<title>One really absurd racist myth</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/8/24/1324301/-One-really-absurd-racist-myth</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I was taking part in the cheeky Twitter meme, #TipsForRacists, the other day, and I heard from a couple of White, um, let&#x27;s see, what do I call them? Supremacists, sure, but too obvious - let&#x27;s try cultural warriors - White cultural warriors who evidently feel that if one expresses views that are anti-racist, they are actually being anti-white. They even linked to a music video to illustrate their pointy headed thinking.&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;div class=&#x22;dkimg-c&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;span class=&#x22;image_container&#x22;&#x3E;&#x3C;img src=&#x22;http://images.dailykos.com/images/101961/large/antiracistantiwhite.jpg?1408922029&#x22; alt=&#x22;&#x22; width=&#x22;550&#x22; height=&#x22;120&#x22; /&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/div&#x3E;
At first I thought they were kidding. After all, they wished me well in that last line, kind of. &#x22;This is tongue-in-cheek, right?&#x22; I asked.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Forgetting for a moment the semantic conundrum they put themselves in - if anti-racist=anti-white, then racist=white - they allege that people who are anti-racist want to destroy the white European race (whatever that is) and engage in a literal genocide of white people.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In their own words [emphasis theirs], &#x22;EVERY &#x26;amp; ONLY white countries are told to destroy their race and cultures via MASS immigration &#x26;amp; FORCED assimilation GENOCIDE.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Apparently, what these anthropological ignorants mean is, races that look different than white people seem to have their own global regions/countries, so why is it only white folks who &#x22;are told to destroy their race and cultures,&#x22; and not have a country of their own?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Reich much?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I know you can&#x27;t use logic with these people - it&#x27;s a waste of grey matter - but I explained to them, anyway, that racial, cultural pride is fine; it&#x27;s believing in racial purity that is racist. Had I had more characters, I would have added, &#x22;and believing your race makes you better than everyone else, that is racist.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I don&#x27;t think that would have bothered them, because if anti-racist=anti-white, and racist=white, then being happy to be white equals being happy to be racist.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Have a nice week, racists.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Who would you allow to make the Blasphemy Laws?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/9/20/1134200/-Who-would-you-allow-to-make-the-Blasphemy-Laws</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It&#x27;s a hot topic online right now. But the funny thing is, Blasphemy Laws, Theocracies, and Extremism are always front and center these days, especially in the good old U.S. of A.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Right now it seems we have some groups who believe that the Establishment Clause does not actually exist, or that it&#x27;s a bad thing, or perhaps some just don&#x27;t know anything about our country at all in this capacity. It&#x27;s very important to understand what the Establishment Clause is:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
This is quite possibly, one of the most important aspects of our entire legal system. It places a wall, separating church [any religion] and state [the government]. Meaning the United States, while populated with many people of faith, is not in fact run by any particular faith.
&#x3C;p&#x3E;You see, we have three branches of government, and &#x26;nbsp;the one branch mentioned here, known as the legislature, is the branch that writes our laws and/or changes existing laws.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Separation clause clearly draws a baseline saying that the laws are not dependent upon, nor beholding to a religion or faith, but that doesn&#x27;t and will not be used to prohibit a person of faith from the free exercise of their religion, within the confines of the laws of this land. Even if that means they have no faith at all. You don&#x27;t have to belong to a church or a religion to be an American Citizen nor to serve in Public Office.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;So basically, as long as you are not breaking our laws, you are good to go, you can be of any faith you want, or none at all. You can even belong to more than one faith or go church shopping. !gasp! And there is no official government test of faith or religion in order to hold public office. Though it should be clear right now, that religion is a factor for individual voters when selecting candidates. If it weren&#x27;t then our campaigns wouldn&#x27;t be constantly harping on faith, even when it&#x27;s clear that some individual&#x27;s adherence to a religion is superficial at best.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The whole quote of the First Amendment goes like this:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;

<title>Iowa GOP proposes the batsh!t craziest party platform you&#x27;ve ever seen, stunning work of idiocy</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/5/22/1093845/-Iowa-GOP-proposes-the-batsh-t-craziest-party-platform-you-ve-ever-seen-stunning-work-of-idiocy</link>
<description>
&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you need more proof that being governed by Fox News watching know-nothings and paranoid conspiracy theorists is a bad idea, just check the proposed Iowa GOP party Platform.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;No section on job creation. &#x3C;em&#x3E;Nothing&#x3C;/em&#x3E;. Ending ACORN? Check. Nevermind that ACORN no longer exists. Ending Bath-shit crazy UN-conspiracy Agenda 21. Check. Ending Sharia Law. Check. Ending the teaching of &#x3C;em&#x3E;multi-culturalism&#x3C;/em&#x3E; in schools. Check. Read that last one again. Really.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Here are some of the craziest highlights courtesy &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/05/22/488074/iowa-gop-platform-birther/&#x22;&#x3E;ThinkProgress.org&#x3C;/a&#x3E; . . .&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;BIRTHERISM:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; Under the section entitled &#x2018;Elections,&#x2019; the Iowa GOP uses non-specific language to hint at the idea that President Obama was not born in the United States. The section reads:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;We insist that a candidate prove that he or she meets all requirements for that office prior to being placed in nomination, including proof of United States citizenship.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;strong&#x3E;GETTING RID OF GOVERNMENT:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; The platform proposes the elimination of 16 federal departments and agencies &#x2014; despite the fact that throughout the rest of the document they call on these particular agencies to enact or repeal certain policies:
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;We support the elimination of the departments of &#x3C;strong&#x3E;Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Energy, Interior, Labor, and Commerce as well as TSA, FDA, ATF, EPA, National Endowment for the Arts, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;strong&#x3E;INVESTIGATING ACORN:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; The Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) came up a lot during the 2008 election, because it was a &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/224610/inside-obamas-acorn/stanley-kurtz#&#x22;&#x3E;&#x2018;radical&#x2018;&#x3C;/a&#x3E; group that ran voter turnout for President Obama. Critics &#x2014; and apparently the Iowa GOP &#x2014; believe that Obama &#x2018;stole&#x2019; the election using ACORN. Despite the fact that ACORN no longer exists, the Iowa platform calls for an investigation:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;&#x3C;strong&#x3E;We call for a full investigation of the organization formerly known as ACORN and its allied organizations&#x3C;/strong&#x3E;, call for full prosecution of those involved in any illegalities discovered, and call for elimination of government funding of such organizations.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;strong&#x3E;AGENDA 21:&#x3C;/strong&#x3E; While most think of Agenda 21 as a global sustainable development campaign, there is a long-running &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.theblaze.com/stories/is-the-soros-sponsored-agenda-21-a-hidden-plan-for-world-government-yes-only-it-is-not-hidden/&#x22;&#x3E;conspiracy theory&#x3C;/a&#x3E; that the UN effort is actually a plan for world-dominating government entity. The Iowa GOP has included this theory, as well:&#x3C;br /&#x3E;
&#x3C;blockquote&#x3E;We demand that the term &#x201C;sustainable development&#x201D; be defined, vetted, and controlled by county and state agricultural agencies whose private property it impacts rather than the UN, other international or Agenda 21 agencies, or any federal organization.&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
&#x3C;/blockquote&#x3E;
Holy batshit crazy, batman! This document should stand as a staggering work of mind blowing lunacy. Proof that in Iowa, as I suspect elsewhere, the GOP is too batshit crazy to govern
&#x3C;p&#x3E;More below the fold . . .&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>How do you fight stupid?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/10/24/913077/-How-do-you-fight-stupid</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;During my latest recovery from my last bout with Killer Khemo, I have spent a great deal of time watching C-SPAN. &#x26;nbsp;And, I have spent a great deal of time trying to understand where the various callers and guests get their opinions.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I have also spent many years tracking the effects of the late 1970&#x27;s educational revolution that focused on building self-esteem as one of the primary jobs of teachers and educators. &#x26;nbsp;(A revolution which I fought vigorously at the time, and continue to oppose today.)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I think we are seeing the fruits of this intersection, writ large.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Everyone is entitled to their own opinion&#x22; has become the dominant mantra of civic life, and no one stops to question the wisdom of this notion that opinion is a replacement for knowledge.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>The RNC: A Whiter Shade of Pale</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/3/575781/-The-RNC-A-Whiter-Shade-of-Pale</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;In all my years on this planet, I had never watched a Republican Convention, until today.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I didn&#x27;t watch tonight.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I peeked for a half second and the sound of that woman&#x27;s voice drove me right back to watching Venus and Serena. &#x26;nbsp;I&#x27;ll read the reviews tomorrow, and I&#x27;ll read the comments here on Dkos.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;But I did tune in earlier today and watched shots of the crowd of convention goers, in the background behind pundits, on the floor with more pundits, with close-ups and medium shots on C-Span.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m really finding it difficult to openly tell you how I feel, but here goes.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>On Multi-Culturalism-American Style</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/12/21/425190/-On-Multi-Culturalism-American-Style</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the low notes of the campaign 2008 is the frontal assault, especially by the Republican candidates but also in more subtle ways by the Democratic, is the notion of multi-culturalism, social mixing. The most obvious place question that comes to play is in the immigration debate. However, it also comes to play in what is not on the agenda and that is any serious address of the increasing disparity between blacks and whites in virtually every social and economic category in the fight for a piece of the pie. Take the study discussed below for what it is worth but as headlined below this writer finds the results disturbing. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of Little Rock</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/27/390850/-Reflections-on-the-50th-Anniversary-of-Little-Rock</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;History is full of ironies (and well as its share of tragedies, comedies and farces). These days as the fight for racial justice for the Jena Six unfolds down in Louisiana we are also commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the epoch struggle to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. For the nth time it was then, and today is, brought home to us there is no clear sailing in the struggle for racial equality. &#x26;nbsp;And we need not look only at those dramatic and well-publicized cases. In housing patterns, school population patterns, prison population patterns and general cultural and social patterns that promise of equality has either stalled or retrogressed. Further, as legal scholar Ronald Dworkin&#x26;rsquo;s has graphically pointed out in a recent issue of the New York Review of Books (September 27, 2007 issue that also cites earlier articles by him on other Supreme Court decisions last term) that well-worn legal strategy to order to achieve integration, with the overturning of the Seattle and Louisville plans, seems to be blocked for the foreseeable future. Undeniably gains have been made, but when all is said and done a very strong argument can be made that that youthful goal of mine to live in a racially integrated society seems as far away as ever. &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
