&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is getting out of control. &#x26;nbsp;I am surprised there are no diaries on this subject so I wanted to get this out there.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Inciting Extremist Activity&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/2/22/1067275/--Inciting-Extremist-Activity</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;As someone who supported American action in Afghanistan, it has become time for me to render a mea culpa - I was wrong. The people in charge of the action are simply not competent. Consider the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;Koran burning incident in Bagram&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;The holy books and texts came from the library in the detention center in Parwan, where Americans house people suspected of being insurgents, including many of those captured during night raids. A military official said detainees had been using the books to communicate with each other and &#x3C;b&#x3E;potentially incite extremist activity&#x3C;/b&#x3E;.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;(Emphasis supplied.) It seems that for incitement of extremist activity, Americans are the champions. How in Gawd&#x27;s name could this have happened? And this is not an &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16534289&#x22;&#x3E;isolated incident&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. The NATO commander General James Allen said:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x201C;We are thoroughly investigating the incident, and we are taking steps to ensure this does not ever happen again. I assure you ... I promise you ... this was NOT intentional in any way.&#x201D;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;How could it have happened even once? Incompetence is the only answer and frankly, I have no confidence that more &#x22;incitement of extemist activity&#x22; will not occur again.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;First, do no harm. The American action in Afghanistan seems incapable of that. It should end.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>This Just In: Terry Jones is still an a$$hole.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/4/20/968712/-This-Just-In-Terry-Jones-is-still-an-a-hole</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;You&#x27;ll all recall how Jones fed his craving for media exposure by threatening to burn a Koran.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;And then, how he fed his raving for media exposure by burning a Koran?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;And then, how that act set of furious protests throughout the Pan-Islamic world, managing to result in fatalities?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;He has another charming idea: An armed protest outside a large mosque in Michigan.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;What could possibly go wrong? I mean, dull-witted, Islamaphobic bigots, armed and provoking people who simply try to attend a service or prayers?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Quran Burning Touched Dry Tinder of Afghan Misery</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/4/4/963411/-Quran-Burning-Touched-Dry-Tinder-of-Afghan-Misery</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The fact missing from the remarkably &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/florida-pastor-terry-joness-koran-burning-has-far-reaching-effect/2011/04/02/AFpiFoQC_story.html?hpid=z3&#x22;&#x3E;shallow reporting&#x3C;/a&#x3E; on the deadly riots which killed 8 UN workers after a preacher&#x27;s &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.registan.net/index.php/2011/04/02/violence-against-aid-workers-in-afghanistan/&#x22;&#x3E;burning of a Quran in Florida&#x3C;/a&#x3E; is that the riots which ensued are the explosion of long-pent up frustrations and economic misery. The crowds of men who marched and were then &#x3C;a href=&#x22;After%20the%20US%20has%20spent%2040%20times%20Afghanistan&#x27;s%20yearly%20GNP%20on%20military%20operations,%20with%20a%20relative%20trickle%20of%20mostly%20misdirected%20civilian%20assistance,%20the%20UN%20estimates%20nearly%2040%%20of%20Afghan%20children%20are%20clinically%20malnourished,%20along%20with%2035%%20of%20the%20general%20population,%20and%20malnutrition%20wards%20hold%20children%20with%20their%20ribcages%20showing%20across%20the%20country.&#x22;&#x3E;infiltrated with insurgents&#x3C;/a&#x3E; who incited killing UN staff may be made up of the same desperate men, with too much time and too little work, who gather by the thousands in the city&#x27;s squares hoping to land a day of work at $5 a day.