Wait! Before some of you think, “Neat. A ship.” and read no further, come with me for a minute. No hyperbole, this ship speaks to my soul. For those who don’t know (or haven’t made that wild leap based on my previous diaries), I majored in History with a focus on U.S. Colonial history. Not only is this ship named after our Constitution, but it was named by President George Washington! Paul Revere actually created and forged the copper bolts and fastenings that were used on the USS Constitution. How cool is that? Paul Revere, who played an integral part of the American Revolution, forged part of the ship that was named after the very document our nation was founded on, named by the very General turned President who won key victories for our independence, that fought in the War of 1812 against the British. He had served with honor in the Royal Navy through shot and storm since he was thirteen. But at about three in the afternoon of Sunday May 7, 1797, while floating peacefully at anchor and within sight of friendly shore, he threw a hissy fit. He lost his mind.
