a few times for a long weekend, because it's so close and easy to get there. And the food is super cheap. It's sad how few Americans we find there.

Of course if you go to Cancun, you can find plenty Americans there. But it's all resorts and such. Very little engagement with Mexican culture or real life. I think Americans are largely scared to try dealing with something different from home. Even at home it's tough to get some people to get a meal at a restaurant that is not a chain. We're largely chained to familiarity as a security blanket.

Its definitely got an "edge" even in the nice parts of town, but its also very cosmopolitan and beautiful. I had a ball at the Floating Gardens and mucking about near Frida's house.  gorgeous tree lined streets, great art, great food, great music. Avoid the green cabs and drink bottled water and you're generally golden.

We have not gone to the floating gardens of Xochimilco yet. I think that's a Sunday thing, right? Need to do that.

I did manage to get ripped off by taking an unmarked taxi on our first visit. Learned a lesson. What should have been a $2 ride cost $10 or $12. So it annoyed me, but no serious harm.
