<title>Huckabee&#x27;s done. Former book co-author John Perry accused of child molestation</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/6/14/1393141/-Huckabee-s-done</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Didn&#x27;t see this mentioned here elsewhere so I figured, why not?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Buzzfeed has the story:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/co-author-of-mike-huckabee-books-was-accused-of-child-molest?utm_term=.ia4XmbWNm#.ncLwPvWEe&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.buzzfeed.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;John Perry, a prolific author who co-wrote two books with former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and co-wrote one with Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, was accused of child molestation in two separate lawsuits, BuzzFeed News has found.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A 2012 police investigation of Perry&#x2019;s alleged offenses found that &#x201C;the allegations of sexual battery were sustained&#x201D; but that the statute of limitations had expired.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Perry co-wrote Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That&#x2019;s Bringing Common Sense Back to America about Huckabee&#x2019;s 2008 presidential campaign. He also did research and writing for Huckabee&#x2019;s 2007 book Character Is the Issue, a memoir of his early time as governor. Perry also co-wrote So Help Me God, Moore&#x2019;s autobiographical account of fighting to keep a monument to the Ten Commandments at Alabama&#x2019;s Supreme Court.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
These people have quite a racket going on, don&#x27;t they?

<title>Huckabee Co-Author Accused of Child Molestation</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/6/12/1392741/-Huckabee-Co-Author-Accused-of-Child-Molestation</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Right-Wing &#x22;Christian&#x22; moralists may finally have jumped the shark on the whole &#x22;family values&#x22; argument over the issue of child molestation as former Governor, Author, and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has publicly defended the reprehensible Duggar family for their efforts to protect and cover-up child molestation in their family. Now, a stunning new revelation &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/co-author-of-mike-huckabee-books-was-accused-of-child-molest#.gj7EmvDEjn&#x22;&#x3E;being reported by Buzz-Feed&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that Mike Huckabee&#x27;s co-author of his ironically titled &#x3C;em&#x3E;Character Makes a Difference&#x3C;/em&#x3E; has been &#x22;accused of child molestation in two legal cases.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;John Perry, who also co-authored a book by right-wing Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, was accused of molesting a child by his ex-wife during divorce proceedings, and the subsequent police investigation of those charges found that:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x201C;the allegations of sexual battery were sustained&#x201D; but that the statute of limitations had expired.&#x22;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Buzzfeed contacted the Nashville Police Department who confirmed through a spokesperson that the victim was a child between the ages of 11 and 14. In a separate suit brought by a former member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church where Perry attended, the accuser, Austin Davis, claims the church covered up Perry&#x27;s molestation and &#x22;launched a campaign to silence and harass Davis.&#x22;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I encourage everyone to read the full story at the Buzzfeed link above. This new revelation is just one more in a string of damaging allegations against Huckabee and his right-wing child molestation apologists like Megyn Kelly at Fox News. One thing Mike Huckabee did get right is the title of his book, because when it comes to committing, defending, excusing, or covering up such a heinous act as child molestation, he&#x27;s dead on, Character really DOES matter.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

Man, this guy sure pals around with some &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/co-author-of-mike-huckabee-books-was-accused-of-child-molest#.tpJXor3w7&#x22;&#x3E;unsavory characters:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A 2012 police investigation of Perry&#x2019;s alleged offenses found that &#x201C;the allegations of sexual battery were sustained&#x201D; but that the statute of limitations had expired.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
John Perry and Mike Huckabee penned two books together and he&#x27;s written for another of notable conservatives like Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The victim was a young member of his church:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x201C;The alleged sexual battery was reported to have occurred when the victim was between the ages of 11 and 14,&#x201D; said Nashville police department spokesperson Don Aaron in a statement to BuzzFeed News.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
It appears the allegations surfaced before they worked together on a book about Huckabee&#x27;s role in the 2008 Republican primaries: &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;In Davis&#x2019;s court case, he presents what he alleges are minutes from Covenant Presbyterian Church meetings that show Perry resigning from the church&#x2019;s diaconate in 2008, and minutes from 2010 showing Perry was excommunicated from the church because he &#x201C;has confessed to committing heinous and repetitive sin [&#x2026;] and has not shown evidence of repentance.&#x201D; The minutes appear to have been introduced as evidence in one of Davis&#x2019; lawsuits against the church. The church does not appear to have objected to the introduction of the minutes or contested their authenticity.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
In his 2008 book &#x3C;em&#x3E;Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That&#x2019;s Bringing Common Sense Back to America&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, Perry and Huckabee crowed about &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.ontheissues.org/2012/Mike_Huckabee_Government_Reform.htm&#x22;&#x3E;personal responsibility:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Quite simply, the best government, the simplest, the least expensive, the most local and accountable, the least intrusive, the most efficient, the least threatening, is self-government.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This ideal is simple--each individual would govern himself or herself by a moral code of respect and honor essentially based on the premise of the Golden Rule: &#x22;Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.&#x22; This isn&#x27;t just a Christian principle, but a universal one. It is sheer folly to separate personal liberty from personal responsibility. Period.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
As sophisticated and enlightened as it may sound to say, &#x22;Government shouldn&#x27;t tell people what they can do,&#x22; government is forced into that position when people fail to govern themselves. Does anyone think &#x22;government&#x22; is wrong to &#x22;intrude&#x22; on the liberties of the burglar by arresting him? In fact, we insist on it. But had the burglar governed himself, the entire expensive process of adjudicating him would have been unnecessary.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Source: Do The Right Thing, by Mike Huckabee, p. 22-23 , Nov 18, 2008&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Time will tell if Perry takes full responsibility for his actions.

