Given the thoughtfulness and care for others of this community, I am quite certain there are many here, probably thousands that routinely donate blood. Those of you that do may have received a note encouraging donation recently. In general, people donate less over the holidays, and increasing demand is not uncommon. A few facts: 1. The average healthy adult body contains 10-12 units of blood 2. Donated blood is ABO and RH typed, and is tested for certain infectious pathogens 3. The most common blood type is O+, the rarest is AB- 4. In general, blood donations can be made 3 times per year 5. O- is known as the universal donor and is especially life-saving for trauma victims 6. Over 35,000 units of blood cells are transfused every day in the US 7. Sickle cell, trauma, and cancer patients depend on donated blood to save their lives 8. <a href="http://www.aabb.org/tm/donation/Pages/Blood-Bank-Locator.aspx" target="_blank">Here</a> is where you can donate blood or blood products, and eligibility requirements. Norm Coleman <a href="http://www.mnblue.com/norm_coleman_weasel_meter_oversight">only believes in oversight under very limited circumstances</a>.  Before I can tell you the latest way that Norm doesn't "do" oversight, I need to set it up with another fairy tale. Once upon a time in Chicago, a woman started a non-profit because her daughter had died tragically and preventably in a car crash.  Carol Spizzirri's response to losing her daughter is noble.  The non-profit's mission is "<a href="http://www.salf.org">to provide vital first aid skills to our nation’s youth</a>."
