<title>If Planned Parenthood sponsored a NASCAR race, we&#x27;d never hear the end of it from the right-wingers</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/4/13/1201584/-If-Planned-Parenthood-sponsored-a-NASCAR-race-we-d-never-hear-the-end-of-it-from-the-right-wingers</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Texas Motor Speedway, owned by Bruton Smith&#x27;s Speedway Motorsports and run by notoriously controversial race promoter Eddie Gossage, is holding the NRA 500, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race tonight that is sponsored by the National Rifle Association, the largest of the gun lobby groups in the United States, and FOX is televising the race despite calls from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) for them to not televise the race.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I consider myself to be a &#x22;NASCAR Progressive.&#x22; I am a big fan of the sport of auto racing, but, at the same time, I am a progressive political blogger. While many NASCAR fans are politically conservative, I&#x27;m not.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x27;s face reality here: If Planned Parenthood sponsored a NASCAR race or team, FOX News, Redstate, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and all of the other right-wing bozos out there would throw a big fit over that, and we&#x27;d never hear the end of it from them.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Neither the NRA nor any other political organization speaks for all NASCAR fans, and that&#x27;s why I&#x27;m asking you to &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://signon.org/sign/nascar-ban-all-political?source=c.url&#x26;amp;r_by=4556381&#x22;&#x3E;sign my petition&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to tell NASCAR to ban all political advertising of NASCAR races and teams.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Power up for immigrant women</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/3/17/1194733/-Power-up-for-immigrant-women</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The launch of the &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Power Up! Summit&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; today started a big week of activity on comprehensive immigration reform, with a focus on immigrant women and families.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Power Up! Summit, organized the National Asian Pacific Women&#x27;s Forum, features a conference today at the National Education Association in Washington, focusing on immigrant rights and reproductive justice for Asian American and Pacific Islander girls and women.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The summit is carrying over to become a part of tomorrow morning&#x27;s massive &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Rally &#x3C;a href=&#x22;#4ImmigrantWomen&#x22;&#x3E;#4ImmigrantWomen&#x3C;/a&#x3E; Youth &#x26;amp; Families&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Organized and supported by an array of AAPI, Latina, women&#x27;s rights, and immigrants&#x27; rights groups, the rally begins at 9:30 a.m. EDT at the Upper Senate Park.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sen. Mazie Hirono - the first immigrant woman elected to the Senate and currently the only woman of color and only female immigrant in the Senate - will speak at the rally.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Shortly after the rally, Sen. Hirono will preside over the Judiciary Committee at 2 p.m. EDT (8 a.m. HST) at a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=491999b7f6e49deb61219d9b93ba3454&#x22;&#x3E;hearing&#x3C;/a&#x3E; entitled &#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;How Comprehensive Immigration Reform Should Address the Needs of Women and Families.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;There are two SignOn petitions circulating in advance of the hearing (both with several hundred signatures at last check):&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://signon.org/sign/thank-you-senator-hirono.fb26?source=s.icn.fb&#x26;amp;r_by=5527336&#x22;&#x3E;Thank you, Senator Hirono, for your bold leadership on behalf of immigrant women.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://signon.org/sign/senate-judiciary-committee?source=s.icn.tw&#x26;amp;r_by=5527336&#x22;&#x3E;Senate Judiciary Committee members: hear the voices of immigrant women.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;MoveOn will try to keep the momentum going on comprehensive immigration reform, with nationwide &#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;I Am An American&#x22; house parties&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; next weekend. A MoveOn email provides three reasons to &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://civic.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?id=64333-7679912-6dtSwHx&#x26;amp;action_id=313&#x22;&#x3E;sign up&#x3C;/a&#x3E; as a party host:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;1. Really, there are 11 million reasons&#x2014;11 million aspiring Americans ready to come out of the shadows and become citizens.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;2. It&#x27;s fun to meet other motivated MoveOn members from your community.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;3. Take it from Tom S., a MoveOn member in Los Angeles, CA, who signed up to host a meeting and wrote, &#x22;We will meet, get to know one another, have a delicious meal, strategize on how to impact immigration reform, and have fun doing so.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
So from Hawai&#x27;i to Washington and everywhere in between, there&#x27;s a lot of action being paid to comprehensive immigration reform. Will it result in legislation this year?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;

<title>Tell Nikki Haley to Accept Federal Medicaid Funds</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/1/28/1182760/-Tell-Nikki-Haley-to-Accept-Federal-Medicaid-Funds</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;More than 17% of South Carolina residents don&#x27;t have health insurance, including many children. By rejecting Medicaid expansion funds from the federal government, Nikki Haley is hurting more than 300,000 South Carolinians who would benefit from it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Please reverse course and accept the federal Medicaid dollars and help South Carolinians in need.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>President Obama, Please Call Out Republican Obstruction</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/12/1143684/-President-Obama-Please-Call-Out-Republican-Obstruction</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I was pleased with Vice President Biden&#x27;s debate performance last night. &#x26;nbsp;I might have changed a few things on style, but I loved his aggressiveness in challenging most of Congressman Ryan&#x27;s false statements and lack of details.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;However, during the two most recent debates, Congressman Ryan and Governor Romney both talked about bipartisanship and Congressman Ryan claimed that President Obama should have been able to do more because there was a Democratic majority in the House and Senate when he took office. These attacks went unanswered. President Obama needs to challenge these attacks in the next debate by pointing out Republican obstruction through their record use of the filibuster in the Senate.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have created a petition to President Obama at &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://signon.org/sign/president-obama-please-11?source=c.url&#x26;amp;r_by=5550994&#x22;&#x3E;SignOn.org&#x3C;/a&#x3E; asking President Obama to point out Republican obstruction in future debates. &#x26;nbsp;If you agree and think the petition is worthwhile, please consider signing it as well.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;There is more below the squiggly thing.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>SignOn Petition to DNC: Help Wisconsin with the Walker Recall!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/5/15/1092016/-SignOn-Petition-to-DNC-Help-Wisconsin-with-the-Walker-Recall</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I got an e-mail this afternoon, May 15, with a time-stamp of 2:44pm.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It was from Mary Magnuson of Brookfield, WI, who had started a SignOn petition:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://signon.org/sign/democratic-national-committe?source=mo&#x26;amp;id=41476-2164904-LkauTKx&#x22;&#x3E;Democratic National Committee: Invest In The Scott Walker Recall Now!&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The brief petition is addressed to Debbie Wasserman Schulz, DNC chair, and states:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Democratic National Committee &#x26;amp; Debbie Wasserman Schultz, invest now in the crucial fight to remove Scott Walker from office in Wisconsin--the people have worked hard and it&#x27;s time to help.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Ms. Magnuson goes on to say:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;As a Wisconsin progressive working day and night to recall Scott Walker, I&#x27;m shocked: The DNC still isn&#x27;t giving financial support to the recall fight in Wisconsin. After more than a year of grassroots efforts, Wisconsin citizens have accomplished more than anyone thought possible. We now have a Democratic challenger to Scott Walker who is neck and neck in the polls, even though Tom Barrett is being outspent by Walker&#x27;s millions from out-of-state donations. There is no more time for the Democratic National Committee to wait--if Walker wins, it would be a huge setback to Democrats in races across the country this year. We need the DNC&#x27;s support immediately!&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
When I signed the petition just after 3 this afternoon, there were just over 2 and a half thousand signatures.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;As I type now at 8:23, the signature count is at &#x3C;strong&#x3E;47,118&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
