<title>Question Palin&#x27;s Experience and You&#x27;re a Chauvinist</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/4/586586/-Question-Palin-s-Experience-and-You-re-a-Chauvinist</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Remember when Senator Obama mentioned that the Republicans would try to scare us by saying he &#x22;looks different than the men on the dollar bills,&#x22; how the Republicans immediately accused Obama of &#x22;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/31/mccain-camp-obama-playing_n_116081.html&#x22;&#x3E;playing the race card&#x3C;/a&#x3E;?&#x22; It took them all of four days after announcing Sarah Palin as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee to play the gender card.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/PressReleases/Read.aspx?guid=f56496b5-a2c7-4a57-8a85-95393715635e&#x22;&#x3E;WSJ Opinion Piece: Ignore The Chauvinists. Palin Has Real Experience&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So now, to question Palin&#x27;s experience is chauvinist. To question McCain&#x27;s policies disrespects a POW. Apparently we are not allowed to question anything with the Republican campaign. And they call Obama presumptuous?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>POW busting meme</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/576096/-POW-busting-meme</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;After reading of so many Democrats wringing their hands over how to go after John McCain, maverick philanderer and POW, I have to admit that I don&#x27;t see the big problem. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Even my governor Phil Bredesen thinks it isn&#x27;t advisable, but it would be far from the first time I have disagreed with him!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;While Karl Rove is an asshat of the first degree, he wasn&#x27;t stupid when he said in politics you go after your opponent&#x27;s strength, not their weakness!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The trick in all of this is in not disrespecting his service or his sacrifices.....how do you do that you ask?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Follow me over the speedbump and I&#x27;ll give you my 2 cents worth...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McShame about to play the POW card AGAIN...today</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/575549/-McShame-about-to-play-the-POW-card-AGAIN-today</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is quickly turning into a farce. &#x26;nbsp;We all know that watching the McSame campaign is like having a front row seat to a slow moving train wreck... so I guess we shouldn&#x27;t be surprised that even they can take one of the very, very few legitimate points of sympathy their candidate can garner and waste it by using it so stupidly. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;As solid and organized a campaign as Senator Obama is running, we should all thank our lucky stars that McPain and his crew are so stunningly stupid - over and over again.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So what did they do this time...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The Real McCain &#x22;POW Card&#x22; Hypocrisy</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/26/574850/-The-Real-McCain-POW-Card-Hypocrisy</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;We were reminded recently that it&#x27;s not politically correct to &#x22;hit the girl&#x22; or &#x22;criticize the little black man-child.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;What about holding accountable ambitious politicians that happen to be former POWs? &#x26;nbsp;Is there some unwritten rule that places them above public scrutiny? &#x26;nbsp;Time and again, we have seen McCain campaign invoke his POW experiences to disarm critics and draw attention away from the fallacy of his candidacy. &#x26;nbsp;Whether it&#x26;rsquo;s McCain or one of his apologists, the story is the same, &#x22;I/he was a POW for Christ-sakes.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;The recent height of hilarity was McCain&#x26;rsquo;s defense of his &#x22;man-of-many-houses&#x22; status by invoking the POW meme, aided and abetted by &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/08/24/meet-the-press-carries-mccains-pow-water/&#x22;&#x3E;Tom Brokaw&#x26;rsquo;s&#x3C;/a&#x3E; unabashed obsequiousness. &#x26;nbsp;I am waiting to hear, any day now, that McCain&#x26;rsquo;s unremarkable tenure at the US Naval Academy has been somehow retroactively explained on the basis of his &#x22;future&#x22; POW experience.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A Noun, A Verb and POW</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/22/572619/-A-Noun-A-Verb-and-POW</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;McCain has jumped the POW shark. As Rudy Giuliani is to 9/11, John McCain is to POW. To paraphrase Joe Biden, &#x22;There&#x27;s only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun, and a verb and POW.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/21/mccain-camp-plays-pow-car_n_120428.html&#x22;&#x3E;As Sam Stein has already pointed on Huffington Post&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, McCain has gone to the POW well over and over. His healthcare plan is challenged -- POW! Cheated at Saddleback Forum -- POW! Woodstock Museum -- POW! Can&#x27;t remember how many houses he has -- POW!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>&#x22;I Don&#x27;t Know How Many Homes I Own.&#x22;  Better Than the $400 Haircut</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/21/572363/--I-Don-t-Know-How-Many-Homes-I-Own-Better-Than-the-400-Haircut</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Despite having run fiercely as the champion of the people, the people found it hard to accept a champion who had a $400 haircut. &#x26;nbsp;I mean, really, $400? &#x26;nbsp;He never really caught on after throwing everything into Iowa. &#x26;nbsp;Heck, the $400 haircut made it possible for Hillary Clinton to siphon votes from what should have been the core constituency of John Edwards. &#x26;nbsp;It&#x27;s hard to relate to that, just like it&#x27;s hard relating to someone who can&#x27;t remember how many homes he owns. &#x26;nbsp;While John McCain doesn&#x27;t have enough hair to warrant such a fine cut, his $500 shoes and eight or more homes is tough to understand to the Average Joe(and a lot more than just him). &#x26;nbsp;The fact that he forgot how many homes he has, that he couldn&#x27;t count them in his head on the spot, is like John Edwards&#x27; $400 haircut &#x3C;em&#x3E;on crack.&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>McCain&#x26;rsquo;s POW Defense: Devaluing Our Service and His Own</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/21/572249/-McCain-rsquo-s-POW-Defense-Devaluing-Our-Service-and-His-Own</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;The McCain campaign has spent weeks trying to portray Obama as out of touch with the concerns of ordinary Americans. Today, an interviewer at Politico.com asked McCain how many homes he and his wife owned, to which he responded that he was not sure but would get someone from his staff to answer.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Contrary to what many will tell you, this does not make McCain out of touch with ordinary Americans, as many families today are in trouble with their banks and trying to figure out how many homes they have - zero or one.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Still, it&#x27;s the campaign&#x27;s defense we find deeply troubling:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years -- in prison.&#x22;

<title>McCain is reluctant to talk about his POW experience</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/21/572021/-McCain-is-reluctant-to-talk-about-his-POW-experience</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;except when he talks (and talks and talks) about his POW experience.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Does John McCain exploit his POW experience for political gain? Or is he really the reluctant hero that the Media has obediently portrayed?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x27;s hear first from &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=the_pow_dodge&#x22;&#x3E;Senator McCain&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x22;One of the things I&#x27;ve never tried to do is exploit my Vietnam service to my country because it would be totally inappropriate to do so.&#x22;

<title>Playing the POW card - like playing the race card</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/17/569574/-Playing-the-POW-card-like-playing-the-race-card</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In the middle of the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/18/us/politics/18mccain.html&#x22;&#x3E;NYT&#x3C;/a&#x3E; article on the &#x22;cone of silence&#x22; came a gem of a denial from McCain spokeswoman Nicole Wallace:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This, folks, is called playing the POW card. And it&#x27;s EXACTLY like playing the race card.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
