  •  the Pentagon may have (9+ / 0-)

amounts that have been lost stolen or strayed in excess of the cost of health care over the last decade alone.  That place is a budgetary cess pit.

    •  I believe that Donald Rumsfeld announced.. (8+ / 0-)

on September 10th, 2001 that the Pentagon was unable to account for 2.3 trillion dollars.  Later, that sum was reduced to 1.1 trillion dollars  Much if not all of that missing money occurred before W. even took office.

Now, before someone accuses me of a conspiracy theory, look it it up.  I found the above figures on 9/11 mythbusting site called 911myths.com

If our congressmen and women are truly worried about our national debt and our budget deficits, shouldn't we ask them to use some forensic economic slueths to properly identify where that missing 1.1 trillion dollars went?  We're not talking about someone change drawer coming up short at the end of a shift here.  We are talking about 1.1 million stacks of a million dollars each.  That is about 1/16 of our total national debt and would keep Social Security in the black for another 8.15  years (2041).  remember, no one was arrested, no one was fired, no one got sent to the Guantanamo health and day spa for their questioning about this.  It was just, "Those darn accounting systems are so old and junky, no one really knows where that money went.  I'm sure it was all good and it probably went to the right peole for the right things."  What's a trillions here and a few hundred billion there.  No worries but tell them that a black mother of three babies got food stamps after she was not permitted for being a felon and stop the car and let out the dogs.  Five years in prison even after she paid the benefit back!

If the Republicans are really so worried about the deficit,  maybe they should tighten the belt around the largest, most wasteful portion of our budget and look into where all the money goes in the black hole known as the defense budget.