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Afghans are remarkably practical people, not ordinarily given to ideological extremism which has been forced on them in the past. But with the dignity of work denied, unemployment at 50% and as high as 80% in some provinces, with their children literally starving and picking through trash for food after nine years of occupation, and now an upsurge in reported atrocities and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/23/us-soldier-admits-killing-afghans&#x22;&#x3E;deliberate murder of civilians&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, no one should be surprised that when the last shred of identity is desecrated, the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://progressive.org/kelly121010.html&#x22;&#x3E;the tinder sparks&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a f&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.archive.org/details/AfghanPeacePlan&#x22;&#x3E;act-finding trip to Kabul in 2009&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, my colleague and I filmed and interviewed men at the squares where they gathered hoping for day labor. At times the atmosphere got tense. &#x22;You guys always come and take our pictures and promise jobs but nothing ever happens!&#x22; was one rare moment when we thought we were in for a beating. When you haven&#x27;t had a day&#x27;s work in two weeks, haven&#x27;t eaten in two days, and your kids are hungry, you too might be on a short fuse, maybe a little crazy.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Since then, the occupation has gone on two more years, and many more instances of brutish behavior against civilians, which every Afghan knows about, have taken place. These include the recently released &#x22;trophy&#x22; photos, the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://warisacrime.org/content/was-killing-nine-afghan-boys-deliberate-call-gun-camera-video&#x22;&#x3E;killing of nine boys gathering firewood&#x3C;/a&#x3E; by an American attack helicopter whose crew could not have mistaken their identity given the range and the gunship&#x27;s superior optics, and the finger-cutting psycho soldiers who killed civilians for sport.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;After the US has spent 40 times Afghanistan&#x27;s yearly GNP on military operations, with a relative trickle of mostly misdirected civilian assistance, the UN estimates nearly 40% of Afghan children are clinically malnourished, along with 35% of the general population, and malnutrition wards hold children with their ribcages showing across the country.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;To make matters worse, Afghans see the shiny SUVs favored by the foreign NGOs and know that the cost of one would feed an entire village for a year. They see the gaudily-colored &#x22;narco-mansions&#x22; which result from the US choice to work through drug lords and warlords to insure &#x22;security.&#x22; The problem is not that help cannot be delivered to rebuild the country&#x27;s still non-existent water, sewer and powerline infrastructure, in the form of tools, technical assistance, and wages. The problem is a deliberate choice has been made to spend reconstruction dollars on showcase projects which make foreign contractors rich.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Nothing forgives the killing of the UN workers, and it should not be forgotten that many Afghan also died in the violence. But no one should be surprised. Take away everything from a man, let him watch his children pick through trash or beg for food he cannot buy, add in that the insurgency can afford to pay fighters $10 a day, a dream wage here, and you have created the elements of the &#x22;perfect storm.&#x22; The utter futility of military operations is now borne out by the revelation that much of the Taliban&#x27;s financing comes from protection payments being made to insurgents by Pentagon contractors, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/21/eveningnews/main6604606.shtml&#x22;&#x3E;with the Pentagon&#x27;s full knowledge&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, to allow military supply convoys to cross the countryside.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It need not have been the Quran burning which touched it off. It could have been anything. The deadly riots are the symptom, not the disease.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;How to fulfill the promise of a leg-up in building their country, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/116512/ann_jones_on_the_road_to_taliban_land&#x22;&#x3E;which so many Afghans looked forward to&#x3C;/a&#x3E; after the widely-approved overthrow of the Taliban? First, start getting troops out. Afghanistan is a country not kind to visitors who have crossed the line into being viewed as exploitative invaders. What is remarkable is that, up until 2006, the country was relatively peaceful and even hospitable to those who had freed them from the Pakistan-based cadres trained and financed by the Pakistani ISI intelligence service, which is to say, partly financed by the CIA. It was part of the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/Invisible-History-Afghanistans-Untold-Story/dp/0872864944&#x22;&#x3E;&#x22;Great Game,&#x22;&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in which both Washington and Islamabad moved pieces on the board, including the financing of the mujihadeen who fought with Al Qaeda.