<title>Good News! Republicans Like Teleprompters Again!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/11/17/1600841/-Good-News-Republicans-Like-Teleprompters-Again</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;We all remember how Republicans told us that Obama was an ignorant fool who couldn&#x2019;t complete a sentence without the aid of a&#xA0;teleprompter, amirite?&#xA0;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/republicans-mock-obamas-teleprompter-use/2011/10/18/gIQA6hEivL_story.html&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;www.washingtonpost.com/&#x2026;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well &#x2026; guess what? Now that Republicans are back in the WH, they LOVE them again! Yay!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Turns out, Trump is actually so unable to stick to a simple message, that they NEEDED to use teleprompters in order to win!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/lewandowski-says-james-comey-letter-energized-trump-win&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;talkingpointsmemo.com/&#x2026;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Lewandowksi:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span&#x3E;In those last last eleven days Mr. Trump was exceptionally disciplined. He used a teleprompter, and he did less media.&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x2019;s also not forget, of course, to make sure that Pres Trump doesn&#x2019;t try to indoctrinate our innocent children into the ways of government control like Pres Obama tried to in 2009!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://mediamatters.org/research/2009/09/03/conservative-media-accuse-obama-of-indoctrinati/154180&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;mediamatters.org/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Bad news for Republicans: Romney&#x27;s relying on teleprompters now</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/5/1156070/-Bad-news-for-Republicans-Romney-s-relying-on-teleprompters-now</link>

&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-cap&#x22;&#x3E;Don&#x27;t let Republicans see this picture.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Remember how the first thing Barack Obama did when he became president&#x2014;after making Kenyan Islamic socialism the law of the land, that is&#x2014;was to invent the teleprompter, because until then, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/03/29/714249/-The-Teleprompter-President?detail=hide&#x22;&#x3E;no president&#x3C;/a&#x3E; had ever given a speech using prepared remarks? And, as Republicans have explained to us countless times, there is absolutely no sin greater, or more impeachable, than the president reading a speech off a teleprompter. Before she was chased out of the Republican primary by Rick &#x22;Oops&#x22; Perry, Michele Bachmann promised that if she were president, she&#x27;d &#x3C;em&#x3E;never&#x3C;/em&#x3E; use a teleprompter because that&#x27;s exactly what Americans want in a leader&#x2014;an off-the-cuff riffer. Because nothing could ever go wrong with that.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Which means that if Mitt Romney wins tomorrow [&#x3C;em&#x3E;pause for laughter&#x3C;/em&#x3E;], Republicans will no doubt draw up the articles of impeachment ASAP &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/decision2012/mitt-romney-relying-on-teleprompters-to-deliver-his-closing-speech/2012/11/04/32497b9e-26ab-11e2-b2a0-ae18d6159439_story.html&#x22;&#x3E;because&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Romney has been relying more and more on teleprompters in recent days as he swoops in and out of the battleground states delivering a scripted closing argument. [...]
&#x3C;p&#x3E;And he is relying on a written script to deliver the words just right; at five of his seven rallies since the Wisconsin speech, Romney has read from teleprompters.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Sure, Romney may have made fun of the president for using prepared remarks in the past. And sure, John Archer, the Iowa Republican who introduced Romney at a rally on Sunday morning may have made a teleprompter joke without realizing that &#x22;the twin teleprompters erected at both sides of the podium had been set up for his own party&#x2019;s nominee,&#x22; but, see, it&#x27;s different for Romney now because his campaign is suddenly concerned with [&#x3C;em&#x3E;pause for more laughter&#x3C;/em&#x3E;] &#x22;accuracy&#x22;:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Romney&#x2019;s aides said the candidate would keep using teleprompters on the home stretch because his closing argument speech is new and he wants to achieve precision and accuracy as he lays out his fresh message. &#x201C;We don&#x2019;t have a problem with teleprompters,&#x201D; one aide said.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Too bad for Romney that even when reading off a teleprompter, he still struggles with that whole accuracy thing:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;But even his new teleprompters haven&#x2019;t kept Romney from making small mistakes. The candidate, his voice sounding tired and a bit hoarse from long days of barnstorming, said &#x201C;employment&#x201D; instead of his intended &#x201C;unemployment&#x201D; at his Saturday morning rally in Des Moines.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Employment, unemployment&#x2014;eh, whatever. In two days, Mitt can take his teleprompter and shove it up his car elevator shaft.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;i&#x3E;Please give the president a boost by &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/dkforobama?refcode=10_23_fpdebate-mittwon&#x22;&#x3E;donating&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to help him close strong in the final day of this campaign.&#x3C;/i&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>On Teleprompters, Bell-Bashing, and the Noise Machine&#x2122;</title>

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So, the latest piece of b.s. out of the right-wing noise machine is that teleprompters should be made illegal in presidential races. Thanks for that one Ricky! Of course, that wasn&#x27;t a campaign event where you used one was it?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>All other ideas exhausted, Republicans continue attack on TelePrompters</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/3/12/1073657/-All-other-ideas-exhausted-Republicans-continue-attack-on-TelePrompters</link>
<description>
&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-c&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img width=&#x22;550&#x22; height=&#x22;326&#x22; alt=&#x22;Ronald Reagan using a teleprompter&#x22; src=&#x22;http://images2.dailykos.com/i/user/30549/Reagan_salutes_teleprompter.jpg&#x22; /&#x3E;
&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-cap&#x22;&#x3E;Fraaaaaaaaaud.&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
