in my adult formation classes i always say "bring me the question no one has ever been able to answer for you before"

"The question no one has ever been able to answer"? I'm not sure I'm up to dealing with that -- though I'd love to know what it is for some folk.

My premise in leading Bible study (or worship, or just individual pastoral conversations) was always that questions lead to understanding, and doubt is a healthy bulwark against passivity. If a person's God isn't strong enough to accept that we poor human folk don't yet have all the answers tidily digested, and that the grand scope of the cosmos (or just life, or what to do about Aunt Sally, or whatever) can leave us befuddled and a tad lost, then that person's God isn't God enough.

So, what kind of questions do you get in response to your invitation?

and I've been doing this a long time.

mostly misunderstandings about the doctrine of the Trinity... "isn't it child abuse for God to kill his own Son on the cross?" and stuff like that
