

If I have fiscally responsible values, I must be GOP and an idiot.

If I try to be conscientious and work with GOP acquaintances and friends then I'm a fool and should ignore them.

This is another one of those mixed up, only a few people will read diaries.

I voted for Edwards, long before he suspended his campaign. I'm a middle aged, upper middle class, professional, and a white woman. I've voted Democrat since 1982 or so. I was a Goldwater Republican and then an Anderson independent in 1980. There are a lot of others on this blog just like me...okay...more of them are guys...but whatever.

Below the fold is a few things where all the over~the~top diaries are getting on my nerves.

This is a simple diary...Thank you to donnamarie, cedwyn, Marcus Tullius, and gchaucer2 ~ in their own uid roles ~ and as Liveblog, and all the others that have herded us cats for the last 5 days.

It looks like the marathon live blogging of the Southern California fires is closing down. We'll be on stand-by if needed (all the Gods and Goddesses please forbid!).

But there have been so many people that have been helped, so much information that has been shared, and just good old emotional support offered...time for a thanks!

Time for a rant! I just damn well don't believe what is the sense of this site and us as 'participants'!

I'm skimming through the diaries...and there are a number on Katrina this morning. Several have 4-10 comments. Some have only 1 or 2.

- Are we paying attention?
- Are we any better than Bushco in ignoring what we don't want to deal with?
- Are we doing anything to help with the rebuilding of LA, MS, or AL?

Yep - let's talk about CT-Sen and Joe getting uninvited to a parade or let's talk about impeachment when we don't even have a majority in the house.

This is written with love for those that have lived this story and those that love the ones that have lived this story. I always recommend reading this with a box of Kleenex handy...but that's just because I always need them. This is a response to a dear friend with love in my heart.

Choices were made by a little girl - decisions well beyond her years. The choice was to escape violence and sexual abuse. The choice was to not live with incest as her sister had. This is a little girl's story...and a woman's.
