  •  No president in our history has ever had... (13+ / 0-)

the goalposts moved more often than Barack Obama.

If I had written on this site in, say, 2005, that the next president would...

    1. Save us from another Depression.
    2. End the war in Iraq.
    3. Kill bin Laden.
    4. Get national-healthcare legislation passed.
    5. Save the U.S. car industry.
    6. End DADT.
    7. Put two excellent folks on the Supreme Court.

...I would have been mocked as a lunatic.

Obama's record of accomplishment is astounding, and, no doubt, I'm forgetting numerous things.

Now, having said that, anyone should feel free to criticize away when it's called for. His administration has been far from perfect, and I'm almost always in agreement with the diarist's opinions.

But there's just a nagging sense that with this president, the reaction of so many is always "yes, but..."

It's grown well past the point of becoming tedious.

How about I believe in the unlucky ones?

just how much is different, not just from the rule of the GWB, but what could have been the uninterrupted pursuit of the same policies under the 'not Obama' President.

And I like Hillary Clinton, I think she could make a good President,  I will find something to like about the next person nominated as the Democrat, and legitimately have reason to support that person over the next Republican, too.    But whoever the nest Dem nominee, they will disappoint us, too.   But they will still leave the country better off than they found it, overall, than any Republican.

Obama has caused me great disappointment, but not the fear I felt when Bush was in charge and the economy was dissolving all through 2007/2008 and endless war on a much larger scale seemed probable with McCain, etc.

And just maybe Obama is looking at climate change as a legacy issue, and while he won't fix the path we're on in four years, he could make the average American think about the things that worry me,  that there is an unthinkable future ahead if we don't start to change in big ways really soon.   Negatve changes to the environment can't be avoided at this point,  but maybe extinction of most life can be.

is the testament to this President's effectiveness.

That Obama, or anyone, could take a more progressive posture is a constant. To conflate that with poor leadership is myopic.
