<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;The American Conservative&#x3C;/em&#x3E; is a magazine for people who want to pretend that conservatives being &#x3C;em&#x3E;able&#x3C;/em&#x3E; to read equates to conservatives being &#x3C;em&#x3E;intelligent&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. Founded in 2002, during a fit of Patriot-Actism, I can only imagine, the bi-monthly magazine covers all the opinions you would imagine a magazine started by Pat Buchanan would. Earlier Thursday, whoever was manning the social media posted a new article from the magazine positing that by calling Donald Trump &#x201C;alt right&#x201D; his critics were &#x201C;empowering Real Racists.&#x201D; The article was written by Jack Hunter&#x2014;someone who worked for Rand Paul&#x2014;who has written similar screeds with headlines like &#x201C;What if Russiagate is the New WMDs?&#x201D; and &#x201C;Rand Paul Against the World.&#x201D; If you want something to warm your heart you can read an article by him titled &#x201C;Our Newfound Sympathy for Addicts,&#x201D; or &#x201C;Why Conservatives Ignored the Ferguson Report.&#x201D; The American Conservative social media outlet sent out this tweet.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dk-editor-embed center-block&#x22; data-twitter-content=&#x27;&#x26;amp;lt;blockquote class=&#x22;twitter-tweet&#x22; data-lang=&#x22;en&#x22;&#x26;amp;gt;&#x26;amp;lt;p lang=&#x22;en&#x22; dir=&#x22;ltr&#x22;&#x26;amp;gt;There are people with far, far more offensive racial views than Donald Trump or Tucker Carlson. If Trump and Tucker are &#x22;racists,&#x22; then what do you call those other people? &#x26;amp;lt;a href=&#x22;https://t.co/8dNSOT1qDE&#x22;&#x26;amp;gt;https://t.co/8dNSOT1qDE&#x26;amp;lt;/a&#x26;amp;gt;&#x26;amp;lt;/p&#x26;amp;gt;&#x2014; The American Conservative (@amconmag) &#x26;amp;lt;a href=&#x22;https://twitter.com/amconmag/status/1035230671256444928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&#x22;&#x26;amp;gt;August 30, 2018&#x26;amp;lt;/a&#x26;amp;gt;&#x26;amp;lt;/blockquote&#x26;amp;gt;&#x27;&#x3E;&#x3C;div class=&#x22;remove-embed-content&#x22;&#x3E;x&#x3C;/div&#x3E;&#x3C;blockquote class=&#x22;twitter-tweet&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;There are people with far, far more offensive racial views than Donald Trump or Tucker Carlson. &#x3C;p&#x3E;Good point! And by &#x201C;good point&#x201D; I mean &#x201C;Not a good point!&#x201D; Well, I was not the only one to have the kind of reaction you reading this right now are having. The responses were fast, awesome, and rushed in like a firehose.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>We Have Met the Enemy and He&#x27;s a Large Empty Space: Anti-Political Correctness for Fun &#x26;amp; Profit</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/4/16/1516132/-We-Have-Met-the-Enemy-and-He-s-a-Large-Empty-Space-Anti-Political-Correctness-and-Fun-Profit</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you Google&#xA0;&#x201C;Political Correctness,&#x201D; &#x201C;Politically Incorrect,&#x201D; &#x201C;Anti-PC,&#x201D; and &#x201C;Anti-Political Correctness,&#x201D; &#x201C;Pro-Political Correctness,&#x201D; and then refine your search to just images, one striking thing is that there are virtually NO &#x201C;politically correct&#x201D; images. I basically found one (above), which is&#xA0;from &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://goodmenproject.com/tag/duke/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Duke&#x27;s &#x22;Good Men&#x22; project&#x3C;/a&#x3E; from 2014. Granted there was one bumper sticker that simply said &#x201C;Political Correctness&#x201D; and nothing else, but since it was from a right wing site, I suspect it was actually anti-PC; it just wasn&#x2019;t very clear. I am also not including redneck jokes, which one or two places seemed to find a form of PC speech. Part of the difficulty is that so many of these jokes are actually generated within the redneck community, although there is resentment when outsiders use them, which forms an odd parallel to the use of the n-word in certain subsets of the African American community.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;In contrast to this one ad, there are literally hundred of Anti-PC and &#x201C;Politically Incorrect&#x201D; images. Virtually no one (with the exception above) is reaching out to the public with Pro-PC messages. &#xA0;This was borne out by a brief survey of&#xA0; books&#xA0; on Amazon. I employed the words &#x201C;Political Correctness&#x201D; in the search field for &#x201C;Books,&#x201D; then I tried to analyze which were pro or anti-PC I came up with the following (out of 108 results, which were the first nine pages of results):&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Pro-PC:&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; &#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; 1 (maybe 2)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Anti-PC: &#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; 53&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Books on the debate (both sides):&#xA0; &#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;3&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Histories or speculations on the future of PC:&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; 6&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; Not relevant (novels, or just not about PC)&#xA0; &#xA0; &#xA0; &#xA0; &#xA0; &#xA0; 45&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The one unequivocally Pro-PC book in those nine pages of results was John Wilson&#x2019;s &#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/Myth-Political-Correctness-Conservative-Education-ebook/dp/B00HG1LBRM/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&#x26;amp;ie=UTF8&#x26;amp;qid=1460834106&#x26;amp;sr=1-1&#x26;amp;keywords=myth+political+correctness&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;The Myth of Political Correctness&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. &#xA0;Another one I might be able to add is Verna A. Myers, &#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/What-Say-Wrong-Thing-Culturally-ebook/dp/B00NYCE44O/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&#x26;amp;ie=UTF8&#x26;amp;qid=1460834211&#x26;amp;sr=1-1&#x26;amp;keywords=myers+what+if+I+say&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;What If I Say the Wrong Thing&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#xA0;25 Habits for Culturally Effective&#x3C;/em&#x3E; &#x3C;em&#x3E;People &#x3C;/em&#x3E;(it was #108), although this is more of a how to book than about PC as such.