<title>Huckabee - the perverts&#x27; Candidate</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/6/11/1392355/-Huckabee-the-perverts-Candidate</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;ll say this for Mike. At least he is consistent.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Some years ago, as governor of Arkansas, he released a sexual predator, Wayne Dumont, who was in prison for raping an underaged cheerleader. After his parole, Dumont went on to rape and murder another woman.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;One can only imagine how the GOP would have reacted if another former Ark. Governor would have been treated if such news came out during his presidential campaign. I guess being on staff for Faux Gnus hath its privileges.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;As for committing Duggary, the Huckster decided that even though Josh confessed to sexually abusing four. . . FOUR of his sisters - not one, not two, not three, but &#x3C;strong&#x3E;FOUR&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; Of his sisters, plus a non-family girl, the confession should not be held against him because. Oh, and his intentions were pure, plus gawd forgave him because of his Christian sole. Soul. Whatever.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;If that were not enough to shitcan his presidential campaign, the Huckster love of pedophiles, sexual abusers and child rapists was confirmed again.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;From &#x3C;em&#x3E;BuzzFeed&#x3C;/em&#x3E;:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A 2012 police investigation of Perry&#x2019;s alleged offenses found that &#x201C;the allegations of sexual battery were sustained&#x201D; but that the statute of limitations had expired.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a sworn affidavit submitted during divorce proceedings, Perry&#x2019;s ex-wife attests that &#x201C;I filed for divorce as a result of Mr. Perry&#x2019;s inappropriate marital conduct, to which he admitted to in his Response to Interrogatories numbers 1 and 2.&#x201D; Throughout the court documents, &#x201C;inappropriate marital conduct&#x201D; appears to be a euphemism for the alleged molestation.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Another filing, submitted by Perry&#x2019;s ex-wife&#x2019;s attorney earlier in the same proceedings, refers to Perry&#x2019;s &#x201C;admitted sexual abuse&#x201D; of a minor child. Perry&#x2019;s response to that filing &#x2014; also submitted prior to his ex-wife&#x2019;s affidavit &#x2014; does not deny the abuse, or that Perry admitted it. Instead, Perry claims that &#x201C;there was never any testimony or other evidence of any kind presented&#x201D; to the court, &#x201C;or any orders or findings of fact [&#x2026;] regarding any alleged sexual abuse of any minor child relative to the parties&#x2019; divorce or any other legal proceeding &#x2026;&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Republicans are demanding an apology for the same reason they are offering Amendments about Czars -- They have nothing to offer in the Health Care Debate!

<title>Coup Talk</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/30/788315/-Coup-Talk</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yesterday, the conservative, often controversial (and even more often debunked) media organization &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.newsmax.com/index.html&#x22;&#x3E;Newsmax&#x3C;/a&#x3E; published an article by John L. Perry that describes how a coup d&#x27;etat against President Obama might occur. Newsmax quickly disowned the article, removing it from its Website and issuing a statement (per &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://mediamatters.org&#x22;&#x3E;Media Matters&#x3C;/a&#x3E;):
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a blog posting to Newsmax John Perry wrote about a coup scenario involving the U.S. military. He clearly stated that he was not advocating such a scenario but simply describing one.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;After several reader complaints, Newsmax wanted to insure that this article was not misinterpreted. It was removed after a short period after being posted.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Newsmax strongly believes in the principles of Constitutional government and would never advocate or insinuate any suggestion of an activity that would undermine our democracy or democratic institutions.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Mr. Perry served as a political appointee in the Carter administration in HUD and FEMA. He has no official relationship with Newsmax other than as an unpaid blogger.

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The piece itself is an amazing new low even for the depths of today&#x27;s conservative media. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s apparently so revoltingly beyond the pale that after Media Matters highlighted the piece, Newsmax saw fit to quietly take it down without fanfare. &#x26;nbsp;Links to the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.newsmax.com/john_perry/obama_military_coup/2009/09/29/266012.html&#x22;&#x3E;piece itself&#x3C;/a&#x3E; now take the reader directly to the Newsmax homepage, and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.newsmax.com/john_perry/&#x22;&#x3E;John Perry&#x27;s page&#x3C;/a&#x3E; has been scrubbed of the document. &#x26;nbsp;Fortunately, Media Matters has captured the distilled essence of wingnut authoritarian fantasy for perpetuity in a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/pdf/newsmax-20090929-perry_coup.pdf&#x22;&#x3E;PDF&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>NRO, others: Stop with divisive language about Down syndrome</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/1/581729/-NRO-others-Stop-with-divisive-language-about-Down-syndrome</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Kathryn Jean Lopez, a National Review Online editor, just published an op-ed that with the headline &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Don&#x27;t Be Down on Palin&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The obvious play on words was enough to make my stomach lurch, but I kept reading. Lopez praised Palin for being anti-choice and quoted &#x22;facts&#x22; (read: not true) about prenatal testing, but essentially said that Sarah Palin is a good choice for VP because she has a child with disabilities.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;But if the youngest life she and her husband care for can wake up a nation that&#x26;rsquo;s blind to the eugenics in its midst, a routine part of medicine today, she and John McCain would be offering human rights and dignity a great, honorable service. In contrast to Barack Obama, who would let the survivors of botched abortion attempts be killed, the Palins could serve as a great clarifier for voters this fall &#x26;mdash; and an education.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;1&#x22;&#x3E; It&#x27;s not good politics to use disabled children for your own political agenda in your quest to overturn Roe.&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;2&#x22;&#x3E; It&#x27;s Down syndrome, not Down Syndrome or Down&#x27;s Syndrome or &#x22;a Down&#x27;s child&#x22;. (See &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://elliotsexpeditions.blogspot.com/2008/08/awareness.html&#x22;&#x3E;this blog&#x3C;/a&#x3E; for proper usage of the term, as well as myths about Down syndrome.)&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
