<description>&#x3C;div&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;

&#x3C;div&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Tuesday: &#xA0;A day to ask, WTF??&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;figure class=&#x22;image-captioned&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.flickr.com/photos/71829982@N00/5713737626/&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img alt=&#x22;Itzl Alerting&#x22; height=&#x22;75&#x22; src=&#x22;https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2310/5713737626_1fa725a5fe_t.jpg&#x22; width=&#x22;100&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;div&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
&#x3C;/figure&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;As you can see by Itzl&#x27;s concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you&#x27;re not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome &#x3C;em&#x3E;everyone &#x3C;/em&#x3E;who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So much to be Royally Pissed Off about in the last 2 years. Here&#x2019;s just one that really angered me from the start of u-no-whose Regime of Rottenness. &#xA0;Even before!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And it&#x2019;s a two-parter.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;First would be&#xA0;the Federal Government was dumb enough to lease one of the most beautiful and historical buildings in Washington D.C. (and that&#x2019;s saying a lot) to a crass business fraud. &#xA0;The building? &#xA0;The Old Post Office, completed in 1899.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p class=&#x22;is-empty-p&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And, of course, that fraud is DJT. &#xA0;Who has, IMHO, the worst taste in the entire world (people are saying.)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I won&#x2019;t subject you to photos of the &#x201C;Renovation&#x201D; the Orange One inflicted on this stately old building. &#xA0;But here are some before photos that give you the idea of what has been lost. &#xA0;And here is a 2015 D.C. &#x3C;a href=&#x22;https://washingtondcmetroarea.blogspot.com/2015/11/fun-facts-about-old-post-office-DC.html&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;tourist guide&#x3C;/a&#x3E; with 10 facts about this historic building.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Ryan Bundy: Native Americans have lost their claim to the Land.</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/1/15/1470295/-Ammon-Bundy-Native-Americans-have-lost-their-claim-to-the-Land</link>
<description>&#x3C;h4&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://news.yahoo.com/4-000-artifacts-stored-oregon-refuge-held-armed-061523370.html&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; title=&#x22;&#x22;&#x3E;4,000 artifacts stored at Oregon refuge held by armed group&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/h4&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;There is a variety of enraging things to read at that news article, I am focusing on this issue largely due to fair-use limitations and to highlight the utter vandalism these cretins stand ready to commit.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;They have happily done it before: these assholes have vandalized Native American sites before:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In 2014, Ryan Bundy and supporters of the Bundy family rode ATVs on federal land closed to motorized vehicles in Utah as part of a protest. Their route took them along an illegal trail that crossed through Native American archeological sites.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Nothing substantial happened to them then.&#xA0; &#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.thewire.com/national/2014/05/bundy-supporters-drove-atvs-through-native-american-ruins/362053/&#x22; target=&#x22;_blank&#x22;&#x3E;More&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In 2007, an illegal ATV trail was discovered, sections of which ran right through some of these archaeological sites. The BLM then ruled that motorized vehicles were illegal in the canyon, and ATV and anti-federal enthusiasts have protested &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.hcn.org/wotr/recapture-canyon-and-an-illegal-atv-trail&#x22;&#x3E;ever since&#x3C;/a&#x3E; -- well before the Bundy Ranch debacle.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#xA0;&#x2014; &#x2014; &#x2014; &#x2014;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Bundy Ranch put squabbles with the BLM in the national spotlight, and so Lyman&#x27;s rally for the right to potentially destroy Native American artifacts brought several Bundy supporters -- including Bundy&#x27;s son, Ryan. Also people wearing camouflage and a guy with an assault rifle, &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/57909181-78/amp-blm-canyon-lands.html.csp&#x22;&#x3E;according to the &#x3C;em&#x3E;Tribune&#x3C;/em&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. There were also American flags, which makes no sense.&#xA0;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Both the BLM and the sheriff&#x27;s department came to the rally, but whatever skirmishes the ATV riders were anticipating/hoping for didn&#x27;t come to pass. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;The BLM simply recorded the proceedings to prosecute offenders later. The sheriff&#x27;s deputies said they were only there to keep the peace, and any punishment would have to come from the BLM, since &#x22;they&#x27;re the ones that closed the road.&#x22; &#x3C;/strong&#x3E;Thanks, deputies.&#xA0;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Yeah&#x2026; thanks, Deputies. Coddling them is what emboldens them. Thanks a lot.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;The coddling continues to embolden them: more from Yahoo News&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Bundy said people interested in archeology are welcome to explore the refuge, but that cattle ranchers and loggers should have priority when it comes to land use.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Before white man came, so to speak, there was nothing to keep cattle from tromping on those things,&#x22; Bundy said.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is the kicker though, buried all the way at the end of the piece.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;&#x22;We also recognize that the Native Americans had the claim to the land, but they lost that claim,&#x22; Bundy said. &#x22;There are things to learn from cultures of the past, but the current culture is the most important.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is no different than the Taliban blowing up the Buddhas, or ISIS trying to find antiquities to destroy. No different whatsoever.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;While these faux-militia assholes are technically entitled to their opinions, however fucking stupid those opinions are, they are using these &#x201C;opinions&#x201D; (delusions) to make real-world decisions that affect all sorts of people who have JUST AS MUCH RIGHT to these public spaces. And they are set to damage irreplaceable artifacts because they are so delusional about their white supremacy.