H/t to Angmar: Would you want to clone your pets?

Thanks to Angmar for suggesting tonight’s question for the day.

I have been lucky enough to have had pets, dogs and cats, my whole life. Each individual pet is special in their own way, and I loved all the pets that I have been lucky enough to have in my life.

But being as I think most living things (humans included) are in large part a product of their environment, even if a former pet was cloned he/she would not be the same as the prior pet. Plus with so many dogs and cats that are around today that are abandoned and homeless I think it would be better to be grateful for the time that you and your pet shared together and to be lucky enough to share a new relationship with a rescued pet and to have the old relationship hold a special place in your heart.

How about you? Would you like, if possible, to clone your pets?

China is building an enormous cloning factory

There are a lot of people in China. According to worldmeters.com, there are 1,406,146,781 … 2 … 3 … people in China. Those are many mouths to feed and China thinks that it’s time to start cloning animals for food and other things:

BoyaLife, the company partnered with South Korea's Sooam Biotech and creating the 14,000 square-metre facility in Tianjin, said the focus of its work would be cloning gcattle to keep up with Chinese demand for the meat.

“We are going [down] a path that no one has ever travelled,” BoyaLife company chief executive Xu Xiachun told the Guardian.

The factory hopes to produce around 100,000 cow embryos annually – eventually taking five per cent of the Chinese market for beef, according to Mr Xiachun.

One of the catches is that South Korea’s Sooam Biotech has a super shady past.

The planned cloning factory is built in partnership with Sooam Biotech, a South Korean firm run by Seoul-based Hwang Woo-suk. Hwang, once dubbed the “king of cloning,” was found guilty in 2006 of fraud and gross ethical lapses in his research and ways of obtaining human eggs for his lab work.

Besides cattle the company is looking into cloning everything from sniffer dogs to champion race horses. According to the SkyNews the public has some PR suggestions for the Chinese government:

"Is this meat going to be sold in South Korea or China? If in China, please make our leaders eat it first," said one user.

Another commenter wrote sarcastically: "This beef definitely must first be saved just for the central government leaders; only after they and their families have eaten it for 10 years should they deign to give it to us, the people! Really can't wait!"

This sounds pretty good to me!

US Business Loves Easy Money

For almost any product and brand you may have in your home, there is a Chinese clone out there somewhere in Asia. Common wisdom is that these are cheap knock-offs, but many of them are in fact exact duplicates that come from the exact same factories; a side-effect of offshoring.

Although one may first think of the last profits from these name-brand knock-offs, the real implications are much worse for American business than a few pirate iPhones.

Who Cares About Frankenburgers?

A doped-up, miserable cow doesn't have a really inspiring aura. At least it is energetically alive. Frankenburgers and Frankenmilk might just as well be imported from Mars. Energetically, they are completely bizarre.

Here, intrepid aura reader Rose Rosetree explains further why she believes it is vital that consumers fight the FDA's ruling about cloned beef, pork, and goats.

Cloned Beef -- Soul or No Soul?

Cloned beef isn't as controversial as it should be, according to this professional aura reader. Here I answer the best, practical questions I've received so far about my finding that cloned animals don't have auras.

What will it mean for you if the FDA and USDA put cloned milk, cheese, and meat -- unlabeled -- into your food supply?

How You Can Protest Cloned Beef

Cloned beef may be healthy according to the FDA, but energetically it is toxic. Aura reader Rose Rosetree, author of "Aura Reading Through All Your Senses," suggests one way to protest, and why.

BTW, since her post submitted yesterday, Rose has done several media interviews on this topic.

Sleazy party switch in Canada--straight from the Repub playbook

Well, well. It looks like newly-minted Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper didn't take long to show his true colors (or colours, if you will). After basically portraying himself as a "compassionate conservative" in everything but name, Harper took a page from the Repub playbook. He persuaded a newly reelected member of Paul Martin's outgoing cabinet to switch parties.

Former industry minister David Emerson said his decision to defect from the Liberals and take a cabinet post in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government was made to better serve his constituents.

The Vancouver MP and former head of lumber giant Canfor stunned onlookers when he arrived at Rideau Hall shortly before the Tory cabinet was to be announced Monday.

Soon after, he was sworn in as the new Conservative Minister of International Trade and the Minister responsible for the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010.

One word: sleazy. At least that's the only printable word I can use here.

Why we shouldn't ban human-animal clones

Among other things mentioned during the State of the Union address was this gem:

Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research, human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling or patenting human embryos.

Sounds semi-reasonable, right? But, I'm willing to bet you didn't know that human-animal hybrids are actually an up-and-coming method of understanding genetic diseases.

How? More on the flip.
