That's me. Twelve years ago, today.
I joined a year and a half after Markos founded the site. It was right around the time that Salon's Table Talk (my original online home) was well along in its ugly death spiral. I was part of the Deaniac crew that self-organized via Meetup and other early social networking media.
I remember those early days. It was like being on an early Usenet channel before the trolls invaded, very chatty and energetic while staying civilized. When people got out of line, the typical response was to post recipes. Now, it's to indulge in HR abuse, which is one reason why I'm glad HRs are going away. (Though I will miss sig lines.) One diary a day was the rule, and it was strictly enforced by the site software.
I've been on various sides during the various primaries. I've seen the political complexion change quite a bit. I've seen various efforts by various groups to seize control of the ship's rudder. Yet there are constants.
One constant that will always survive any hijacking efforts: The fact that this is a site dedicated to electing Democrats. Always has been, always will be. Forever and ever, amen.
I love Daily Kos. When other blogs have faded or destroyed themselves or succumbed to hijacking, DK goes from strength to strength. I hope to be here twelve years from now.
See you in November of 2027!
