<title>An open, heartfelt thank you to my Kos &#x22;quilt backers&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/10/21/795787/-An-open-heartfelt-thank-you-to-my-Kos-quilt-backers</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I received my healing quilt from Rain in Portland OR, today and I&#x27;ve been searching vainly for a way to contact each and every Kossack whose name is contained within the quilt, to send a personal note of thanks.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I cannot find a way to do that within Daily Kos, so I offer this up to each of you. &#x26;nbsp;I am so incredibly grateful for your tangible outpouring of support.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And below the fold, I list the names that I have found on my lovely quilt. &#x26;nbsp;I plan to read your words over and over again in the coming months as it seems I will have some time to do so while I go through treatment for my lung cancer.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Group Health works as long as you don&#x27;t have a serious disease</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/10/3/789252/-Group-Health-works-as-long-as-you-don-t-have-a-serious-disease</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let me introduce myself. &#x26;nbsp;I blog here and on the internet as moe99. &#x26;nbsp;I am a government attorney living in Washington state for the past 28 years. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have been a member of Group Health Cooperative, one of two medical cooperatives in the nation, since 1983. &#x26;nbsp;My three children were born at Group Health, and they were treated there throughout their childhood for inoculations, colds, even whooping cough once, and various broken bones. &#x26;nbsp;My needs were met there as well, for the most part. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with lung cancer, and the delays that are part of the normal Group Health experience make no sense at all in the present context and may operate to diminish my chances of full recovery. &#x26;nbsp;Let me explain below.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>the irony of Seattle&#x27;s Group Health Coop as Conservative Compromise</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/8/25/771954/-the-irony-of-Seattle-s-Group-Health-Coop-as-Conservative-Compromise</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Like most single payer activists, I would LOVE for Seattle&#x27;s Group Health Cooperative to become the model for the United States health care. And like anybody who actually knows what they are talking about, fell out of my chair laughing when it was proposed as the conservative&#x27;s disingenuous compromise.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Now don&#x27;t get me wrong. I am not proposing the the phony Co-op compromise in place of public option is a good idea. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;In reality, as they propose it, co-ops would be too small, too weak, and too prone to corporate capture&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; to play the competitive role that the combination of a strong public option coupled with a strong widely-open exchange are hoped to play.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009716402_grouphealth23m.html&#x22;&#x3E;But Group Health Co-Op of Seattle is a mostly wonderful example... of socialized medicine!&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A closer look at Group Health Cooperative</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/6/26/747324/-A-closer-look-at-Group-Health-Cooperative</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In the interest of better understanding Group Health Cooperative (GHC), I&#x26;#8217;ve contacted the &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://centerforhealthstudies.org&#x22;&#x3E;Group Health Center for Health Studies&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to ask about their co-op&#x26;#8217;s experience and what it tells them about the prospects for cooperative-based health care reform.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I first spoke with executive director &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://centerforhealthstudies.org/faculty/profiles/larson.aspx&#x22;&#x3E;Dr. Eric Larson&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, who has been the center&#x26;#8217;s executive director since 2002. Larson referred me to senior researcher &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://centerforhealthstudies.org/faculty/profiles/vonkorff.aspx&#x22;&#x3E;Michael Von Korff&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, who has been studying health services and economics with the center since 1983.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>My Letter to Senator Cantwell on the Public Option</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/6/23/745932/-My-Letter-to-Senator-Cantwell-on-the-Public-Option</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m a constituent of Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA). &#x26;nbsp;This morning I heard an excerpt from an interview with her on my local NPR station, in which she opines how she thinks a co-op is a good idea and since we have Group Health here in Seattle that &#x22;it&#x27;s not exactly an untested model.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;Be that as it may, I sent her an email through her website today.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Health Cooperatives Can&#x27;t Work?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/6/21/745388/-Health-Cooperatives-Can-t-Work</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The &#x22;co-op plan&#x22; for health care reform is barely a week old as a concept, and only days old as a draft proposal by the Senate Finance Committee, but already &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://mediamatters.org/research/200906190024&#x22;&#x3E;many have declared that it can&#x27;t work&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. These claims have often involved personal attacks against anyone who supports the idea.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
