<title>Corporal Lindsey C Lockett Comes Home</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/4/8/1376381/-Corporal-Lindsey-C-Lockett-Comes-Home</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In 1950, 24-year-old Army Corporal Lindsey C. Lockett was captured by Chinese troops in Korea. Word came that he died in captivity. Now, 65 years later, the Department of Defense informed his family that his remains have been identified.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;His Grandson had this to say: &#x201C;Being a soldier, and my father is a Marine, there&#x2019;s great pride for us because he&#x2019;s a fallen comrade but he&#x2019;s also a father and a grandfather,&#x201D; said Leonardo Lockett, the grandson. &#x201C;Through all this time, 65 years, the army never gave up on my grandfather. That just bestows upon what the military is all about,&#x201D; he said.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Link to the news story:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://wric.com/2015/04/04/richmond-soldier-missing-for-decades-finally-identified-will-be-buried-next-week/&#x22;&#x3E;http://wric.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Over 73,000 US personnel remain unaccounted for from World War II; over 7,800 US personnel remain unaccounted for from the Korean War; and over 1,600 remain unaccounted for in Southeast Asia (SEA). &#x26;nbsp;Comparison of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from recovered remains against mtDNA from a matrilineal descendant can assist in providing a positive ID for those recovered remains.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Unfortunately, JPAC has recently reorganized their web site; they no longer seems to provide by-name lists of the MIAs for whom there is a need for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) samples to assist in possible identification of remains. &#x26;nbsp;So if you have a relative that is still MIA from World War II, Korea, or SEA &#x2013; please consider reading this link FAQ section &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dpaa.mil/Resources/FAQs.aspx-&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.dpaa.mil/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E; &#x22;Who is eligible to donate mtDNA samples?&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you qualify to submit a mtDNA sample and have a relative from World War II, Korea, or SEA who is still MIA, please contact JPAC (there is an 866 number and see if they already have a mtDNA sample for your missing relative. &#x26;nbsp;If not, please arrange to submit a sample. &#x26;nbsp;By submitting a mtDNA sample, you may be able to help identify US remains that have been recovered and repatriated but not yet positively identified.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Everybody deserves a proper burial. &#x26;nbsp;That&#x2019;s especially true for those who gave their all while serving this nation.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Kris Kobach (R-KS) uses POW-MIA Day to take a punch at Military Voting</title>

&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-r&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;image_container&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://images.dailykos.com/images/106810/small/pow_mia_black-500x500.jpg?1411170236&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; width=&#x22;250&#x22; height=&#x22;250&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Many American families have traditions of military service. &#x26;nbsp; I am always glad to point out the proud military service of my Brother, in the US Air Force, and my candidate, US Air Force. &#x26;nbsp; Today, Sept. 19 marks a special remembrance for all of our nation about the risks and the duty of defending our nation.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo/pow_day/&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.dtic.mil/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be observed on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014. This annual event honors prisoners of war and our missing and their families, and highlights the government&#x27;s commitment to account for them.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Too many Americans serving abroad were captured or lost, and too many suffered as a prisoner of war. &#x26;nbsp; Today, we honor those who were returned, we hope for those who are lost.. and we take a moment to work to better protect our troops overseas.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Today, however, in Kansas was something quite different. &#x26;nbsp; Today in the state house, a Secretary of State took a moment to take a swipe at disenfranchising and confusing the military vote - voters who are predominantly Republican over his own petty pride.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://m.therepublic.com/view/story/e9fa809996af41388635b9bb84bebb50/US--Senate-Kansas-Kobach&#x22;&#x3E;http://m.therepublic.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;The ballots will have no Democratic candidate in the U.S. Senate race after the Kansas Supreme Court ordered Kobach to honor nominee Chad Taylor&#x27;s request to remove his name. Some Democrats pushed Taylor out to help independent candidate Greg Orman&#x27;s chances of defeating Republican Sen. Pat Roberts.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Kobach said Democrats are still obligated to pick a new nominee.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The ballots going out Saturday will come with a disclaimer saying a new ballot will come later if Democrats pick a new candidate.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