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is when they damage these things, trample ancient relics, dig up the land that is protected by &#x201C;law&#x201D; (whatever that is). Some of it will be irreparable and will be the fault of law enforcement as well for their utter and complete failure to lift and finger to do anything about these assholes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I really don&#x2019;t think the people clamoring for kid gloves with these vandals actually get it. Mostly it&#x2019;s people who would not even smack a jar lid to loosen it. The Cowliphate PLANNED on this and will push this and push this and push until there is pushback.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So far there have only been words and the Cowliphate i has thus far correctly banked on being coddled.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Coddling them = Encouraging them.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;They will destroy important things and they are going to hurt people and it will all have been avoidable.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But noooooooooooooo&#x2026;..&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;[UPDATE] I was in error about the quote being from Ammon. It was actually from his brother Ryan.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;(As if Ammo wouldn&#x2019;t spew that crap, too)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Politics is local: a national issue that local Dems can win on</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/23/1437881/-Politics-is-local-a-national-issue-that-local-Dems-can-win-on</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Tim Egan has a piece in the New York Times today about how the Republicans have killed the &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://lwcfcoalition.org/&#x22;&#x3E;Land and Water Conservation Fund&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, a federal fund that helps &#x22;conserve irreplaceable lands and improve outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the nation.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;This will have immediate, noticeable effects &#x3C;strong&#x3E;at the local level&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; on places in communities that people in those communities care about. &#x26;nbsp;In other words, both the consequences and the cause are not abstract - they are concrete and well-defined: &#x26;nbsp;&#x22;the Republicans shut down this park.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;&#x22;The Republicans are letting this historical site fall apart.&#x22; &#x26;nbsp;As Egan says:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Each of these places is extraordinary in its own way. And the efforts to protect them are models of community-driven initiatives. Typically, people raise private money on their own to buy land, or save an old home or battleground of some significance, and then use matching funds from the Land and Water Conservation revenue to complete the purchase.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Every day, the fund generates about $2.5 million, from leases on offshore oil and gas drilling. So nothing comes directly from taxpayers&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
This is a local issue that Dems can and should run on, particularly at local and state levels, blaming Republicans for destroying valued community resources. &#x26;nbsp;

<title>Horse Slaughterhouse to Be Built At Massacre Site</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/5/5/1206466/-Horse-Slaughterhouse-to-Be-Built-At-Massacre-Site</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In the United States there is no interest in the nation&#x27;s real history. We are constantly reinventing our national past to fit the whims of the day. &#x26;nbsp;I know this because one of the most important massacre sites of the last 150 years is about to be the new home of a horse slaughterhouse. Horses are deeply sacred to traditionalist American Indian peoples.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;At the intersection of South Dakota racism, poverty, cultural loss, political pragmatism and racial-cultural hybridity is &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/may/01/wounded-knee-tensions-south-dakota-tribe&#x22; target=&#x22;BLANK&#x22;&#x3E;the story of Wounded Knee&#x3C;/a&#x3E;:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;A proposal to built a horse slaughterhouse at Pine Ridge is one of many contentious issues that have emerged at the reservation over the last few months, a reservation that has received the closest media attention since 1973, when a confrontation between Native Americans and the FBI left three dead.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The most emotive of all the present issues is the proposed sale of land adjacent to the infamous site of 1890 Wounded Knee massacre, the last clash of the Indian wars in which the Seventh Cavalry slaughtered at least 150 men, women and children. Some estimates put the death toll at more than double that. &#x3C;strong&#x3E;The seller of the 40 acres, James Czywczynski, gave the Native Americans an ultimatum: come up with $3.9m, or I&#x27;ll seek buyers elsewhere.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; The deadline is Wednesday&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Let that price tag settle in for a moment if you didn&#x27;t spit your drink out. &#x26;nbsp;40 acres in South Dakota for $3,900,000. And it&#x27;s not even arable land in South Dakota. &#x26;nbsp;40 acres is nothing in the agricultural sphere. &#x26;nbsp;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is one of the poorest places in the Western Hemisphere outside of Haiti.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
People are &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/10/13/903691/-80-Unemployment-my-brothers-and-sisters-are-dying&#x22; target=&#x22;BLANK&#x22;&#x3E;dying because there&#x27;s an 80% unemployment rate.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let me state that if you read more, you will know there&#x27;s a debate within the tribe over what to do. I do not presume to interfere in a tribe&#x27;s internal doings or to condemn any in the pragmatist wing who rightly point out that people need jobs, or the traditionalist camp who emphasize sacred obligations. &#x26;nbsp;Because the agent who&#x27;s at fault here is committing outrageous exploitation. He&#x27;s a non-Indian who probably has little sympathy or kindness towards any Indian people. If you think that&#x27;s presumptuous, try being a person of Indian descent in the West. This guys looks and walks like a the duck I&#x27;m talking about.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is not a static place that was only significant once. &#x26;nbsp;We do have people who were there for the reclaiming of Wounded Knee and fought the FBI for it: Carter Camp and Meteor Blades.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;By dictating the rules for the media, who turned into nothing other than celebrity-chasing paparazzi, Sarah Palin performed the ultimate &#x22;gotcha&#x22; in a deft ability to manipulate a willing the media.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
