Please, everyone reading this, send one email, phone call ((804) 786-221) or fax ((804) 371-6351) to the Governor.  Here is the email I just sent:

    Governor McDonnell:

I am extremely upset at the new regulations on abortion clinics that have now been passed by the Board of Health -- as I understand it, under some pressure from yourself and the Attorney General.

It is very clear that these unnecessary regulations are just attempts to restrict women's freedoms, under a mere ruse of public safety.  No one is being fooled here.  I understand that you have religious objections to abortion, and that is fine.  I respect that.  But I resent very much indeed what is clearly an attempt to impose your religious views on the rest of us who may not share them -- and this in the state where Mr. Jefferson wrote his pioneering Charter of Religious Freedoms.

I am a man who will never need an abortion, and most likely no one in my family will need one.  But unwanted pregnancies do occur, unfortunately they are part of life, and for our government to prevent a woman in crisis from dealing with that situation as she sees fit, to force her, in effect, to go out of state to find the healthcare professionals she needs, is an outrageous wrong, and will particularly victimize working women of modest means and no time on their hands.  Note that your absurd restrictions will make life truly hellish for women who have been impregnated through rape.  And of course this will lead to some illegal abortions, with catastrophic health consequences.

I am angry, Governor.  Please stop this.

    Thank you.
