  •  No, the chained CPI will hurt anyone who (8+ / 0-)
    Ryan doesn't cut THEIR SS or Medicare...  they are already over 65  
    doesn't expect to die within the next four or five years.  Cost of living increases in Social Security, already marginally adequate, under the Chained CPI will fall behind the real cost of living a little bit every year.  The longer a person expects to live, the less they will have to live on.  Younger senior citizens who are now in fairly good health have a lot to fear from the Chained CPI.  

    Me, for example: I'm 62 and healthy.  My father is still living at age 96 and my mother died recently at age 93.  I figure I'll live at least another 25 or 30 years if climate change doesn't get me.  Applying Chained CPI to my retirement benefits would really screw me over.  

    Anyone under 80 years old who isn't fatally ill should worry about benefit cuts like the Chained CPI.