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The presence of US forces and the never-ending stream of atrocities and civilian casualties has turned into a recruiting tool for the insurgency for young men who, have no job, no prospects, and no hope for the future. &#x26;nbsp;The tragedy is most Afghans still despise the Taliban, and see themselves as caught between two evils.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Next, focus on indigenous, Afghan-led non-governmental organizations, not associated with the Karzai government, which have the support of communities and hire Afghans to do the work of clearing bombed-out canals, irrigation systems, improve the dirt roads, and build sanitation in a country where 2/3 of people still do not have access to clean water, a major cause of one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world, and the highest maternal mortality rate. Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places in the world to have a baby. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;This could be paid for by diverting just 10% of what the US spends on military operations, an astounding $100 billion per year, in to targeted assistance. The money saved from this counterproductive war is money for our own economy.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.fpif.org/articles/interview_with_malalai_joya&#x22;&#x3E;Malalai Joya,&#x3C;/a&#x3E; the former member of the Afghan Parliament who was ejected when she called many of her colleagues &#x22;criminals&#x22; estimates: &#x22;20 million people out of the roughly 30 million population of Afghanistan are living below the poverty line, and the rate of unemployment is over 50%.&#x22; Joya calls unequivocally for US troops to leave Afghanistan, saying its policies have not helped women and that a relatively small percentage of girls going to school is undone by the war&#x27;s strengthening of the Taliban and the most mysogynistic of warlord elements.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;It&#x27;s not that Congress doesn&#x27;t know about what works in Afghanistan or how to do it cheaply. It has been reviewed and talked about over and over, yet simple, effective programs that are corruption-free continue to lack funding which is pennies compared to the $10 billion a month being dumped into the war machine.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; An aide to Congressman Mike Honda, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus&#x27;s Afghanistan Taskforce, is &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://sheridanworks.com/blog/2011/01/06/so-painfully-obvious-best-and-worst-solutions-for-afghanistan&#x22;&#x3E;Michael Shanks&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, one of the most knowledgeable voices on Capitol Hill on this issue, whose voice is never heeded by the 400 or so &#x22;colleagues.&#x22; Shanks tells The Nation:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x22;The only things working in Afghanistan right now in terms of development are organizations like Aga Kahn Foundation, ICRC, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, etc. Aga Kahn travels with no security whatsoever. Their development work has no security detail and the only way they go to the site is if the community supports them. This is how I travel too; I only travel if the community supports me. That&#x2019;s my security.&#x22;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The shortsightedness in aid policy is fully visible in some more remote provinces where, if there is stability, they are forgotten. The Afghan &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://tolonews.com/en/wazhma-frogh/2151-why-not-incentive-for-peace-in-daikundi&#x22;&#x3E;news agency TOLO&#x3C;/a&#x3E; reports:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;While on my way to Department of Women&#x27;s Affairs, saw small children around age of 4 or 5 stuck in the snow and mud while another child of 7 or 8 was pulling him/her out of the mud. This is the main road of the Nilli city, which is the centre. But it shouldn&#x27;t be called a road, it&#x27;s only a direction...
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;While millions of dollars are poured into provinces plagued with violence and conflict, why don&#x27;t provinces like Daikundi get attention to prove itself a real model for development and reducing poverty? And the Afghanistan Peace and Re-integration Programme with millions of dollars from foreign aid provides incentives of war to insurgents, is another certification of a policy that would eventually drive the young men from Daikundi to join insurgents and militants fighting in its surrounding provinces of Uruzgan, Ghazni, Zabul and Helmand.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;If the international aid is another parallel to counter-insurgency, then why to even name it international development aid&#x22;, said a couple of young graduates who returned to Daikundi after completing their graduation at Kabul University. They said, &#x22;When we returned back, we used to encourage young boys and girls to study and get educated. But having been lost in poverty, we forget about education. It&#x27;s only about a struggle to be able to remain alive each day, what happens tomorrow, we don&#x27;t know.