If this is remotely close to the truth, then I can't quite grasp the scope of what is going to happen next...

Those familiar with information provided to Fitzgerald say that shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Wurmser was handpicked by Harold Rhode, a Foreign Affairs Specialist in the Office of Net Assessment, a Pentagon "think tank," and Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith to head a top secret Pentagon "cell" whose job was to comb through CIA intelligence documents and find evidence that Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States and its neighbors in the Middle East so a case could be made to launch a preemptive military strike. Wurmser largely invented evidence that Iraq had close ties to Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden, sources knowledgeable about his work told RAW STORY.

At least so says Richard Cohen in today's Washington Post:

The best thing Patrick Fitzgerald could do for his country is get out of Washington, return to Chicago and prosecute some real criminals. As it is, all he has done so far is send Judith Miller of the New York Times to jail and repeatedly haul this or that administration high official before a grand jury, investigating a crime that probably wasn't one in the first place but that now, as is often the case, might have metastasized into some sort of coverup -- but, again, of nothing much. Go home, Pat.

So do you ever sit alone in the dark and wonder how RoveCo was able to sell to the American people this idea of George W. Bush as a great leader?

Well dear people it's the magic of editing, and I offer you a perfect example of how wildly divergent a package can be from the truth.

Most people have seen Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." Jack Nicholson at his creepiest. Well, someone has re-edited the movie into a 1 minute trailer for a feel good movie called "Shining."

Take what you know about the truth (The Shining)and how it was packaged in such a way that it looks like a movie that would warm your heart (Shining).

Now understand that this is how George Bush was sold to the People of the United States of America.

DeLay indicted.

Republican Party tearing itself apart.

What do they need? Terror alert?

And it's BS. ABC News is reporting that the information came from Iraqi insurgents arrested last week. So now they get to claim a connection to Iraqi insurgents and domestic terrorism.

But in the ABC News Story is the following line...

Department of Homeland Security sources told ABC News they are very doubtful the threat information is credible

My Stream of Consciousness Take... He's listing the things that have been done. It's like he's reading a grocery list.

The speech he's giving is little more than a briefing that a spokesperson for FEMA should be giving every morning.

Reassurance? Confidence Building? None of that.

This speech is a big fat zero.

He's smirking. He comes off as clueless.

The end is full of the same platitudes you usually see, but nothing more.

This goes beyond politics...

Sometimes, things come right down to a hunch, and as I watched President Bush introduce John Roberts last night I was really struck by how emotional the man was, and it spoke volumes to me.

John G. Roberts exudes humility. Last night I saw a man humbled by the honor which was just given to him, without a hint of a sense of entitlement.

When he spoke of the lump in his throat that he got every time he climbed the marble steps that led into the Supreme Court Building, it was genuine, and people can't fake that.

Judge Clement to be named as SCOTUS nominee..

I've received a couple of emails that indicate the White House is preparing to announce Judge Edith Brown Clement of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Expect "Pro-Family" wingnut groups to a collective pseudosexual rapture over this nomination. This is the one they've been waiting for.

Expect the announcement soon if not tomorrow.

They're going all in with this pick. Start a fight on a different topic, try to save Rove and kill Roe.

This is an all or nothing strategy if true. It shore up the base, which they must do, because the base is all they have left.

I hope everyone has an appreciation for the magnitude of what's about to happen...

So, let's take a look at this as part of a bigger story, and forgive me for the length.

The PNAC group takes positions all throughout the administration.

They immediately begin planning to invade Iraq, as has been PNAC's dream since the mid 90s.

Amhed Chalabi has been involved with this crowd on a social and professional level for years, and knows exactly what they want to hear and what they wish to do, so he figures he will help them pain their picture for the President and if he plays his cards right, perhaps he'll be the next President of Iraq.

Cheney's Energy Task force starts to meet. Lots of questions arise as to who is in the meetings and what is being discussed. Executive privilege is invoked.

This is exceedingly strange, because why should the cost of gasoline over the next five years or the cost of heating oil be such a big damn secret?

OK people, it's simple.

Our little misadventure in Iraq has kept us from fighting the real terrorists. The people who made the decision to pivot our attention to Iraq without taking on the REAL threat of terrorism share some responsibility in what happened in London today.

This is going to be used as a reason why the American public should continue to be afraid, and it will be used by the Bush administration to illustrate why it's important to "stay the course."

This is all Bulls**t. The fact of the matter is that we should have been working for the last two years to prevent exactly what went on in London today. The fact of the matter is that we haven't. (I promise if you read below the fold, this will be pretty freakin' entertaining...)

First some background.

The State of Oklahoma has a much higher number of registered Democrats than registered Republicans. This is going all the way back to the 60's.

They dynamic in Oklahoma works like this: Most of the Democrats are really republicans and most of the republicans are domestically bred fascists.

Generally, people vote democrat for local candidates and republican for Congressional races or above.

That's because most democrats running for state office tend to run on a strict pro-gun, pro-God, anti-gay agenda.

Outside of that, they tend to stick to Democratic meat and potatoes issues of fair-wages and good education.

Brad Henry was something of a lucky sum'bitch, and I say that really liking the guy.
