Jane Hamsher's staff

If Bob Brigham had told me that his boss might, possibly, could, may one day, even in the most outside of possibilities, propose an alliance with teabaggers to kill health care reform if she didn't get her way, I'd never have taken his phone call.

Photostream from "a beer with Jon Tester" fundraiser 7/17/2006

In continuing my role as amateur documentarian, a role I accidentally (but gladly) was saddled with in yearlykos, I took my trusty Canon SD400 camera down to see Jon Tester. Moreover, as I was acting boss of my department, I took off work early to go get some retail politicing/fundraising/drinking done with our boy the next Senator from Montana... Jon Tester!

Tester said it was the kind of fundraiser he liked and could afford. I agree with that! After some engaging Q&A and engaging beer drinking, we headed over to drinking liberally at Zeitgeist... where we proceeded to do exactly that.

As always, there's more, and if you like what you see, feel free to reco.
You can also see the whole gallery here.

Me and the next Senator from Montana, Jon Tester.
He's a tall guy.
Also, guess where i'm from?

Proposed Guidelines for Ohio Senate Diaries

I was sad to see that today brought another pair of ugly diaries on the Ohio Senate race. The amount of (virtual) ink that has been spilled on smearing the hell out of the two candidates is something that I frankly find appalling, and I think it's time we do something about it, before this damn thing spirals out of control and gets particularly nasty.
So, I'm proposing some rules for diaries on the subject.
More on the flip...

Kaine, Kos, Gilliard make mainstream press in a BAD way

Thanks to Kos, it's now a big story.

Blog Attack on Steele Decried

A racially charged image of Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele on the Web site of a liberal blogger brought recriminations from both Democrats and Republicans yesterday.

The doctored photo of Steele (R) as a minstrel, and accompanying slurs, prompted Virginia gubernatorial candidate Timothy M. Kaine (D) to pull an ad from the site, stevegilliard.blogspot.com . Kaine's campaign had purchased the space through a broker that put his advertising on numerous liberal-leaning blogs. ...

Sirota Caught Lying About Paul Hackett

(Also posted over at Mercury Rising.)

Get a load of this:

Well, if we needed any more proof about how the Ohio Senate Democratic primary is shaping up to be a battle over who will proudly represent progressives on the actual issues and who won't, take a look at this Toledo Blade article. In the piece, Paul Hackett (D) - who bills himself as progressive despite no positions on issues - is now attacking longtime progressive champion Rep. Sherrod Brown (D) for being "too liberal."
Let's repeat that - the self-described "progressive" champion of the blogosphere, Hackett, is attacking a fellow Democrat, Brown, for having the guts to stand up and fight for progressive convictions. Incredible, sad and disgusting.

Sounds pretty damning, right?

But Sirota made the mistake of including the links to the articles he was misquoting. And if you read them, you find out that Hackett didn't say that at all. (More after the jump.)

Classy Move By Sherrod Brown

I have no position on the Ohio Senate Democratic Primary -- don't know enough frankly - but a move for Party unity deserves plaudits.

I agree with Atrios:

[Sherrod] Brown shifted his ad to direct people to Act Blue's general election fund. The money will go to whoever wins the primary and not to any particular candidate's primary fund. That's a class move.

As Goes Montana, So Goes the Democratic Party

I was fortunate enough to grow up in Montana, to go to school in Montana, and to learn politics in Montana. Senator Max Baucus was the first politician I volunteered for, yet I now view him as being worse for the Democratic Party than Zell Miller.

The maturation I've experienced is a process that Democrats, for the good of our Party, need to embrace.

That is why next year's Senate Primary in Montana is critical to the future of our Party.
Is Max Baucus Brain Dead?

As a Montanan this disappoints me. As a Democrat, this pisses me off.

Montana Senator Max Baucus is a skittish senator known for bolting and running. In fact, Senator Baucus has quite a reputation for running. On November 22 of last year Baucus was running from something for 50 miles when he hit his head on a rock and needed urgent brain surgery. I'm no big city doctor, but I think Baucus lost his fucking mind:

WASHINGTON -- Montana Sen. Max Baucus, a Democrat, said Tuesday he will vote for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.

NOLA: Boots on the ground - we need more bloggers

Having a crack team of bloggers on the ground has allowed us to do more than provide coverage, it has provided real-time communication ability and scalable models.

As many of you know, we've been working with Dr. Ernest Johnson, President of the Lousiana NAACP. In addition to all of the direct aid relief, we have also been working closely with local political leaders.

The following case study is just one example of why we need you to get down to Louisiana and help the NAACP scale up efforts.
1.5 Million Disenfrancised Voters

As many of you know, for the last week I've been all over the gulf coast with the Blogger Disaster Response Team. As I'm sure you can imagine, this is the type of A-Team that can break into a prison.

In addition to providing emergency support, documenting Lake George, and seeing the bloated Bush bodies, we've also been doing some political work.

I've been spending a great deal of time with Dr. Ernest Johnson, President of the Louisiana NAACP. While his membership is devasted, he isn't just in a damage control mode, he is also on offense. And he needs your help.

In Montana's senate primary, the contrast could not be clearer.

Yesterday, the two Democrats running against Conrad Burns sent an email to their supporters -- asking for contributions. And in one day, two emails show the values of the two candidates.
