<title>Heads Will Roll</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/5/12/730642/-Heads-Will-Roll</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Various commentators have either criticized him or more benignly wondered if Barack Obama is tough enough to be an effective president. Maureen Dowd, for example, at times, has called him The One (as in the Anointed One) or Bambi (as in the Innocent, Wide-Eyed One).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;During the campaign she suggested that he was so afraid of Hillary Clinton that he would lose the nomination. We know what happened with that. And then, in his Bambi mode, she worried that John McCain would win. Again, so much for that. Now it is time to legislate by negotiating and fighting around with a resistant Congress and to deal with often-unfriendly world leaders. Would this inclusive, nice-guy-president be able to show enough muscle, even have the capacity to threaten and punish people in order to advance his agenda?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Could such a seemingly detached, cool, No-Drama Obama, when necessary&#x26;#8212;and in Washington and around the world it is frequently necessary&#x26;#8212;have the ability to bang a few heads together? Or worse. Not maliciously, but to get the job done.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title> Weekly Audit: Workers Will Build the Recovery, not Wall Street</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/31/714938/--Weekly-Audit-Workers-Will-Build-the-Recovery-not-Wall-Street</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;em&#x3E;by Zach Carter, Media Consortium MediaWire Blogger&#x3C;/em&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp;&#x3C;/p&#x3E; &#x3C;p&#x3E;With new bailout plans for Wall Street being unveiled almost every week, it&#x27;s easy to forget that nearly all of the work that fuels our economy takes place outside of Manhattan. While reviving the financial sector is an important part of recovery, any lasting economic solution must also empower American workers and protect them from corporate abuses.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Meet &#x22;sacrificial lamb&#x22; Rick Wagoner</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/31/714891/-Meet-sacrificial-lamb-Rick-Wagoner</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the most absurd comments about the Obama administration&#x27;s initiative to restructure the automobile industry came from the governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm. Her reference to Rick Wagoner as a &#x22;sacrificial lamb&#x22; after he was forced to step down as CEO of GM was offensively stupid. If she means that he needed to be sacrificed for the greater good of the company and country, then it makes some sense. However, in common and biblical parlance, the lamb was sacrificed for someone else&#x27;s sins and is merely a innocent victim. During Wagoner&#x27;s tenure, the stock price of GM lost over 90% of its value and its market share in the US and world markets plummeted. He has also been a poster child for stupidity, unethical behavior, and corporate attempts to influence public policy to the detriment of the greater good. While Granholm may have some legitimate concerns about the Obama restructuring plan for automobile industry jobs in her state, her tepid defense of Wagoner was a mistake.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;And now, a sad and sorry &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.wheels.ca/article/359152&#x22;&#x3E;century&#x3C;/a&#x3E; comes to this week in March 2009.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Just an observation on the auto v. financial industry debate</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/30/714824/-Just-an-observation-on-the-auto-v-financial-industry-debate</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Many have argued that there is a lot of bias in favor of Wall St. over Main St. As a whole, I agree. But I do not believe that I have seen this bias demonstrated by Obama as some here have claimed. I would just like to remind some that the president put in place a balanced taskforce for each industry. The banking stress-tests are currently underway...&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>A Good Reason Why UAW Needs To Take Pay Cuts</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/30/714731/-A-Good-Reason-Why-UAW-Needs-To-Take-Pay-Cuts</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;If we&#x27;re going to give departing GM CEO Rick Wagoner the golden parachute he has earned, the United Auto Workers are going to have to seriously make a sacrifice for this country and chip in. Twenty million dollars has got to come from somewhere people, and it&#x27;s time the middle-class paid their fair share to the upper class that is destroying their lives.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Fear and Anger in Michigan</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/30/714612/-Fear-and-Anger-in-Michigan</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;As the economic crisis reaches the end of the early rounds, all eyes turn to Detroit--knocked to its knees by the credit crunch last November.&#x26;nbsp; The news of the day: if GM wants more help getting back on its feet from Washington, there must be changes at the top.&#x26;nbsp; Thus, 30-year car industry executive, Rick Wagoner, is stepping down.&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;One question:&#x26;nbsp; If asking Rick Wagoner to leave is good for GM---and by extension, good for the country--why is there so much fear in Gov. Granholm&#x27;s (D-MI) voice?&#x26;nbsp; &#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Trade Wagoner for Auto Bailout $$? Hmmmmmm...okay!</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/30/714585/-Trade-Wagoner-for-Auto-Bailout-Hmmmmmm-okay</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Hold on. Let me think about this one. I don&#x27;t want to rush into any rash decisio...okay! I&#x27;ll trade Wagoner for aid to the US Auto industry.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I had an acquaintance whose wife got promoted to manager of a huge manufacturing plant. She was told by the outgoing manager that her fist act had to be to to pick somebody high profile and fire him.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;You&#x27;re coming in from the floor, and people think you&#x27;re one of &#x27;em.