  •  quick question (5+ / 0-)

Are the pharmacies government-run or private businesses? I am just wondering if that direct-to-pharmacy prescription could be duplicated here? Right now I am waiting on a med that the pharmacy had to fax the request to the doctor and I have to wait.

Oh, a little summer cottage there just made it to the top of the "list of what I want when I win the lottery". I can't immigrate, with a teen son and good husband, but I could certainly enjoy some loooong vacations there.

    •  They're private. (6+ / 0-)

But alcohol sales are run by the state. ;)

Housing near Reykjavík is expensive but elsewhere is surprisingly cheap.

    •  Yeah, what's with the fax to doctors thing!? (3+ / 0-)

I scratch my head about that one. Doctors are the only ones I know who still use fax (sometimes). I have some doctors that are starting to have their patients use personal inboxes in the doctor's own private medical office web-based password-protected email system. I understand the necessity to protect a patient's privacy under HIPAA. But I just don't understand why faxes can't be replaced by something a bit more modern--they are just so 20th Century. I hope that people looking at updating to modern electronic patient records look at Iceland as one of several existing models.
