For most of the past two years our nation experienced unprecedented jumps in the price of oil. Because so much of our economy is driven literally and figuratively by oil, the impact was profound. Many independent truck drivers now found they couldn't afford the fuel they needed for their routes. Average families had their budgets stretched to the brink. Big businesses and small businesses as well as municipalities alike now had to factor in fuel costs prominently into their budgets. Out of this crisis came two different reactions by our political parties.

I am not going to get into who is right or wrong in the I/P conflict. I have my own views on the whole thing but I have found that most of the people who actually believe either side is right or wrong won't be dissuaded even by facts. Eugene Robinson is just the latest journalist to reveal their hacktackular side this morning in his column entitled "A Playbook to Change". Now being as how Mr. Robinson is a frequent guest on "Morning Joe" everyone should have known the guy has shown himself in this one instance to be pliable when it comes to journalistic standards. But his column is just a joke, totally. Some how this asshat is equating PEOTUS Barack Obama being thoughtful and actually wanting to investigate his own staff before making a blanket statement absolving them to using the "old" playbook. Really? So when was the last time that George Bush DIDN'T come out and lie immediately and make blanket statements when a scandal came out? So when was the last time George Bush said he would release the fruits of an internal investigation into whether anybody on his staff engaged in questionable activity? No Mr. Robinson you see, this is the NEW playbook where it actually matters to the guy at the top that he gets it right the first time. It actually matters to him that his team is open and honest. It actually matters enought to PEOTUS Obama that he isn't willing to use the "old" playbook and promise things that might not be true just in the interest of politics and playing the media game.

I have been watching Morning Joe and have been posting on Swampland at TIME this morning and I just want to know, where are the pool reports. You see the WingNut tools of destruction (the RNC, FoxNews, Matt Drudge, Jake Tapper,
Michael Scherer, and Joe Scarborough) are hell bent on making David Axlerod's missstatement about PEOTUS Barack Obama meeting with Governer Blagojevich into a major news story and perhaps even a scandal. But excuse me, isn't there a pool reporter going everywhere with Barack Obama these days?

At what point did Campbell Brown jump the shark to become the typical political hack? I guess its too much to expect that someone who starts off telling it like it is will continue to do so once they "make it" but I had high hopes for Campbell Brown after the way she reported during the election season. Now that she has her own show Brown is using the same deceptive reporting techniques that we have come to expect from the likes of Bill O'Reilly and other Faux Newsers, and that for me is very dissappointing. Bigger than that, the whole of CNN has seemed to take her lead and started reporting on the instance in the same dishonest way. I am speaking of course of PEOTUS Barack Obama's press conference introducing Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and his response to a question about it. When you look at the facts it is unambiguous that Ms. Brown and her cohorts are misrepresenting the facts of what happened and creating a controversy where non exists. My only question is WHO is going to call them out for this. Keith Olbermann I know you failed me on the whole "Name General Cafferey Worst Person in the World" thing, but how about making it up to us by calling out CNN instead?

So I have been thinking this over ever since I saw the Lee Atwater biography on PBS a few days after the election. It just hit me how all of the bull that they were throwing at Obama this year was actually repackaged Lee Atwater smears. So earlier today when Jed Lewison had a post up about the Zeigler guy on FoxNews claiming that believing Barack Obama is a muslim is "rational" I decided to post a comment about an ad I would like for him to make before the next election cycle which could compare and contrast the tactics that Lee Atwater used back in the 80s and how those same tactics are used today almost in cookie cutter fashion. Well honestly my comment didn't get all that much attention (2 recommends) and that was cool because it is really just a pipe dream of mine even though I do think it would be effective to show some people who truly believe that they are getting the truth from the Republican party and FixedNews just how bad they are getting played by 20+ year old tactics. Well I was pretty meh about my comment dying a miserable death until I saw this. Now I am expanding my appeal to anybody who knows how to do this kind of work. I definitely think it would be worth it.

This is an open letter of sorts to Keith Olbermann. I don't know him but I have seen him post here in the past. I am a HUGE fan of his show though. In particular I enjoy the "Worst Person in the World" segment. Well in light of recent events I would like to enlist the help of Mr Olbermann and in a certain sense this help could be self serving. You see there is now a story going around the blogosphere that originated with a NYTimes article written last week. The substance of that article and the lack of a viable response from the NBC network has given a lot of us pause about the credibility of that network. So for the sake of the liberal blogosphere and for the sake of the credibility of your parent network, Mr. Olberman I ask you to name General Barry McCaffrey as "the Worst Person in the World" because it would seem he has definitely earned it.

