  •  It isn't only that the GOP has lost ground (18+ / 0-)

    among key voter groups.  It is also that the Democratic party has gained respect among groups that have been lukewarm to non-supportive.  We've earned grudging respect for our ability to govern and put the national interest above party interest.  Democrats are getting a serious look in a lot of red states right now.  We may not win a lot of these races, but we will make headway.

    The key to winning elections is clearly going after the base vote.  However, the key to governing is to change the culture in red regions to be more accepting of the Democrats.   We need a 50 state strategy to invest in red states over the long term.

      THIS! Yes, Yes, Yes. And stress economic populism. It turns red states/districts purple and allows a hearing for liberal views on social issues--which turns purple states blue.