&#x22; he told her &#x22;You need to assert your dominance and fire somebody everybody knows or you will have an uphill battle at this job. You&#x27;re not their friend anymore. You&#x27;re their boss.&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;So she did. The day she took the position she singled out somebody she never liked, and she fired his ass effective immediately.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;THWAP!&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;This, in effect, is what Obama did to Rick Wagoner of General Motors.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;There&#x27;s not a whole lot of &#x22;middle&#x22; ground for events in &#x22;this day in history.&#x22; Events are either really kewl, or they really suck. I&#x27;ll let y&#x27;all try to guess which events qualify as what. ;D&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Celine Dion is 41 today. When the residents of South Park sang &#x22;Blame Canada&#x22; in &#x3C;em&#x3E;South Park: Bigger, Longer, &#x26;amp; Uncut&#x3C;/em&#x3E;, they HAD TO BE talking about her. On the flip side, though, this guy is 64 today:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Today&#x27;s Republican Talking Point: BUT WHY NOT WALL STREET?</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/30/714530/-Today-s-Republican-Talking-Point-BUT-WHY-NOT-WALL-STREET</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;So, Rick Wagoner of GM has resigned at Obama&#x27;s behest after failing to give the Administration a decent viability plan - and Republicans, with a reach-around from Big Media, will try to spin it like this:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;Why hasn&#x27;t Obama made any Wall Street CEO&#x27;s resign?&#x22;, then
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x22;Is it becuase he&#x27;s funded by Wall Street?&#x22;, so
&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x22;How come Obama&#x27;s heavy handed with blue-collar companies, but not white-collared one?&#x22;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Let&#x27;s do some quick and easy dissecting, shall we?&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/29/714406/-BREAKING-General-Motors-CEO-to-resign</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;This is interesting... Amid the revelation that President Obama is to introduce his auto bailout plans next week, General Motors Chairman/CEO is expecting to resign. Of course, he nor the board has confirmed. A statement on his future is expected to be announced after the President&#x27;s discussion on the auto bailout.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Rick Wagoner -- Martyr for the Cause</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/3/31/713805/-Rick-Wagoner-Martyr-for-the-Cause</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;At least this is the reality according to CNN&#x27;s David Gergen. &#x26;nbsp;Gergen appeared on Anderson Cooper&#x27;s 360 last night and I actually thought that he might spit at the camera.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Refuting ridiculous rant of Michael &#x22;Mitt&#x22; Moore vs. bailout</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/12/3/669131/-Refuting-ridiculous-rant-of-Michael-Mitt-Moore-vs-bailout</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; While &#x3C;del&#x3E;Mitt&#x3C;/del&#x3E; Michael Moore&#x27;s &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/12/3/74954/1532/390/668798&#x22;&#x3E;rant&#x3C;/a&#x3E; against helping out the Detroit big 3 auto firms (in the way that Wall Street big banks have been helped out for far larger amounts than $34 billion) is not without all value, it still comes across as overblown and silly.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E; &#x26;nbsp; &#x26;nbsp; Some points:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;1&#x22;&#x3E; Moore made his career by hating on (with reason, perhaps) General Motors in his film &#x22;Roger and Me&#x22;, so he may not be without bias or rancor;&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;ol&#x3E;&#x3C;li value=&#x22;2&#x22;&#x3E; He says it&#x27;s wrong to bash the Big 3 heads for flying on separate private jets to the congressional hearing, when some of the bank executives flew in on such planes as well. Instead, Moore should have said that Congress should&#x27;ve bashed the New York people on the plane issue too, rather than Moore giving a pass to the Big 3 execs for using those planes, ...a pass which is inconsistent with his &#x22;Blow up the Big 3&#x22; tone of the rest of his essay;&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ol&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;(more on Moore)&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Saving the Big 3 for You and Me ...a message from Michael Moore</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/12/3/668798/-Saving-the-Big-3-for-You-and-Me-a-message-from-Michael-Moore</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Friends,&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;I drive an American car. It&#x27;s a Chrysler. That&#x27;s not an endorsement. It&#x27;s more like a cry for pity. &#x3C;em&#x3E;And now for a decades-old story, retold ad infinitum by tens of millions of Americans, a third of whom have had to desert their country to simply find a damn way to get to work in something that won&#x27;t break down&#x3C;/em&#x3E;:&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>Fire Rick Wagoner (GM CEO)</title>
<link>https://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/18/663141/-Fire-Rick-Wagoner-GM-CEO</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Today, General Motors&#x27;s CEO &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Wagoner&#x22;&#x3E;Rick Wagoner&#x3C;/a&#x3E; appeared before Congress and testified that GM&#x27;s problems &#x3C;a target=&#x22;_blank&#x22; href=&#x22;http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27766792/&#x22;&#x3E;are not related to management but rather to the current economic downturn&#x3C;/a&#x3E;. &#x26;nbsp;Normally I would consider this statement to be perjury, but I think that Mr. Wagoner is really so stupid that he actually believes it.&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Read on for why it&#x27;s a crock of sh*t and thus he should be fired (for cause).&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