&#x22;&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The article quotes a nine year old:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x22;It would be the luckiest days of the week, if we have our boiled potatoes, and each of us getting one of them&#x22;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The politicians who give the Pentagon free reign to deal with the insurgency have come perilously close to botching it &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/edward-corcoran/tipping-afghanistan_b_836663.html&#x22;&#x3E;to the point of no return&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, to the true peril of American security interests. The problem is, when you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A discontented and angry populace is where extremism thrives. I would venture to say, had those thousands upon thousands of hungry unemployed men had dignified work, building sewer lines etc. so one would not have to smell the stench of open waste, their children eating well, the idiotic burning of the Quran might have sparked outrage, but it would not have come to this. &#x26;nbsp;People with work have better things to do. The tinder was dry as bone. The burning of the holy was only the spark.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;My heart goes out to those aid workers who were killed undoubtedly doing what they loved, and to all the Afghans killed in this increasingly dirty conflict. &#x26;nbsp;What congressional negligence is now bringing to mind is the early stage of a humiliating and hasty withdrawal from a certain Southeast Asian country. &#x26;nbsp;When the mind of the crowd turns against you, even those who would like to help you can do nothing.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://jobsforafghans.org/tierney.html&#x22;&#x3E;CALL ON YOUR CONGRESSMEMBERS TO SPONSOR THE &#x22;TROOPS OUT; DIVERT 10 PERCENT TO TARGETED CIVILIAN ASSISTANCE, OUT OF AFGHANISTAN&#x22; RESOLUTION&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.contactingthecongress.org/&#x22;&#x3E;CONTACT CONGRESS&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Men hoping for work, any kind of work, who gather by the tens of thousands in Kabul&#x27;s city squares. This is one&#x27;s best bet.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;

<title>Isn&#x27;t Koran-burning like flag burning?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/14/902044/-Isn-t-Koran-burning-like-flag-burning</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Remember the fuss about that? &#x26;nbsp;In 1989, in the face of considerable public outrage, the Supreme Court upheld the right to burn the US flag in public. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._johnson&#x22;&#x3E;http://en.wikipedia.org/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;If I remember correctly, &#x26;nbsp;the then Solicitor General Kenneth Starr argued the losing case against the right to burn the flag before the Supreme Court. &#x26;nbsp;Yes, that Kenneth Starr.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Am I a Bad Liberal?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/11/901158/-Am-I-a-Bad-Liberal</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Am I hopelessly out-of-step? &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;m 50 now, so maybe some fundamental changes have taken place in our ranks that went over my head. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I don&#x27;t think so.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In our contempt for hatemongers, are too many of us willing to abandon first principles? &#x26;nbsp;To become, like the pigs in Animal Farm, indistinguisable from that we set out to fight against?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Terry Jones&#x27; Daughter: &#x22;He needs help&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/11/900971/-Terry-Jones-Daughter-He-needs-help</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ok, so we all know this guy is crazy, but confirmation comes from &#x3C;em&#x3E;Der Speigel Online&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, in an &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,716858,00.html&#x22;&#x3E;interview with his daughter&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;She says he was formerly a pastor of a sect-like congregation in Germany, where he developed serious religious delusions. He preached an unorthodox &#x22;demonology&#x22;,engaged in &#x22;exploitation and psychological abuse&#x22;, told congregants to beat their children with rods, instituted &#x22;forced work&#x22; and engaged in shady financial dealings.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/11/900970/-Pastor-Mustache-In-New-York</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Pastor Terry Jones, who had planned to burn copies of the Koran today, the ninth anniversary of 9/11, has arrived in New York looking for a meeting with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. From &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hKWWJdTrfALpbYfWB6fM58p6u-pwD9I5G0V80&#x22;&#x3E;AP&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Jones landed in New York Friday night and declined to talk to reporters on his way to a cab.