In fact, with text provided, the ballots tell military voters they may be required to &#x27;re-vote&#x27; as this may not be the final ballot.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The slightly less then 600 military ballots that will be sent out - votes that are likely primarily Republican - are being told that maybe they should wait on real ballots... without any hope of real follow up instruction, seemingly neutralizing their vote.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>So Romney as CiC Would Abandon the Korean War MIA&#x27;s</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/4/14/1083380/-So-Romney-as-CiC-Would-Abandon-the-Korean-War-MIA-s</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Just like his tepublican predecessor did, the still leader, that nobody even mentions, of that once political party that still call themselves republican, so does everyone else, until mittens is crowned as their dear leader and that&#x27;s still not decided.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;The Bush Administration also elected not to make POW/MIA accounting an issue in the &#x201C;Six-Party Talks&#x201D;&#x3C;/b&#x3E; which have led to the most recent concessions to North Korea. In contrast, Japan did focus its efforts on uncovering the truth about its citizens believed to have been abducted by North Korea for intelligence purposes.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;After years of stonewalling, starting in 2002 North Korea admitted it had indeed abducted Japanese citizens and eventually returned five of them. Japan continues to press for additional information.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Tragically, this has created a situation in which the U.S. government has made accounting for Japanese civilians a higher priority than resolving the fates of American GIs.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;On June 26, President Bush announced he was dropping North Korea&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
from &#x201C;Trading with the Enemy&#x201D; status and moving to remove Pyongyang from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The President declared: &#x201C;The other thing I want to assure our friends in Japan is that this process will not leave behind -- leave them behind on the abduction issue. The United States takes the abduction issue very seriously. We expect the North Koreans to solve this issue in a positive way for the Japanese&#x2026;And it is important for the Japanese people to know that the United States will not abandon our strong ally and friend when it comes to helping resolve that issue.&#x201D; &#x3C;b&#x3E;The President made no mention of the U.S. POW/MIAs.&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;i&#x3E;{the above comes from a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://koreacoldwar.org/pdf/KoreanPOWMIA-WhitePaper-NAF-June08.pdf&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;nine page pdf&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E; about the Korean MIA&#x27;s, I remember his comments well, the highlights by me.}&#x3C;/i&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Will he seek to gin up intelligence and send soldiers once again into Korea invading then occupying?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;Joe the Plumber&#x22; and an Agenda for an Honest Media</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/16/633030/--Joe-the-Plumber-and-an-Agenda-for-an-Honest-Media</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;When Barack Obama was campaigning in the Toledo area, he met the now famous &#x22;Joe the Plumber&#x22; of Holland, Ohio. Joe said that he was about the buy his boss&#x26;rsquo;s business and that it earns more than $250,000 a year. Joe was unhappy because he thought Obama&#x26;rsquo;s tax plan would hurt him and slow his quest for the American dream. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The electronic media presented Joe as an uncommitted voter. We do not know if Joe presented himself as such. Joe has said that Social Security is a &#x22;joke,&#x22; and that Obama is a socialist. He volunteered that he admires Mc Cain and the military. He admitted that he was not earning a great deal, which calls his story into question.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;We know now that he was not a licensed plumber and that he said he practiced plumbing on his employer&#x26;rsquo;s license. The problem is that this is not legal in Lucas County, where he works.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain Works to Hide POW/MIA&#x27;s in Vietnam</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/14/630320/-McCain-Works-to-Hide-POW-MIA-s-in-Vietnam</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;At times, I&#x27;ve lamented here that we just can&#x27;t seem to get past Vietnam in so many ways. &#x26;nbsp;The perceived wound to our national pride and horrible misadventure that was our presence there reverberates 30+ years later, and McCain, during his presidential campaign, has used his POW &#x22;get out of a tight spot&#x22; card freely throughout. &#x26;nbsp;I thought it was craven and cowardly that he would use his status in this manner to avoid answering questions about his behavior or cast his opponents as substandard. &#x26;nbsp;Sydney H. Schanberg&#x27;s investigative piece in The Nation only confirms my opinion, and also offers (to me at least), the capstone reasons that McCain is not fit to be president. &#x26;nbsp;In his writing, Schanberg posits that McCain actively worked to deny release of information from government records that could have ended the grieving and questioning of families of POW/MIA in Vietnam by sponsoring legislation and government policy that did so.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Follow me below the fold...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;McCain hit a woman. &#x26;nbsp;She was the niece of a MIA Veteran from Vietnam. