I posted a comment, below, that the Times did NOT publish online. I am reposting it here. Donald Trump has never forwarded even one top secret email -- containing only public information -- to a government employee unauthorized to view that email. Hillary Clinton sometimes did that as often as twice in a month out of more than 1,000 emails received per day. Not only that, Hillary Clinton had a private server for her emails, just like each and every member of Trump's cabinet. The Times has not published anything about the private servers used by the members of Trump's cabinet, but did publish front page stories asserting that Hillary's private server -- which was NEVER compromised like the DOD and State Department servers were -- was potentially a nefarious act harmful to the American way of life. Thom Friedman said the same as did every reporter, editorial writer, and op ed writer at the Times, but for Paul Krugman. Perhaps the NYT in devoting its resources to report about Hillary Clinton's email procedures and devoting hardly any resources to reporting about Trump's 40+ years of uncharged crimes and NEVER fully reporting the potential bad consequences for the USA with a Republican Congress and a President Trump failed its readership and our country. We will NEVER see in print a "Mea Culpa" from the Times. We most certainly NEVER, EVER see a "Mea Culpa" from Maureen Dowd. They took a break to bring on their very own Dr. Siegel to remind everyone that there is a flu epidemic out there, partly in result to much lower effectiveness than normal of the flu vaccine. Fox News cannot tell you what kind of government policy or agency might be able to help mitigate this issue—already having spent much of the 2000s attacking places like the CDC—they can really just tell you the normal things: wash hands, stay away from licking children's’ faces—that sort of thing. As the segment ended, Dr. Siegel remembered at the last second there was a backdoor way of reminding people to get their flu shots—ask the “friends” Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, and Brian Kilmeade. Both Doocy and Earhardt say they got theirs! <blockquote> Kilmeade: No, I have not gotten mine. Earhardt: He doesn’t get them. Siegel: [maybe joking?] I’m going to try to give Brian one off the air. Alright, but they’ve got to build up their immunity, too. </blockquote> The end of the clip is incredibly awkward as Siegel is pushing on Kilmeade who says everything after “No, I have not gotten mine,” through clenched teeth. If you don’t know who Brian Kilmeade is, he’s kind of a mix between <a href="https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/6/3/1668008/-How-Fox-News-deals-with-23-million-Americans-losing-health-insurance-Blame-the-CBO-for-saying-so" target="_blank">dumb</a> and <a href="https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/9/21/1700291/-LOL-Jimmy-Kimmel-says-Brian-Kilmeade-kisses-my-ass-like-a-little-boy-meeting-Batman" target="_blank">dumber</a>. The fact of the matter is that the nature of immunizations is to get the body to produce the immunities they would normally create once becoming sick with the flu. The benefit being that you get all of the tools to fight the certain sets of flu without actually getting sick—with the flu. Even though this season’s flu vaccine has been much less effective than anyone would like, it still provides some protection and can also help minimize the worst of the illness if you should end up getting the flu anyway. The idea that the only way to build up immunity to things like the flu is to grin and bare it, is caveman talk. I don’t have them. I shot guns in the woods across the creek with friends. Even got a bird or two. It made me sick. I went duck hunting once. When the time came, I jumped up and shot a common merganser. Made me sick. I sat around with friends drinking and checking out their guns. I was scared. I’ve had a gun waved in my face by a drunk neighbor accusing me and a friend of robbing him. I was terrified. My friend talked him out of it and saved our lives. I’ve been robbed at gun point. I was terrified. Don’t know how I wasn’t killed. If I had gun, it would not have helped, and probably would have made it worse. Are my lack of gun toting credentials an excuse to not talk about gun regulation? It shouldn’t make a bit of difference. I support the constitution, which speaks of regulation. At least 58 dead and 489 injured by 1 shooter with an arsenal of guns in under 12 minutes. Getting caught up on the word arsenal? Yes, it could have been done with fewer guns, but it wasn’t. I don’t know how many were used. There was an arsenal of guns in the room. There’s multiple parts to this picture. Any of which can be regulated. Many even dare to say gun control, OMG. Notice that I have not written about being gun free or eliminating deaths by gun shots. Those are red herring arguments that are neither productive nor intelligent. Can we talk about gun regulation? And Obama was just a convenient bogeyman. Replace Obama with Pelosi, the UN, or any of a dozen other terms, and the paranoia is stoked just as well. The number of guns in the US has led to more gun sales to people all over the political spectrum who are scared of other people with guns. Speaking of delusion, tell us about how Americans just accept deaths in car accidents, and be sure to throw in some 5 digit numbers. In fact, the entire city is devoid of them. It isn’t like the entire retail world around here is dependent on them or anything. Cough...cough. Nonetheless, we’ve talked about the possibility of one of Trump’s ICE brigades coming to disrupt business in their gleeful search to round up folks for deportation...as they did recently in Mississippi. In fact, where I work we recently received a letter from them officially stating that they are budgeted to do three times the amount of visits in this area than last year. Oh, good. In order to be as helpful as we can to ICE, we have agreed that we should employ the “FU” middle finger salute, raised high over head, as soon as we see them. Each person, in turn, will raise their finger high until the entire workspace is filled with flying fingers. That will serve as a way to tip off any potential undocumented folks who might happen to be passing through the area that they should all rush up to surrender to the authorities, ahem, ASAP. Hopefully, no one will get confused and rush off in the opposite direction instead. That would be disastrous. Then instead of being locked up and deported, they’d go home to the loved ones that need them and the home they work hard to keep. We certainly don’t want that. To be completely honest, since later adulthood and its many responsibilities, it’s been mostly talk and voting, but I plan to resume a more active role now that I have less of these. I fully understand your disappointment and anger and some of your gut reactions to Hillary, and certainly the revelation that the DNC secretly promoted her over Bernie did not help, but please consider that she has had a long récord, beginnning in her youth, of promoting and effecting anti-poverty, anti-racist, and other progressive policies. You have of course heard this over and over again during the Democratic Convention and elsewhere lately, but it seems that the well publicized businesses of Wall Street speeches, the emails, Whitewater, her past position on the Iraq war, etc., - and could it be a touch of mysogyny? - as well as the hammering home of "Crooked Hillary” from the Trump campaign, have way overshadowed all this for some of you. She no doubt has her faults, but lots of what she’s done and what she stands for have been very good. Also, do you remember that in the early to middle days of the Democratic primaries Bernie and Hillary debated like mutually respectful colleagues and even spoke explicitly of this ( the one point at this time on which Hillary seemed combative, perhaps unfairly, was Bernie's position on guns), and it wasn’t until later in the campaign when things began to get really tight that Bernie began to paint her so negatively? This, after all, was a campaign, and that’s what political rivals (not necessarily opponents) do. Bernie certainly suceeded in effecting a move toward his policies in the party platform, and I don't believe that he would have fully endorsed Hillary unless he believed that she would be the best person to carry out an agenda in which he believed, for which you presumably supported and worked for him. I’ve read that some people do NOT think that refusing to vote for Hillary would be a vote for Donald Trump, but I don’t see how this can be. The race is extrememly close, and every vote will count. I have a hard time understanding how some of you who supported Bernie can believe that Trump would be an alternative choice, but have spoken to one person who said he just wanted “change.” I’m not sure that “change” from the status quo to more income inequality, more racism and xenophobia, diastrous policies based on minimal information, promises of things over which he has little or no control, like jobs, etc., as well as his less than sterling personal qualities, can be for the good. Please be different than some of our right-wing advocates and don’t base your thinking on sound bites, half truths, extremist thinking, or blind anger and pique — please try to go for the facts, consider the big picture, and put the good of the country and all of us before other considerations.