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Jones has said he wants to meet with the imam overseeing a proposed mosque and Islamic center to be built near ground zero.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Now that&#x26;rsquo;s the Gainesville I know and love!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/9/900627/-Now-that-rsquo-s-the-Gainesville-I-know-and-love</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I fled the South over three years ago, and, since then, I periodically took pride in hearing my hometown mentioned in the news. &#x26;nbsp;I beamed when I heard Obama took Alachua County by a huge margin in the primaries (the so-called Reagan Democrats in that area teem like locusts, so I wasn&#x26;rsquo;t optimistic about his chances). And, of course, my alma mater, UF, made me proud with national championship and &#x22;don&#x26;rsquo;t tase me bro...&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;That&#x26;rsquo;s my hometown, I&#x26;rsquo;d often boast to my Philadelphian friends.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But this recent episode and the resulting media attention for Gainesville horrifies me. Every time I hear &#x22;Gainesville&#x22; from the lips of the national media now, I cringe. Which is why I desperately need &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100909/ARTICLES/9091049/0/news01?tc=ar&#x22;&#x3E;more of this&#x3C;/a&#x3E; in my news intake:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Who is Behind Reverend McBurnsAlot?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/10/900521/-Who-is-Behind-Reverend-McBurnsAlot</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m not a conspiratorialist, but honestly - look at the facts here and ask yourselves:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;How on earth can Reverend Terry Jones (Church of the Sacred Lighter Fluid) have put himself in the position he has?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is a big, loony-toony fish in a teeny-weeny living space, and yet he seems to be getting smarter and more tactical as this news story has cycled on.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Buy a Koran!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/9/900503/-Buy-a-Koran</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I wouldn&#x27;t normally care that some nutjob in Florida wants to burn a Koran, but the fact that it has become global news scares me.
&#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; When the KKK entered a town, the best reaction was for them to be met peacefully by an overwhelming number of people preaching tolerance. Likewise, we can react to the burning of a Koran by showing in overwhelming numbers that most Americans don&#x27;t support such lunacy.
&#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;So if the Koran burning goes through, or maybe even if it doesn&#x27;t, I&#x27;m going to go out and buy a Koran, even though I didn&#x27;t have much interest in doing that before. It&#x27;s about time I read it or understood it better anyway. I would love to see a huge run on Korans in the United States. I hope you will join me and spread the word to as many people as possible. Maybe we can make the Koran a bestseller.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Pres. Obama on Pastor Jones: &#x22;I hope he listens to those better angels&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/9/900431/-Pres-Obama-on-Pastor-Jones-I-hope-he-listens-to-those-better-angels</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In an interview with ABC&#x27;s George Stephanopoulos, President Obama expressed concern about Florida pastor Terry Jones&#x27; plan to publicly burn Korans on 9/11, calling it a &#x22;destructive act&#x22; that would be &#x22;completely contrary to our values of Americans&#x22;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;object width=&#x22;344&#x22; classid=&#x22;clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000&#x22; id=&#x22;ABCESNWID&#x22; height=&#x22;278&#x22; codebase=&#x22;http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,124,0&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;http://abcnews.go.com/assets/player/walt2.6/flash/SFP_Walt.swf&#x22; name=&#x22;movie&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;high&#x22; name=&#x22;quality&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;always&#x22; name=&#x22;allowScriptAccess&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;all&#x22; name=&#x22;allowNetworking&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;configUrl=http://abcnews.go.com/video/sfp/embedPlayerConfig&#x26;amp;configId=406732&#x26;amp;clipId=11591209&#x26;amp;showId=11589122&#x26;amp;gig_lt=1284050564393&#x26;amp;gig_pt=1284050567082&#x26;amp;gig_g=2&#x22; name=&#x22;flashvars&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;param value=&#x22;true&#x22; name=&#x22;allowfullscreen&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;embed