I raised this ugly issue in my diary End of September there is yet another hostage. Many here assured me that I was wrong and the new law covered spending for next year. You were wrong. A headline in today's Washington Post is Funding bill’s defeat shows House GOP’s tenuous grip.  On the web the article may be found here GOP House leaders rebuked on spending. On the web front page headline reads Stopgap spending bill fails in the House; shutdown looms.

The bottom line is the budget fight continues. The issue this time is that the republican majority cannot pass a continuing resolution over democratic objections to how to pay for FEMA spending. And there is a little more to it than that.

GOP leaders were unable to overcome objections from Democrats who believed the bill did not do enough for disaster victims and from conservative Republicans who wanted to use the measure to cut government spending more deeply.

Continuing resolutions typically do not last more than a couple of months and if agreement has not been reached need to be brought again. Yeah some sort of compromise is expected, but the comments on my last diary were wrong.
