Donald Trump has a substantial base of hardcore supporters—enough of them to make him the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination—but outside of that … let’s just say the man is not beloved.
Three-quarters of women view him unfavorably. So do nearly two-thirds of independents, 80 percent of young adults, 85 percent of Hispanics and nearly half of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents.
Those findings, tallied from Washington Post-ABC News polling, fuel Trump’s overall 67 percent unfavorable rating — making Trump more disliked than any major-party nominee in the 32 years the survey has been tracking candidates.
Democrats can’t let this be a recipe for overconfidence—after all, Trump was never supposed to make it this far. We’ve watched the Republican establishment learn the perils of underestimating Trump, so let’s learn from that. But let’s also make the most of it by, for instance, taking advantage of Trump’s unpopularity to work to win back the Senate.
