Anyone who was in the movement or supported it in any way, knows that OCCUPY was not about getting Barack Obama re-elected, although given the alternative I'm sure everyone in and near the movement supported President Obama.  In essence, the movement was about pointing out the huge and immoral (if not illegal) economic disparity that exists in this country between the top 1% and the rest of us, and laying the ground work for rectifying this disparity.

In the next few weeks, a legislative drama will play out in Washington which will determine if we see some actually fruit produced by the OCCUPY tree.  While the political tide is moving toward a tax structure that will force the 1% to pay more, we must be cautious that the deal does not demand equal (or greater) sacrifices from the 99% in the form of cuts to entitlements and other social programs vital to the welfare of the 99%.  Any deal that does that will simply perpetuate the disparity at a different level, and do nothing to resolve it.

If we can get simply a deal that extends the current rates for the 99% while letting the tax rates go up for the 1%, without any other significant give backs that effect the 99%, it will at least be some small progress.

    Cautiously Optimistic!