&#xA0; If anything I have probably underestimated the number of Anti-PC books, simply because I ignored a few books that had no obvious bias, but were probably Anti-PC (for example a collection of Charles Krautzhammer&#x2019;s essays&#x2014;I have little doubt at least one of those essays could be characterized as Anti-PC).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;If Political Correctness adherents are&#xA0;all about suppressing speech, they certainly are doing a lousy job.&#xA0;&#xA0;In fact, what both these admittedly casual, subjective surveys seem to demonstrate is how easily Anti-PC speech can be commodified and turned into a profit. At least one book (which I admittedly have not read), seems to pick up this idea and make it explicit, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/How-Make-Money-Online-Correctness-ebook/dp/B0120OZ47W&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;Jack Hunter&#x27;s How to Make Money Online&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;: Use and Abuse of Political Correctness (for Fun and Profit)&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, which has the following description on Amazon:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;If you ever tried to make money online then you know that the biggest problem is always how to get traffic. This book tackles subject of traffic from a unique perspective. In it you will also find numerous suggestions as to how to monetize niches you perhaps never even thought of monetizing. Political correctness is boring and not very profitable. Be a rebel. Think different. Be cool. Make money, get unprecedented amounts of traffic and be politically incorrect. And above all, have fun doing it.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hunter has learned (possibly by doing what I just did), that Anti-PC is cool, rebellious, and sells. &#xA0;Moreover, as you get to hurt other people in a wide range of ways and feel &#xA0;superior while doing&#xA0;it, it is creative, fun, and self-affirming.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Rand Paul&#x27;s Ex-Aide Jack Hunter: &#x22;Not a Racist&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/11/27/1258797/-Rand-Paul-s-Ex-Aide-Jack-Hunter-Not-a-Racist</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Jack Hunter, the racist former aide to both Ron and Rand Paul, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2013/11/confessions-of-right-wing-shock-jock-jack-hunter-100261.html&#x22;&#x3E;now says&#x3C;/a&#x3E; he wasn&#x27;t really a racist. He just played one on the radio. Dude&#x27;s gotta make a living, you see. He claims too, that Ron Paul was shocked, shocked, to learn that the newsletters that were published under his name were filled with racist material for years and years. &#x26;nbsp;Suffice to say, there is much self-serving, revisionist material in Hunter&#x27;s &#x3C;em&#x3E;Politico&#x3C;/em&#x3E; article, which comes at a time when Rand Paul is actively testing the waters for a presidential run, and Ron Paul is busy building his new career as, among other things a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.talk2action.org/story/2013/7/9/03849/39753/Front_Page/A_Talk_to_Action_Anthology_on_Nullification_and_Secession_updated_&#x22;&#x3E;homeschooling text book entrepreneur&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I want to highlight just one point out of Hunter&#x27;s rich stew of attempted political redemption. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Oh noes! Rand Paul loses his Southern Avenger!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/7/22/1225703/-Oh-noes-Rand-Paul-loses-his-Southern-Avenger</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;No, not THAT Southern Avenger. &#x26;nbsp;This one: &#x26;nbsp;Jack Hunter. &#x26;nbsp;From &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/07/22/rand-paul-aide-known-as-southern-avenger-steps-down/&#x22;&#x3E;CNN&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Hunter had made a number of provocative comments about race and was also a member of the pro-Southern independence group League of the South before he started working for Paul.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hunter had previously written articles praising John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Abraham Lincoln, and acknowledged that he toasts Booth&#x27;s birthday annually.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Supposedly the Southern Avenger&#x27;s website is down, but thanks to Mr. Peabody and his Wayback Machine, you can read &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://web.archive.org/web/20071104085454/http://www.southernavenger.com/82/?form_58.userid=4&#x26;amp;form_58.replyids=301&#x22;&#x3E;this&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in all it&#x27;s glory:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;The Sad State of Confederate Memorial Day &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
by The Southern Avenger&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
11 May 2006&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Wednesday May 10 was Confederate Memorial Day in South Carolina. The date was chosen to mark the death of General Thomas Jackson, but with apologies to Stonewall, I personally like to remember it as the birthday of John Wilkes Booth, the man who gave Abe Lincoln his just desserts.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Other great hits include:

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And my personal favorite,&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://web.archive.org/web/20071104065312/http://www.southernavenger.com/82/?form_58.userid=4&#x26;amp;form_58.replyids=393&#x22;&#x3E;The Mexification of America&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in Rant-o-rama:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;What is at stake is the American nation itself, or at least as we now know it. A quarter century ago, John Mellencamp could sing a song about two American kids sucking on chili dogs outside the Tastee Freeze that we could all recognize. Today not only is the burrito replacing the chili dog, but the Tastee Freeze is gone, the kids aren&#x27;t even American and they sure as hell don&#x27;t own any John Cougar records. For God&#x27;s sake, let us be done with all the suicidal excuses and start dealing with the brutal reality at hand, or Americans can say &#x22;adios&#x22; to the country they love forever.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
No John Mellencamp records? &#x26;nbsp;T-R-E-A-S-O-N!!!!
