  •  The only thing forcing us to do anything at all (4+ / 0-)

Is Obama forcing himself into this corner. Nothing good can come of it. It is a bad idea. It is also illegal in some ways. It also will aggravate our interests. It will kill I intended people and could cause genocidal hate towards minority Christians. It also has no objective.

as much as he wants another hole in his head.  It's not popular, it's not clear what we can do, and as Mets's diary so nicely outlines, there's a lot of potential collatoral danger here.  Over the last week or so he's really waffled on his prior comment so I don't think it's about saving face.  To be honest, I was shocked when I heard Kerry speaking up and suspect the administration was none too happy about what he said.  It seemed so off message.  His words carry a lot of weight with me on this issue.

      •  Well, he sure seems to be heading for it (0+ / 0-)

with all dispatch.  And either you have to believe that he's a foreign policy idiot (which I don't) or you have to believe that he made that "red line" statement knowing that it would likely result in a situation comparable to this.

What's great about the red line is that now anyone who wants to draw America into war knows exactly what they have to do.

The party of Kennedy is also the party of Eastland. The party of Javits is also the party of Goldwater. Where is our party? Where is the political party that will make it unnecessary to march on Washington?