width=&#x22;344&#x22; allowscriptaccess=&#x22;always&#x22; src=&#x22;http://abcnews.go.com/assets/player/walt2.6/flash/SFP_Walt.swf&#x22; name=&#x22;ABCESNWID&#x22; pluginspage=&#x22;http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&#x22; height=&#x22;278&#x22; allowfullscreen=&#x22;true&#x22; flashvars=&#x22;configUrl=http://abcnews.go.com/video/sfp/embedPlayerConfig&#x26;amp;configId=406732&#x26;amp;clipId=11591209&#x26;amp;showId=11589122&#x26;amp;gig_lt=1284050564393&#x26;amp;gig_pt=1284050567082&#x26;amp;gig_g=2&#x22; type=&#x22;application/x-shockwave-flash&#x22; quality=&#x22;high&#x22; allownetworking=&#x22;all&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/embed&#x3E;&#x3C;/object&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the notable things about President Obama&#x27;s remarks is that he didn&#x27;t merely speak out against the plan to burn Korans -- he also reaffirmed his view that while Pastor Jones might be engaging in an &#x22;offensive&#x22; action, such actions represent exercises of free speech that are protected by the very same Constitution that protects religious liberty.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;You know, part of this country&#x27;s history is people doing destructive or offensive or harmful things. And yet, we still have to make sure that we&#x27;re following the laws. And that&#x27;s part of what I love about this country.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;So while President Obama might not like what Pastor Jones plans to do, he also defends Jones&#x27; right to do it -- in the process delivering a perfect example American ideals in action.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;By the way, on a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/archives/2010/09/koran-burning_p_1.php&#x22;&#x3E;hilarious side note&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, Pastor Jones says he wants a phone call from Pres. Obama to discuss his Koran burning plans. Somehow I doubt that will happen. Maybe instead Jones could read Sarah Palin&#x27;s &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=427813493434&#x22;&#x3E;Facebook page&#x3C;/a&#x3E;...where he&#x27;d learn that she believes he&#x27;s every bit as bad as those scary Muslims who plan to build a mosque at Ground Zero. (Of course. as Greg Sargent &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/09/the_morning_plum_86.html&#x22;&#x3E;notes&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, there is no Ground Zero Mosque, but who needs facts when you&#x27;re Sarah Palin...)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Full transcript below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;Join the discussion in BruinKid&#x27;s recommended diary, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/9/900349/-Jon-Stewart-takes-on-Koran-burning-pastor&#x22;&#x3E;Jon Stewart takes on Koran-burning pastor&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.

<title>President Obama condemns the Koran burning &#x27;stunt&#x27;.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/9/900412/-President-Obama-condemns-the-Koran-burning-stunt</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Of course everyone knows about this inflammatory, muslim baiting Koran burning drama by a hitherto unknown pastor named, Terry Jones in Florida.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Now thanks to a third-rate , journalistically challenged, two-bit hackery called the US main stream media, this unhinged nutjob of a pastor, whose ugly &#x26;amp; unsavory past in Europe has just been uncovered by Der Spiegel this week, has become notoriously famous all around the world for his crude act.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Neither the main stream media nor the prominent politicians from both sides of the aisle have come out so far publicly condemning this man and his hateful group for their wanton incitement of anger of 1/5 of the world population. Of course admin officials like Hillary Clinton and General Petraeus have condemned this act as a cause of danger to the american soldiers now in Afghanistan. Various European governments have condemned it with even one NATO general calling it an insult to the dignity of the coalition that is fighting along with the americans in Afghanistan.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I am extremely embarrassed by the actions of many of my fellow Americans right now. &#x26;nbsp;I honestly believe that what we have here is a nation guided by the most incredible document ever created, notwithstanding that it says &#x22;all men are created equal&#x22; instead of &#x22;all people&#x22;. &#x26;nbsp;To see the rank hypocrisy and rampant spreading of fear in the name of any one god is a sad testament to our times and times past. &#x26;nbsp;I decided to do something in the belief that even a small personal gesture can bring us closer to the ideals enshrined in our constitution.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Keeping up with the Joneses: How do you honor the dead?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/8/900218/-Keeping-up-with-the-Joneses-How-do-you-honor-the-dead</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m not talking about honoring the dead in some abstract sense. &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;m talking about honoring specific people who were near and dear to you. &#x26;nbsp;Like a deceased former wife.