But seriously, what do they think is going to happen if they ever accomplish their fantasy of completely banning abortion?

How do they think their constituents will feel when family members with  difficult pregnancies requiring an abortion die? Or when relatives who are raped are forced against their will to carry the child to term? How will they feel when victims of back alley abortions start dying?

It's easy for Republicans to dismiss these women in the abstract. It will become much harder when the woman in question is their wife, sister, mother, girlfriend, etc.

    Just ask Lenore Romney.

The relative he was referring to back in ’94, Salon has learned, was a Detroit woman named Ann Keenan. She was the sister of Romney’s brother-in-law and died at the age of 21 in 1963, a full decade before Roe v. Wade. While much of what happened remains murky, an investigation by Salon has uncovered never-reported details about her life and death, including: how she died (an infection); that her grief-stricken parents asked for memorial donations to be made to Planned Parenthood

When I referred to "the Republicans" in my comment, I meant the rank-and-file - the middle class and the poor. I think many of them would change their tune very quickly if their daughters, wives, mothers, nieces or friends, died because abortions were banned.

I mentioned Lenore Romney only to make a point. She became pro-choice after someone close to her family died as the result of a botched abortion.

    •  here's the key to their strategy: (5+ / 0-)

      "R-selection" vs. "K-selection."

These are reproductive strategies used by animals in general, humans included.  You can look them up on Wikipedia.

R-selection: have lots of offspring, invest relatively little effort into raising each one, and enough will survive to propagate the species.   High birth rate, high death rate.  Quantity over quality.  Example: seahorses.

K-selection: have few offspring, invest a lot of effort into raising each one, and enough will survive to propagate the species.  Low birth rate, low death rate.  Quality over quantity.   Example: primates.

      Republicans are all-in for R-selection.

Progressives are usually all-in for K-selection.

"Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.
