    Most hymns and anthems are known to most people only in the first stanza, but a line in the third or fourth stanza strikes me as something we need to work on:

    Thine alabaster cities gleam
    Undimmed by human tears.

    Too many Americans, especially those with power and those who believe what those with power say, seem to be intent on creating MORE human tears, as long as they come from OTHER humans.

      Self-control, liberty, law.  What odd concepts for a society to espouse!