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;If it was me, I would probably send her mother flowers every year to commemorate the birthday of our dearly departed. &#x26;nbsp;Maybe even put a little note in to remind her mom that once upon a time an angel of light walked among us and the world is a better place because of that. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;A more spiritually inclined spouse might come to the conclusion our soul is the part of us that dwells in our future. &#x26;nbsp;The phrase &#x22;she lives in our hearts&#x22; would take on new meaning as he looked around and saw all the lives she had touched. &#x26;nbsp; In that moment, he might even find solace in the knowledge that her soul was alive and well even though she dwelt in houses he could never visit, not even in his dreams.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But that is not the way Terry D. Jones of Gainesville, Florida does it. &#x26;nbsp;He uses his dead wife&#x27;s name to give his money laundering operation the versimilitude of sincerity. &#x26;nbsp;What kind of sick fuck does that? &#x26;nbsp;A sociopathic con artist, for one. &#x26;nbsp; Let me tell you about the Lisa Jones House/Haus.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Opposition is mounting to the &#x22;Burn a Koran Day&#x22; scheduled for September 11th in Florida. &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://blog.humanrightsfirst.org/2010/09/petraeus-condemns-koran-burning.html&#x22;&#x3E;General David Petraeus&#x3C;/a&#x3E; said it could harm our troops, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/07/AR2010090705913.html?wpisrc=nl_pmheadline&#x22;&#x3E;Secretary of State Hillary Clinton&#x3C;/a&#x3E; called it unrepresentative of Americans. &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/39048161/ns/us_news-security/&#x22;&#x3E;Attorney General Eric Holder&#x3C;/a&#x3E; called it &#x22;idiotic and dangerous,&#x22; and &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iUmfrL5RMlABxIO4zDl3rMvYHADQD9I3NR2O0&#x22;&#x3E;the Vatican&#x3C;/a&#x3E; has called the planned demonstration &#x22;outrageous and grave.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>From Gainesville, FL: &#x26;#160;THIS is who we are</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/8/900129/-From-Gainesville-FL-160-THIS-is-who-we-are</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I just returned from a deeply moving and inspirational interfaith service for unity at a church in downtown Gainesville, organized by 25 members of the local clergy as a counterpoint to this Saturday&#x27;s planned burning of the Qu&#x27;ran by a fringe church leader. &#x26;nbsp;Below the jump, I am posting the contents of the program without comment, as the speakers and substance tell the story on their own. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Unfortunately I can&#x27;t post any photos, as my PDA camera is broken. &#x26;nbsp;However, several news agencies were there, so I hope visuals eventually start hitting the airwaves. &#x26;nbsp;By my rough count at least 200-250 people attended, despite this happening in the middle of a workday on one of the first weeks back to school, and with very little advance notice. &#x26;nbsp;While the church was not quite &#x22;Easter Sunday crowded&#x22;, several people had to stand in the rear. &#x26;nbsp;Most were local residents rather than UF students, though some students were there. &#x26;nbsp;In particular there seemed to be a predominance of retirees, probably reflecting who could make it at noon on a Wednesday. &#x26;nbsp;All manner of folks attended with all types of dress. &#x26;nbsp;I saw at least one camouflaged hunter&#x27;s cap, and southern drawls abounded. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Republicans Finally Denounce Koran Burning - Stand Up For 1st Amendment.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/8/900097/-Republicans-Finally-Denounce-Koran-Burning-Stand-Up-For-1st-Amendment</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Finally, I was getting worried. Knowing how Republican leaders like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, John Boehner, et cetera, love the Constitution and love defending it, you knew that eventually they would stand up for the First Amendment and denounce the planned Koran burning in Florida.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I found over &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.google.com/news/more?pz=1&#x26;amp;cf=all&#x26;amp;ncl=dp9bf3Pk4bADtsM2bekF9pY_Q5adM&#x26;amp;topic=h&#x22;&#x3E;4,300 articles via Google News&#x3C;/a&#x3E; on this issue, and there are more than that, including &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.commonsensenms.com/2010/09/07/americans-dont-burn-books-new-post-published-this-morning/&#x22;&#x3E;my post&#x3C;/a&#x3E; from yesterday, but it was the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://thinkprogress.org/2010/09/08/republicans-silent-quran-burning/&#x22;&#x3E;Republicans standing up for freedom of religion&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that really caught my eye.