  •  well, there's a problem (6+ / 0-)

It's not just "one vote." He has loudly and vigorously staked out a position that puts a lot of American families at risk, and that is hard to tolerate.

I think reasonable people can disagree about this one. But trying to weigh consequences as best I can, I agree with you.

    •  Yes it is. It's one vote. (1+ / 0-)

Only one vote. That's what the multitude of diaries excoriating Stupak are ALL about. One. Single. Vote.

You don't agree that Stupak's role has gone well beyond "One. Single. Vote."?

        •  That's not the point (1+ / 0-)

My point is that you can have a guy that votes wrong on this issue and right on all the others or you can have a guy that votes wrong on this issue and wrong on all the others. Given the choice, I'll take the former.

If he can be (a) successfully primaried by someone who can beat the Republican candidate or (b) forced by a strong-but-not-strong-enough primary candidate to change his position, I'm all for it. Absolutely. 100%.

This is only a cautionary diary, not a "rush to defend Bart Stupak" diary. I despise his position and his actions on this. I"m just looking at a much larger picture.

          •  OK, and here is my point: (0+ / 0-)

It isn't as simple as that, because the harm Stupak has done goes far beyond his vote. As long as you seem to attempt to gloss over that fact, a lot of people will tend to discount your perspective on the "much larger picture."
