This is my first Diary. Ever. Please be gentle, I'll keep it short.
I don't know where the Metro gets these numbers, but they are reporting their first citizen death this year due to police shooting. We're nine months into the year. Three quarters are gone. The UK has had one death caused by police shooting.
Want to guess how many deaths in the U.S. they've tallied up caused by police shooting?
Seven Hundred-Seventy Six. 776! That's over 250 people killed per quarter. That averages to more than 85 people a month.
As the Metro article duly points out, the US carries a much larger population than does the UK. Approximately 5 times larger...so shouldn't we have only five deaths at this point?
You may know that the majority of the police force in the UK that has face time with the population do not carry guns. There are strict prerequisites that must be established before Law Enforcement are allowed to show up with a firearm.
Firearms are also illegal for the average citizen to possess. Not only is their instance of citizen to citizen gun violence lower, we can plainly see that their incidents of death caused by police shootings are lower.
The Metro has helpfully created an illustration to give you an idea of just how much less 1 is than 776...See below the jump!