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>untitled diaryJohn Mc Cain&#x26;rsquo;s Temperament Disqualifies Him for the White House</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/4/620073/-untitled-diaryJohn-Mc-Cain-rsquo-s-Temperament-Disqualifies-Him-for-the-White-House</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Republican columnist George Will has been echoing The Wall Street Journal&#x26;rsquo;s sharp criticisms of Mc Cain. The paper was alarmed by Mc Cain&#x26;rsquo;s somewhat childish attacks on Chris Cox, chairman of the SEC. A problem was McCain had no factual information at his disposal. Will called his &#x26;nbsp;candidate&#x26;rsquo;s comments &#x22;fact-free slander.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;He complained that McCain&#x26;rsquo;s comments were &#x22;unpresidential&#x22; and that the senator had a &#x22;Machiavellian worldview.&#x22; Some of us who have studied McCain had reached that conclusion months ago. &#x26;nbsp;Will correctly noted that the senator has a way of &#x22;substituting vehemence for coherence.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;Will suggested that McCain was temperamentally unfit to be president.&#x3C;em&#x3E;&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Swift Boating John McCain</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/28/577363/-Swift-Boating-John-McCain</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Anyone who has looked into the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swift_Boat_Veterans_for_Truth&#x22;&#x3E;&#x22;swift boating&#x22; of John Kerry&#x3C;/a&#x3E; will quickly see that there was more going on than just a blind smear campaign. &#x26;nbsp;There was an underlying resentment against some of the actions John Kerry took that many military members saw as dishonorable or treasonous. &#x26;nbsp;There were veterans groups that had existing, non political, resentments who&#x27;s military opposition research was tapped for the storyline that the media campaign created. &#x26;nbsp;The swift boat campaign ripped the scab off that wound that had not yet healed between John Kerry and some veterans and added some unsubstantiated claims on top of it as frosting. &#x26;nbsp;It was that cumulative effect that led to the success of the campaign.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;What many people don&#x27;t realize about John McCain is that his track record when it comes to military affairs is not the impregnable fortress many believe it to be. &#x26;nbsp;It takes only a little Google research to find out some surprisingly damaging facts about McCain as both &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.usvetdsp.com/jan08/mccain_military_record.htm&#x22;&#x3E;a military officer&#x3C;/a&#x3E; and, surprisingly, as a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.usvetdsp.com/aug08/mccain_unfit.htm&#x22;&#x3E;POW advocate&#x3C;/a&#x3E; as well.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>It&#x27;s not about being a POW, Mr. McCain!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/575349/-It-s-not-about-being-a-POW-Mr-McCain</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Just as it wasn&#x27;t about the cookies Mrs. Clinton didn&#x27;t bake; it&#x27;s not about having been a POW, but the experience and what you take away from it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;When my friend, Andy, who&#x27;d escaped from Hungary in 1956 on foot and then signed up with the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school in 1958 so he could get a college education, came back after a year of duty overseas, he was a psychological wreck. &#x26;nbsp;Not only had the effort to survive in the jungle, where his buddy had his throat cut while the others slept, taken a terrible toll, but, having been sworn to secrecy about where he&#x27;d even been, he found it impossible to even unburden himself. &#x26;nbsp;It wasn&#x27;t until years later that we the American people learned our troops had been on the ground in Vietnam before most of us even knew where it was on the map. &#x26;nbsp;In the event, there&#x27;s no way my friend Andy would ever be singing &#x22;Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A couple of Disturbing Parallels re McCain?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/7/1/545118/-A-couple-of-Disturbing-Parallels-re-McCain</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; All of the outrage over anyone daring to question John McCain&#x27;s fitness to be president by saying being shot down and held as a POW isn&#x27;t a real test of executive ability got me to thinking a couple of thoughts.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; Probably too many of you are too young to remember the Democratic Saint - John F. Kennedy. He was the president who was also a World War II hero, &#x26;nbsp;one who got his PT boat cut in half by a Japanese destroyer while making &#x26;nbsp;a night attack on Japanese shipping, was injured, and risked capture before being rescued with his surviving crew. They even made a movie about it, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.amazon.com/PT-109-Cliff-Robertson/dp/6304457405&#x22;&#x3E;PT-109&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. That campaign seems like such a simpler time now, almost innocent - yet it was the one that really schooled Richard M. Nixon and set him on his dark path.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp;Is John McCain a kind of anti-JFK? An aging war hero well past his prime, defending a failed regime? &#x26;nbsp;Does he have a comparable cult of adulation? Instead of &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.learnhistory.org.uk/usa/newfrontier.htm&#x22;&#x3E;New Frontiers&#x3C;/a&#x3E; will he lead us into &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://eliotswasteland.tripod.com/&#x22;&#x3E;The Wasteland&#x3C;/a&#x3E;?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;(more)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain Assaulted a Woman in a Wheelchair</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/25/542130/-McCain-Assaulted-a-Woman-in-a-Wheelchair</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;back in 1996, according to Elliot D. Cohen in a guest column at &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/contributors/1670&#x22;&#x3E;Buzzflash&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. And even though there were several eyewitnesses and numerous complaints to the Senate Ethics Committee, it was never investigated.