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Restore your true American-ness with the following video:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Crossposted from &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.hillbillyreport.org/diary/4688/some-questions-for-rand-paul-and-a-needed-disowning&#x22;&#x3E;Hillbilly Report.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Mad Doctor with the twisty curls who would be President is on record with some advice for newly announced Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes. And while his advice seems to be political in nature it could hint at something pretty troubling considering his company and some of his past statements. Then again, it might show us just exactly why the company he keeps means that birds of a feather flock together even as Rand Paul continues to contradict himself.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Rand Paul wades into 2016 ... and 2016 wades into Rand Paul</title>

&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-cap&#x22;&#x3E;&#x22;To be honest, I&#x27;d rather be droning on about drones.&#x22;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Rand Paul has made no secret about his 2016 ambitions, and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/309767-rand-paul-mocks-rick-perry-over-debate-flub-?utm_source=buffer&#x26;amp;utm_campaign=Buffer&#x26;amp;utm_content=buffere2a12&#x26;amp;utm_medium=twitter#ixzz2YYKi4bbL&#x22;&#x3E;last night&#x3C;/a&#x3E; on Fox he aimed his fire at Rick Perry&#x27;s famous &#x22;oops&#x22; moment:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x201C;If Gov. Perry decides to run for president, I think there would be three good reasons why he could be president: Texas is a big successful state, he&#x2019;s a long term governor and&#x2026; I can&#x2019;t remember the other one,&#x201D; Paul quipped.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Perry spent his day yesterday &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/07/08/1222056/-Oops-there-it-is-Perry-won-t-run-in-2014-but-hints-at-interest-in-2016-bid&#x22;&#x3E;announcing&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that he won&#x27;t run for a fourth term as governor of Texas in 2014 ... but he made it crystal clear that he plans to join Paul in mounting a 2016 presidential campaign. Perry hasn&#x27;t taken any shots at potential rivals yet, but Paul is already &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.salon.com/2013/07/09/rand_pauls_team_has_another_white_supremacist/&#x22;&#x3E;taking incoming fire&#x3C;/a&#x3E; from the conservative side for hiring a pro-secession neo-Confederate to ghost write &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/B007HW674W&#x22;&#x3E;his book&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and serve as an aide on his U.S. Senate staff:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Jack Hunter, who co-authored Rand Paul&#x2019;s 2011 book and now directs new media for the Kentucky senator, has a past alter ego as the &#x201C;Southern Avenger,&#x201D; a provocative radio personality known for wearing a luchador mask emblazoned with the Confederate flag and for making outrageous comments about race and Southern secession, Alana Goodman of the Washington Free Beacon reveals today.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;As the arguably white nationalist Southern Avenger, Hunter praised the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, saying he &#x201C;raise[s] a personal toast every May 10 to celebrate John Wilkes Booth&#x2019;s birthday,&#x201D; compared Lincoln to Saddam Hussein, and suggested the great American president would have had a homosexual relationship with Adolf Hitler, had the two ever met. He also advocated against Hispanic immigration and in favor of white pride, warning that a &#x201C;non-white majority America would simply cease to be America.&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Hunter (thankfully, not our Hunter!) carries with him a treasure trove of extremist statements, and it&#x27;s pretty clear that The Free Beacon hopes that Paul&#x27;s decision to hire him will define Paul&#x27;s campaign before Paul gets a chance to define himself. The question I have is whether being branded as a conservative who tolerates neo-Confederate racism will be an asset or liability. In today&#x27;s Republican Party, the answer isn&#x27;t entirely clear.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;update&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a name=&#x22;20130709113028&#x22; href=&#x22;/story/2013/07/09/1222312/-Rand-Paul-wades-into-2016-and-2016-wades-into-Rand-Paul#20130709113028&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;11:30 AM PT&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/span&#x3E; Or maybe it is clear:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
