<title>Treason, Rebellion or Insurrection, Seditious Conspiracy</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/9/1245694/-Treason-Rebellion-or-Insurrection-Seditious-Conspiracy</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s a slow day today so I can&#x27;t help considering what Federal Crimes the members of Congress who refuse to fund the budget and instead have staged a shutdown of our government could be indicted with, in my own little world. &#x26;nbsp;I have concluded that if I were the President, I would give them two days to get back to work or face being indicted for each of the following:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;1. &#x26;nbsp;Treason 18 U.S.C. 2381&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than 5 years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000 and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;2. &#x26;nbsp;Rebellion or Insurrection, 18 U.S.C. 2383&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;3. &#x26;nbsp;Seditious Conspiracy U.S.C. 2384&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I would sue them jointly and individually for all of the costs the United States government is incurring. &#x26;nbsp;I am certainly against the death penalty but I do not have a problem suing every member of Congress for the damage inflicted upon the United States by reason of this shutdown. &#x26;nbsp;Extreme maybe but ... there is no end to this since the Republican party has been planning this game since Spring of 2013. &#x26;nbsp;They are achieving a government shutdown of all services which most people would find to be essential. &#x26;nbsp;They should be fired and sued. &#x26;nbsp;We should not be held hostages to these individuals, their big bankrolling corporate elite, and the alleged quasi religious elite who use scorecards to govern who should be an office holder by reason of towing the line to the list of Republican Tea party dogmas. &#x26;nbsp;Back to work...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Transform the NRA&#x27;s A Grade into A Badge of Shame</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/1/28/1182877/-Transform-the-NRA-s-A-Grade-into-A-Badge-of-Shame</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;We are told that we will never be able to get meaningful gun reform because the NRA will not allow it. They are just too powerful.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
They claim to have some 4.3 million members who actually pay them money to advocate on their behalf. They claim that since the slaughtering of innocence at Sandy Hook, their membership has grown. How sick is that?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/10/nra-membership_n_2449236.html&#x22;&#x3E;http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;In the days since the Dec. 14 massacre -- in which a gunman armed with a military-style assault weapon and high-capacity magazines shot and killed 26 people, including 20 young children -- the NRA&#x27;s membership increased from 4.1 million to 4.2 million, Politico&#x27;s Mike Allen reports. New members must pay a fee of $25, and in return get access to NRA events and a free gift.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Have some disappointing news for those members, however, as they &#x26;nbsp;are not really the source of the NRA&#x27;s power. No, to the extent that they have any real power, it comes from the hold they have over our congress.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
Weren&#x27;t you just sick to your stomach when you learned that members of congress, elected by the citizens of this country. could not condemn the massacre in SH for fear of upsetting the NRA?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
This is what NRA president David Keene told CNN about the talk of new gun legislation:
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;You don&#x27;t want to bet your house on the outcome. But I would say that the likelihood is that they are not going to be able to get an assault weapons ban through this Congress,&#x22;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Time to do something about this hold the NRA have on the Congress of the United States of America. Time to make those congressmen and women ashamed of themselves for associating with this toxic organization. &#x22;The lobbyist for mass murderers,&#x22; as &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2012/12/22/lawrence-odonnell-nras-lapierre-lobbyist-mass-murderers&#x22;&#x3E;Lawrence O&#x27;Donnell describes them,&#x3C;/a&#x3E; should never be issuing grades for our elected officials in the first place. Unacceptable!
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/12/19/us/politics/nra.html&#x22;&#x3E;The New York Times&#x3C;/a&#x3E; says that currently, 286 lawmakers enjoy an A rating. The House with 242 and 46 from the Senate. No wonder the NRA is so arrogantly confident.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A partial list of NRA &#x201C;A&#x201D; Rated Senators in 2012 Cycle:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://americablog.com/2012/12/pro-gun-senators-refuse-go-on-tv.html&#x22;&#x3E;http://americablog.com/...&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;1.) John Barasso (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
2.) Bob Corker (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
3.) Ted Cruz (A+) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
4.) Joe Donnelly (A)&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
5.) Deb Fischer (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
6.) Jeff Flake (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
7.) Orrin Hatch (A+) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
8.) Heidi Heitkamp (AQ)&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
9.) Dean Heller (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
10.) Joe Manchin (A) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
11.) Jon Tester (A-)&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
12.) Roger Wicker (A+) &#x2013; NRA Endorsed&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;A more extensive list can be found &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/12/17/where-the-senate-stands-on-guns-in-one-chart/&#x22;&#x3E;here.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;See &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://sunlightfoundation.com/blog/2012/12/18/nra-and-congress/&#x22;&#x3E;Sunlight Foundation&#x3C;/a&#x3E; to get an idea of the incestuous relationship between the Congress and the NRA.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I say we use every social media tool available to heap shame on those who are currently enjoying a favorable rating from the NRA. The old-fashioned, tried and true method of marching and calling on offices should also be employed.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
