<title>Phoney Condolences..crocodile tears</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/10/3/1703790/-Phoney-Condolences-crocodile-tears</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The tragic slaughter in Las Vegas Sunday is predictably being met with calls on the right to focus on the victims with &#x201C;warm condolences&#x201D;, compassion, and empathy and to disparage the left for &#x201C;politicizing&#x201D; the tragedy as the Left calls for reasonable gun control legislation--at long last.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The pathetic right wing Republican response brings two pertinent analogies to my mind. &#xA0;The first, has a husband coming home from work (let&#x2019;s make it real and call him Donald, or Paul, or Mitch, or Sean) and he finds his wife being brutally raped in his bedroom. &#xA0;The rapist jumps off the bed and the husband rushes to his wife to offer comfort, compassion, and the &#x201C;warmest of condolences&#x201D;. &#xA0;Meanwhile, the rapist is pulling on his pants and tucking in his shirt. &#xA0;Coincidentally, the husband takes a cell phone call from a Democratic colleague to whom he relates what&#x2019;s unfolded. &#xA0;The democratic colleague urges the husband to call 911, to beat the crap out of the S.O.B., and to not let him get away. &#xA0;The Republican husband retorts over the wailing of his wife that the democrat just wants him to politicize the situation. &#xA0;Meanwhile, the rapist checks his hair in the dresser mirror as he exits &#xA0;the bedroom but before leaving the house grabs a cold one from the fridge and shouts over his shoulder, &#x201C;I may be back again in a couple of months.&#x201D;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;A second relevant analogy is about a bridge in severe disrepair. &#xA0;The bridge has no guard rails; the surface is riddled with deep potholes; and the road surface slants severely toward the bridge edge. &#xA0;For the third time in five years a school bus full of more than twenty elementary school children plunges off the bridge falling one hundred feet into the icy river waters. &#xA0;There are no survivors. &#xA0;Republicans again race to express their condolences for the large loss of life and again say this is no time to politicize the situation. &#xA0;Democrats again call for a guard rail on the bridge and for repair and modification of the bridge surface. &#xA0;Republicans strenuously object and say there is no proof that the repairs would have prevented the tragic loss of life and, besides, the Democrats really just want to abolish the bridge.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x2019;m sick of the warmest of condolences from the gutless Republican swamp rats&#x2026;with apologies to swamp rats.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