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>NEWSFLASH: Koran burning con artists couldn&#x27;t care less!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/7/899773/-NEWSFLASH-Koran-burning-con-artists-couldn-t-care-less</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Recent headlines trumpeted Gen. Petraeus&#x27; concern that a couple of idiots in Gainesville might put the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of our troops in danger. &#x26;nbsp;I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if anyone thinks they are going to avoid a shitstorm by appealing to the patriotism and compassion of bible-thumping con artists like Terry and Sylvia Jones, they are in for one hell of a rude awakening. &#x26;nbsp;You see, Terry Jones has something David Petreaus doesn&#x27;t have. &#x26;nbsp;Terry Jones has an exit plan. &#x26;nbsp;An integral part of that plan is to create as big a distraction as possible so he can take the money and run.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is the third in a series of posts documenting the operations of Terry and Sylvia Jones of Gainesville, FL. &#x26;nbsp;I am putting this out here hoping it will catch fire and unmask these rat bastards before they cause terrible damage. &#x26;nbsp;Let me give you the punchline up front: Terry and Sylvia Jones are predators with a history of preying on their flock. &#x26;nbsp;As far as they are concerned, Private Ryan can save his own ass, the &#x22;benjamins&#x22; are all these con artists care about. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Enough is enough. Enough with the bigotry and the hate. Enough with the race-baiting and the fake debate about the Ground Zero Mosque. Enough of white Americans putting up fences to keep their fellow humans out. Enough of the birthers.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Keeping up with the Joneses: Koran burning con artists.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/6/896744/-Keeping-up-with-the-Joneses-Koran-burning-con-artists</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;I am documenting this here so no one can say they were &#x22;shocked&#x22; to learn about it later.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;In &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/5/893426/-WARNING:-Money-launderers-using-moslems-as-red-herrings.&#x22;&#x3E;WARNING: Money launderers using muslims as red herrings&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, I raised the warning about two professional con artists in Gainesville Florida. &#x26;nbsp;Evidence suggests their plan to burn The Koran is nothing more than manufacturing a cause c&#x26;#233;l&#x26;#232;bre so they can paint themselves as victims of religious persecution before they take the money and run. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Based on public information, I concluded Terry and Sylvia Jones
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;1&#x22;&#x3E; take in money for allegedly religious purposes (placement) and&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;2&#x22;&#x3E; shuffle it around through multiple businesses across state lines and even internationally (layering)&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;3&#x22;&#x3E; bring the money back in through a variety of channels managed by for profit corporations that are subsidiaries of TS and Co., LLC (integration)&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;4&#x22;&#x3E; turn profits into multiple real estate holdings of considerable value (payday). &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Upon further examination I realized I missed something very important. I missed the slave labor.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Fire Department Blocks Koran Burning</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/21/895254/-Fire-Department-Blocks-Koran-Burning</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ha! &#x26;nbsp;Thanks to the City of Gainesville, the Fire Chief has put a little crimp in the haters &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/08/fire_department_denies_florida_churchs_plans_to_burn_korans.php&#x22;&#x3E;plans:&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;According to the Gainesville Sun, fire chief Gene Prince told the church &#x22;that under the city&#x27;s fire prevention ordinance, an open burning of books is not allowed.&#x22; Turns out town code 10-63, a &#x22;General prohibition on outdoor burning and open burning,&#x22; specifically outlaws the burning of (section 6) &#x22;Newspaper&#x22; and (7) &#x22;Corrugated cardboard, container board, office paper.&#x22;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;WTF?&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;That&#x27;s what I&#x27;d say if I woke up to that headline. &#x26;nbsp;But it&#x27;s true.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Part 1: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/5/893426/-WARNING:-Money-launderers-using-muslims-as-red-herrings.&#x22;&#x3E;WARNING: Money-launderers using muslims as red herrings.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;
