<title>Will Colbert Nation save the galaxy?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/5/17/1209860/-Will-Colbert-Nation-save-the-galaxy</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Christ marshaled his apostles to venture into the world to do good, sans guns. Why don&#x2019;t we emulate?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Who can build that peaceful army of do-gooders? Only someone who can preach to the world. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Is Stephen ready to lead the Colbert Nation to a better world? &#x26;nbsp;Ask him what he&#x2019;s going to do about this letter that was sent to his lowly paid interns several days ago.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Colbert Report is making a bunch of noise since yesterday when &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/407712/february-02-2012/america-s-biggest-super-pac-donors&#x22;&#x3E;Steven Colbert listed the Top 22 Super PAC donors&#x3C;/a&#x3E; revealing half of all Super PAC money came from their $67 million in contributions alone.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2012/02/stephen-colbert-says-super-pacs-buying-democracy.html&#x22;&#x3E;From NYT coverage&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, Colbert says:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x22;I am sure that the good government goo-goos out there are saying this is just handing all the power to the 1% when in fact 22 people in a population of 300 million: That&#x2019;s 7 one-millionths of 1 percent,&#x22; Colbert said, tapping away on his trusty calculator until it spewed smoke. &#x22;So Occupy Wall Street, you&#x2019;re going to want to change those signs.&#x22;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Two of the 22 donors were &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Bob Perry (TX)&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;, who gave $3,600,000 to &#x22;Make Us Great Again&#x22; supporting Rick Perry, and &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Paul Singer (NY)&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; donating $1,000,000 to &#x22;Restore Our Future&#x22; backing Mitt Romney&#x27;s candidacy in the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://articles.latimes.com/2012/jan/31/nation/la-na-super-pac-20120201&#x22;&#x3E;Republican Presidential Primary flooded with billionaire money&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;But &#x3C;em&#x3E;did you know&#x3C;/em&#x3E; that &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Perry and Singer are TWO of the Michigan Republican Party&#x27;s Top 10 donors&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; for 2010? Yep, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.mcfn.org/pdfs/reports/MCFN2010_CitGuide.pdf&#x22;&#x3E;that&#x27;s a fact (Page 94)&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

Meijer, Frederick &#x26;amp; Lena&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; $339,000&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
DeVos, Dick &#x26;amp; Betsy&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; $334,754&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Moroun, M.J. &#x26;amp; Nora&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; $333,225&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Nicholson, James &#x26;amp; Ann&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; $302,704&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Actually, as you can see, if you add Koch and Cohen to the list, &#x3C;u&#x3E;FOUR&#x3C;/u&#x3E; of the Top Donors to the Michigan GOP are billionaires from out-of-state.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;You might just check in YOUR STATE&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Welcome to a new country, and states too, bought and paid for, thanks to Citizen&#x27;s United and the 1% (inside and outside) your state, as this shows.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sarah Palin Vindicated:  Colbert Re-enactment Proves It!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/6/7/982824/-Sarah-Palin-Vindicated-Colbert-Re-enactment-Proves-It</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Last night&#x27;s Colbert Nation was the site of an historical re-enactment of the ride of Paul Revere. &#x26;nbsp;Host, Stephen Colbert even put himself in harm&#x27;s way by saddling up to a &#x3C;strike&#x3E;real,&#x3C;/strike&#x3E; &#x3C;strike&#x3E;live&#x3C;/strike&#x3E; department store rocking horse to demonstrate how firing warning shots, and ringing bells whilst screaming &#x22;The British are coming, the British are coming&#x22; and warning the British themselves they&#x27;re not taking our guns ... is not only plausible! &#x26;nbsp;But it even shows how Paul Revere put his life in danger with this epic feat.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Colbert on (lack of) Justice Thomas: &#x22;it was a reward ...&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/2/18/946575/-Colbert-on-lack-of-Justice-Thomas-it-was-a-reward</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Does your employer require you to sign a conflict of interest disclosure, violation of which can lead to your firing? &#x26;nbsp;Would your boss be happy to hear that you didn&#x27;t let him know about how your day job influenced your spouse&#x27;s earnings? &#x26;nbsp;If you&#x27;ve ever (and even if you haven&#x27;t) had to sit through an ethics lecture, it is pretty clear that there are so no go lines that -- if crossed -- set you up for firing and, potentially, prosecution. &#x26;nbsp;This is about one of the clearest issues re ethics and legal issues for any professional in a large organization (Corporate, government, or otherwise): avoid hidden interlinking of your personal and professional interests.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This clarity, however, clearly seems to have escaped at least one Supreme Court Justice who has taken trips funded by Corporate interests, who funded his wife&#x27;s projects, and who had significant roles in major cases where Justice Thomas provided the/a deciding vote ... and Justice Thomas did not -- contrary to the law -- identify the money going to his wife.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is all okay, after all ...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Justice Thomas always rules on the side of more corporate influence in our elections.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;So this trip to Palm Springs wasn&#x2019;t a bribe&#x2013;it was a reward!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
