    •  "Pre-emptive" means "bad," right? (0+ / 0-)

      •  Reminds me of a scene from The Simpsons. (0+ / 0-)
Chief Wiggum: You wouldn't happen to know anything about a cigarette truck that was hijacked outside of town, would you?
        Fat Tony: What's a truck?
Chief Wiggum: Don't play dumb with me!

action preventing something: action that makes it pointless or impossible for somebody else to do what he or she intended

Or did Syria attack the United States and I haven't heard about it? Are you saying that a US strike wouldn't be preemptive?

Weird that you would suggest something so ridiculous. Not surprising who would agree with you though.

....missile attacks. Yeah, I know. That sounds funny.

But what is being proposed is NOT regime change. What is being proposed is the same stuff Clinton did in 98 when Al Qaeda bombed the embassies: he authorized missile attacks on terrorist bases in Afghanistan--and was accused of "wagging the dog" by rightwingers who, like Cheney and Rummy pre-9/11 didn't think Al Qaeda was a real threat.

Assad is using chemical weapons on civilians--which is who you use them on since the military is pretty well equipped with protective gear.

If people are cool with that....

This is not a rinse and repeat of the Iraq War. No way, no how. It's not even a war. It's a punitive act. Now, we can debate the merits of that, but I wish folks wouldn't confuse proposed, limited missile strikes on Syrian military assets with the invasion of Iraq.