Ok so for anyone who followed the Presidential election this year the name Michelle Rhee is at least somewhat familiar. In the last Presidential debate it seemed that both candidates Barack Obama and John McCain wanted to covet her as someone who agreed with their ideas for what to do with Education in this country. At the time I came away curious as to why they both held her in such high regard, but this time, for once, my curiosity didn't lead to a google search. But today over at Swampland, Karen Tumulty or KT as the commentors call her posted an excerpt from a TIME story about Michelle Rhee and another about PEOTUS Obama's views on education compared to Rhee's. This led to a discusion about her bonafides and what came out is a little unsettling at least to me. In particular there were references to daily howler stories about Rhee questioning her back story. The purpose of this diary is to get a conversation going before we all start lining up behind her proposals on education like people did with Bush lie of NoChildLeftBehind to disasterous effects.

I have been dismayed by the Right Wing's mindless attempt to sell to anyone willing to listen, the meme that no matter what happened on Election day two weeks ago America, remains a "center-right" country. The question for me initially was WHY did the Republicans feel the need to come out with this ridiculous notion that, although Americans elected a President that they tried described as a Socialist, the country really wanted to be governed with center-right principles. I soon switched my concern from WHY the right wingers were so obsessed with selling that pipe dream, to coming up with the answer HOW we should properly respond. So far I have seen responses from liberals/progressives/Democrats on TV that have run the gammut from saying the election WAS in fact a mandate for PEOTUS Barack Obama to govern from the left, to the WEAKEST SAUCE EVER that in fact America really IS center-right but the Democrats aren't really all that liberal anyway. So what IS the proper response? We stop disputing it and hang it around their necks! Allow me to explain how we can turn this meme on its head and continue the destruction of the Republican brand...

I saw Liebeman's interview on Katie Couric and I read the article on Politico and I had to actually really laugh out loud. So many people were saying "just trust Obama" or "its all about 60 votes" or "its not that big of a deal" and even quite a few were taking issue with Markos himself and how he responded to the betrayal. But its just hilarious to me that it didnt even take a day for Joe Lieberman to show all of the people supporting this course of action along with the Senate Democrats how he planned on paying them back for giving him the benefit of a doubt. I commented about this on a thread but it was suggested to me that it should have been handled as a diary and thus I have converted it. Now there is a fair amount of gloating over the fold and I make no apologies for it. I won't respond to any concern troll criticisms with any more than a smile because as Colin Powell famously said "you broke it, you bought it"

This started off as a comment on a "we will never be taken seriously" thread on the recd list. I'll bet by the end of the week we will have heard every possible reason in the book as to why we should just hold our tongue and let the Democrats take us for granted and like it. How in the world does this make sense to anybody? Why even HAVE a progressive website if all we are going to do is endorse any and everything the Democrats do and rubber stamp it? Are we really so "elitist" that we fear by using cuss words we will lose our relevance? NEWS FLASH yesterday it wasn't just the Dailykos community that was told their opinions don't matter. It wasnt just the dailykos community that was outraged at the level of cowardice exhibited by our Democratic Senators. Yeah we might sometimes express our displeasure with a few more f-bombs than other folks but the truth is we were the rule and not the exception yesterday. So maybe some of you "high brow" folks who love talking down to the masses here at kos about how we reacted to the Democratic Senators caving to Lieberman need to STFU and focus on YOURSELVES and how YOU want to respond to the situation.

Here is my question. Are we just sheep who blindly support the Democratic party or are we true progressives and liberals with brains of our own? I ask this question in light of the Joe Lieberman saga played out right before our very eyes. The fact that today it is looking increasingly like our Senate Democrats will allow Joe Lieberman to keep his chairmanship of the Homeland Security committee over the objections of the overwhelming majority of the netroots should be sounding a clarion call amongst us. But I have found over the last week a lot of talk about not cutting off our nose to spite our face. Is that what we have really come to? And if so how are we any better than Wing Nuts?

Update: For all concern trolls how do you feel now that you waited to hear for sure that the Democrats have no spine and are a bunch of cowards and you got to see and hear it from Joe Lieberman's own mouth? Now what do you have to say?
