    •  As a general rule I agree. (10+ / 0-)

Chris Christie has been amenable if they are funny.

At this time he reaps what he has sown.

    •  We are making an exception in this case. (10+ / 1-)

I have decreed it with all the power invested in my by virtue of holding UID 25,978. That is to say, no power at all, but Christie's bulk is such a part of his self-indulgent, refulgent, resource-hogging, rapacious personality that it is truly part of his character and open to ridicule.

It is the reason he had to take a LIMOUSINE from a HELICOPTER to go 300 feet to his son's baseball game.

It is horrifying, laughable (in his case) and a part of his character and not just his physical appearance.

If you hate government, don't run for office in that government.

      •  Bd, have you read Chris Hedges article? (10+ / 0-)

        He says the same thing.

And I totally agree with both of you:

        The Trouble with Chris Christie

        and from that article:

Christie is the caricature of a Third World despot. He has a vicious temper, a propensity to bully and belittle those weaker than himself, an insatiable thirst for revenge against real or perceived enemies, and little respect for the law and, as recent events have made clear, for the truth. He is gripped by a bottomless hedonism that includes a demand for private jets, huge entourages, exclusive hotels and lavish meals. Wall Street and the security and surveillance apparatus want a real son of a bitch in power, someone with the moral compass of Al Capone, in order to ruthlessly silence and crush those of us who are working to overthrow the corporate state. They have had enough of what they perceive to be Barack Obama’s softness. Christie fits the profile and he is drooling for the opportunity.

        snip

When Romney met with Christie at the governor’s mansion in Princeton to obtain his endorsement, Christie not only demurred but warned Romney he better not approach any major donors in his state. “If you jump the gun and start raising money here, you can certainly kiss my support good-bye,” Christie told Romney, according to the book. The authors describe the conversation as “something out of ‘The Sopranos.’ ”

The article is excellent, which is why I put it in my sig, but couldn't figure out how to create a link in my sig.

Oh well.  So, Bd, you, I and CH all see the same thing.  (and I am sure loads more.)

      •  So fat jokes are sometimes ok. Fucking wow. (0+ / 0-)

kos disagrees with your priorities and justifications:

Any language designed to denigrate someone on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, physical appearance, etc. is prohibited. Leave that shit to the Republicans.
HRd.  There's plenty to skewer CC.  Leave the body shaming to the Repubs.

Let's keep our comments related to the Fat and Furious scandal and avoid these kind of juvenile jokes.

This guy is a dangerous bully and thug who has no compunction about saying anything about anybody. This is no time for us to be all dainty and "better than that." This is why the liberal side becomes ineffectual and mockable at times — we not only don't fight as dirty as they do, we don't fight at all.
Getting vapors over a fat joke is inappropriate given the subject and what he has done. Get over it.

from CH I posted just above, CH explains that CC's size is symbolic for his hedonism, excessive behavior, etc.

I am tired of folks of try to be pc saying we shouldn't talk re. his weight.  Hey, this guy is not 30, 40 or even 50 lbs overweight.  He is 100's of pounds.  That is a problem.  There is serious denial going on with him that he doesn't admit it is a problem.

I know weight control is a v. tough thing; I struggle with it all the time, and I am not at my ideal WW weight, but working on it.  Weight is a very real factor in one's health, and unless someone has a medical condition, I think that such excessive weight is fair game for criticism for what it represents about a person.

Now, on the other hand, if someone is hugely overweight because of poverty and lack of proper food, that becomes another issue.  But the point is, it is a symptom of a big problem.

        Pun intended.

        •  The problem with your train of thought is that (6+ / 0-)

it misses how using his weight against him harms everyone else with a serious weight problem - all those who are not rapacious or bullies, but are now seeing being overweight as being tied to those qualities.

It's not that using Christie's weight against him is unfair; it's that using Christie against the overweight is unfair.  And that's what all the fat jokes and using his weight as evidence of his evil qualities is effectively doing.

        •  Christies obesity is by definition (2+ / 0-)

a medical condition.  Most people could not grow that obese regardless of how much they ate.

My problem with Christie is that he's a fucking bully.  He could lose 200 pounds and I'd still hate the fucker.

        WTF?

Has Brit Hume's macho logic won you over?

Or you're experiencing Stockholm Syndrome and now appreciate Christie's bullying style?

Yet another reminder of how flexible some kossacks are with their convictions and morals.