Dear Every Republican: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/republicans-war-on-the-teleprompter--and-its-limits/2012/03/12/gIQAjuMV7R_blog.html?wprss=rss_politics&#x22;&#x3E;Your argument is bad and you should feel bad&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum took the TelePrompter criticism to a whole new level over the weekend by declaring that &#x201C;when you run for president of the United States, it should be illegal to read off a TelePrompter,&#x201D; adding: &#x201C;Because all you&#x2019;re doing is reading someone else&#x2019;s words to people.&#x201D;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Ah, the TelePrompter attack. Good ol&#x27; Prompty. Ol&#x27; Relia-bull.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;All right, so let&#x27;s review. Every candidate in the race uses a TelePrompter. Every national figure who gives a national speech has, I suspect, used a TelePrompter when available. Every modern president has used TelePrompters. Ronald Reagan himself, patron saint of modern conservatism, he of the speeches that supposedly moved history, the man of steely gaze and steelier hair, relied heavily on TelePrompters to say that stuff he said. Some of the attacks on TelePrompters from the current Republican field have been uttered from behind TelePrompters. We know all that, right? &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/02/01/1060719/-Teleprompters-are-stupid-only-when-Obama-uses-them?via=search&#x22;&#x3E;Of course&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. So do they.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The TelePrompter attack is basically a way of calling someone dumb. Now, Rick Santorum may or may not be smart enough to realize that, before the days of the TelePrompter, people used to read speeches from these little things called &#x3C;em&#x3E;notes&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x2014;I hear tell that such arcane things still go on, in the bowels of the House and Senate, though I presume the ex-senator never noticed such things. Most of the great speeches of history were, well, written down (and Rick Santorum, it should be noted, did not deliver any of them). The TelePrompter is just a way to do the same thing while keeping your face towards the television cameras, right?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have to say, none of the debate performances by Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich or Mitt-Tron has impressed me as to their off-prompter skills. We&#x27;ve heard Obama in debates before, too. So I&#x27;m a bit intrigued by Rick&#x27;s suggestion here. Let&#x27;s say we banned TelePrompters. If we&#x27;re going to get to the true spirit of what Rick Santorum wants to see, extemporaneous speaking, we&#x27;d have to ban notes as well. How would that play out?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well, it might have done an even better job at revealing George W. Bush as a barely literate man-child, so that&#x27;d be a plus. It would have devastated the Reagan legacy: Everything Reagan was, he owed to the public persona crafted by his pre-written speeches. So there&#x27;s definitely some upsides there. On the downsides, much of the job of president is to convey information tersely and (cough) hopefully accurately to the public, so having that done &#x3C;em&#x3E;professionally&#x3C;/em&#x3E; isn&#x27;t exactly a bad thing. You wouldn&#x27;t hire a plumber who showed up without a wrench, saying &#x22;my grandpappy before me used his teeth, and I&#x27;ll die doing the same.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;But mostly I&#x27;m intrigued by the thought of politicians defending themselves extemporaneously or near-extemporaneously, and you know what? We&#x27;re getting that now, in the debates. We&#x27;ll be getting that again later in the year between Obama and whoever (Mitt) the Republicans pick as their eventual (Mitt) candidate. We don&#x27;t have to speculate as to how it will look, because we&#x27;ll be getting a front row seat soon enough. Place your bets, Rick, place your bets.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And who said it if they were elected, as well as all them still popping up joke lines about.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Well looks like it might have been a true statement as the one who promised has found another means, and not cliff notes on the hands, to make sure they read correctly so as not cause a gotcha moment.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This was the promise: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/08/michele-bachmann-promises-no-teleprompters-in-white-house-if-elected/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;Michele Bachmann Promises &#x2018;No Teleprompters&#x2019; in White House if Elected&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;And on the flip is what I just watched, it&#x27;ll come in at about the 55second mark and only be there for a few.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Daschle, Emmanuel, Summers, &#x26; Geithner: &#x22;Huh?&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/10/6/908100/-Daschle-Emmanuel-Summers-Geithner-Huh</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Walter Mondale sums it up well, as does Cornell West - whatever magic the Prez had in 2008 is so far out of memory that the mojo is pretty much gone.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Not to say that our man in DC sold his soul completely. &#x26;nbsp;Not completely, maybe....&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But what incredibly crappy choices he made as policy advisors (foreign policy was good, and he made some good (not great) court choices. &#x26;nbsp;But the rest of his advisers were really bad, overall).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Anyone who pays serious attention to anything Tom Daschle has to say about ANYTHING ought to have his head examined, especially after the way Mr. Daschle completely ran the Democratic Party into the mud, into oblivion. &#x26;nbsp;Daschle started out with a great Senate majority and he was such a terrible leader that by the end of his tenure, he himself couldn&#x27;t get re-elected. &#x26;nbsp;He was an embarrassment, the quintessence of wimpiness, and as Arianna Huffington pointed out, on top of it all, there was more than an appearance of corruption - of having sold out to major airlines, and others.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Charlie Crist just got an endorsement that is probably making him and the GOP cringe right about now.&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/day-27423-charlie-senate.html&#x22;&#x3E;Medal of Honor winner Bud Day&#x3C;/a&#x3E; has publicly endorsed Crist for the Senate, but in doing so, peeled back the curtain on the Republican&#x27;s race problem. And Adam Serwer gets to the heart what that tiresome teleprompter joke really means. More below the fold.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