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Fitting considering a conversation I just had the other day with a life-long Republican (he even served in the Ford administration). He said he was embarrassed for his party this year. Why? Because he&#x27;s worked with McCain on several occassions and told me that everything you&#x27;ve heard about his temper is accurate. He told me that McCain should never set foot in the oval office.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Sharpen the Knives: 21 Things to Know About McCain</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/6/491286/-Sharpen-the-Knives-21-Things-to-Know-About-McCain</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;We all know that politics is a dirty business and that the 2008 campaign for President is going to get nasty. We need to be prepared. Although I personally believe that the Democrats can win on policy and vision, we need to recognize that the GOP has been backed into a corner and the fight will be vicious. In that spirit, I have prepared a list of facts about John McCain. I am not advocating any particular method of using these facts in the campaign but I do feel it is necessary to have a helpful compendium of opposition research to draw on in the event that we need to counterattack. Feel free to add to the list in the Comments.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Cross Posted at &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.docudharma.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=4809#95199&#x22;&#x3E;Docudharma&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;A while back I got the urge to visit Goodwill, I rarely do because the days of bargains are long gone around here. But I also know even if I&#x27;m not shopping for anything when I get that urge I will find something I didn&#x27;t know I needed until I get there. I also found a parking spot close to the door, another sign I was going home with something. I hit the furniture section and didn&#x27;t see anything and then headed down the back wall something I never do, when I spotted it hanging on a hanger amidst some curtains. A flag. Not just any flag mind you, but a special flag, the creases from it&#x27;s unmistakable triangular fold still visible. It was a interment flag, used to drape the coffin of a veteran or soldier who died in action.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Follow me beneath the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The Black Flag Forever</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/20/439776/-The-Black-Flag-Forever</link>
<description>&#x26;lt;div align=&#x22;left&#x22;&#x26;gt;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I wonder how other Americans feel when they see that black flag flying on the same pole as the Stars and Stripes. Are they proud? indifferent? confused? annoyed? Or do they just take it for granted? How is it explained to young people? And what do foreign visitors make of this peculiar addition to our national flag?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Only the &#x22;Patriotic&#x22; Republicans really support the troops</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/5/31/341295/-Only-the-Patriotic-Republicans-really-support-the-troops</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E; I&#x27;m sure that we are all very familiar with the Republican party propaganda machine constantly proclaiming that they alone support the troops and that the rest of us are unpatriotic. Well in a new book entitled &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.enormouscrime.com/&#x22;&#x3E;An Enormous Crime&#x3C;/a&#x3E; co-written by former &#x3C;strong&#x3E;US Congressman Bill Hendon who was a Republican from North Carolina during the Reagan years&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; provides evidence that Nixon/Kissinger allowed 700 POW&#x27;s to remain imprisoned in Vietnam and Laos because they reneged on a treaty deal that they had made at the Paris Peace conference which ended our involvement in SouthEast Asia.
&#x3C;br /&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;US Congressman Bill Hendon (R-NC), served two terms on the U.S. House POW/MIA Task Force (1981-1982, 1985-1986); as Consultant on POW/MIA Affairs with an office in the Pentagon (1983); and as a full time intelligence investigator assigned to the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs (1991-1992). He has traveled to South and Southeast Asia 33 times on behalf of America&#x26;rsquo;s POWs and MIAs. Hendon is considered the nation&#x27;s foremost authority on intelligence relating to American POWs held after Operation Homecoming and an expert on the Vietnamese and Laotian prison systems. He lives in Washington, DC.

<title>&#x22;He needs your help&#x22; 40 years ago today</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/5/19/336507/--He-needs-your-help-40-years-ago-today</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;That was the slogan on a button I got on the day I recieved my POW/MIA bracelet - way back in the day. The day when people who believed the war was wrong were told we didn&#x27;t care about our troops. Unlike some people I did not have to worry about what my next deferment would be (I was a young female) nor was I concerned about drug testing whilst a memeber of the champaign unit of the Texas Air National Guard. My body was drug free then. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;James K. Patterson was the son of my aunt&#x27;s neighbor and her son was missing. &#x26;nbsp;She lived in California which gave an air of mystic to my bracelet in Iowa&#x27;s farm country. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