What sayest thou?&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Shared sacrifice in Congress! Deficits must GO! Democrats personally contribute 5X more than GOpers</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/3/29/961178/-Shared-sacrifice-in-Congress-Deficits-must-GO-Democrats-personally-contribute-5X-more-than-GOpers</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;With all this talk about deficit reduction these day from both sides of the Congressional aisle, I was interested to learn this morning that there is actually a mechanism for members of Congress to return part of their salary ($174,000 per year for non-leadership positions) to be used toward reducing the deficit. Sure, it would be a token effort; symbolic, if you will. But it&#x27;s an important symbol these days, one could argue.&#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It should come as no surprise that Democrats give back OVER FIVE TIMES as much as Republicans.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let me rephrase that: the one Democrat that participates in this program gave over five times as much as the single Republican that participates. Together, they gave a grand total of $2,610.39 in Q4 of 2010. As &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/despite-pressure-to-reduce-national-debt-few-in-congress-use-payback-program/2011/03/24/AFqjpCrB_story.html&#x22;&#x3E;the &#x3C;i&#x3E;Washington Post&#x3C;/i&#x3E; describes it&#x3C;/a&#x3E;, that&#x27;s &#x22;how much the debt grows every five one-hundredths of a second.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The &#x22;End Bribery of Congress&#x22; Amendment and How to Pass It</title>

&#x3C;p&#x3E;[Cross posted at &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.epluribusunumblog.com/2011/02/the-end-bribery-of-congress-amendment-and-how-to-pass-it-despite-congress/&#x22;&#x3E;E Pluribus Unum&#x3C;/a&#x3E; ]&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/13/943391/-How-to-Stop-the-Flow-of-Money-Between-CorporationsPoliticians-&#x22;&#x3E;recent diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E; of mine, I proposed a constitutional amendment to prohibit political donations -- by corporations -- to sitting members of Congress and the White House, aka &#x22;legal bribery:&#x22;&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Section 1: No elected member of the legislative or executive branch shall accept money, in-kind donations, offers of employment or anything of value from non-citizens of the United States.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Section 2. Nothing contained in this Amendment shall be construed to allow Congress or a State to make any law abridging the freedom of the press.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/13/943391/-How-to-Stop-the-Flow-of-Money-Between-CorporationsPoliticians-&#x22;&#x3E;Go read my previous diary&#x3C;/a&#x3E;; it goes into more detail about how this might work and why we need it.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;For now, I want to address the &#x3C;strong&#x3E;tactical methods&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; whereby the people could enact this amendment &#x3C;strong&#x3E;despite the Congress&#x27; hesitation&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; to restrict the ready flow of donations into their campaign coffers.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Breaking news- Department of Justice files lawsuit against Arizona law</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/6/882163/-Breaking-news-Department-of-Justice-files-lawsuit-against-Arizona-law</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;In a much anticipated move, the Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Arizona&#x26;rsquo;s SB1070 today, retaliating against the harsh anti-immigrant law that requires local police to detain suspected of being undocumented. The law, slated to begin on July 29th, is the subject of national controversy coming under fire from civil rights advocates for giving racial profiling the green light.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;Last Thursday, 10 year old Katherine Figueroa sat in a room in a Capitol Hill building in Washington DC telling Members of Congress about her personal encounter with immigration enforcement. Fighting back the tears, the young girl pleaded to the Democratic Members of Congress who were assembled, &#x22;Please tell President Obama to stop putting parents in jail, all they want is a better life for their kids.&#x22;&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Rep. Paul Broun: &#x22;It May Sound A Bit Crazy And Off Base...&#x22;</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/11/659263/-Rep-Paul-Broun-It-May-Sound-A-Bit-Crazy-And-Off-Base</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;That&#x27;s &#x27;cause it is-- and that&#x27;s &#x27;cause Georgia Congressman Paul Broun is. Crazy and off base; &#x3C;em&#x3E;way&#x3C;/em&#x3E; off base-- and way out in right field... beyond the stadium walls where the game gets played.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;There are 435 members of the House of Representatives, although one died and won&#x27;t be replaced &#x27;til January. Some, like Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Donna Edwards (D-MD), Jim McGovern (D-WA) and Linda S&#x26;#225;nchez (D-CA), vote consistently in teh interests of working families and to uphold the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution. But how do you find the actual bottom of the barrel, the one member who is worse than any of the other 433? Worst even than Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Mean Jean Schmidt (R-OH)... worse even than Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA)? The member with the most reactionary voting record for the last session of Congress-- and for his entire congressional career-- is a parody of a lunatic fringe nutcase from Georgia, Paul C. Broun. He&#x27;s the worst; &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.progressivepunch.org/members.jsp?member=HI1&#x26;amp;search=selectScore&#x26;amp;chamber=House&#x26;amp;zip=&#x26;amp;x=38&#x26;amp;y=7&#x22;&#x3E;scroll down to the very bottom&#x3C;/a&#x3E;.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Then make the jump and help me figure out why Saxby Chambliss won&#x27;t denounce Broun&#x27;s incendiary remarks about President-elect Obama.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>50 Richest Members of Congress</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/23/607667/-50-Richest-Members-of-Congress</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;You can find the story &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.rollcall.com/features/Guide-to-Congress_2008/guide/28506-1.html?type=printer_friendly&#x22;&#x3E;here on Roll Call.&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I love their disclosure:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Roll Call&#x26;rsquo;s annual attempt to rank the riches of Members of Congress is hampered by one fundamental flaw: It is based on the lawmakers&#x26;rsquo; financial disclosure forms, which are extraordinarily unreliable sources of information.
