House Speaker Paul Ryan is fighting hard to keep the media believing he’s somehow better and more serious than Donald Trump, the man he endorsed for president:
"I do not think a Muslim ban is in our country's interest," Ryan said at a press conference at the Republican National Committee's headquarters on Capitol Hill. "I do not think it is reflective of our principles, not just as a party, but as a country. And I think the smarter way to go in all respects is to have a security test, not a religious test."
Uh, Paul? Trump had proposed his Muslim ban long before you endorsed him. This is not some kind of new information about the man you endorsed—it’s something you damn well knew when you gave him your seal of approval.
So you can talk as big as you want about our country’s interest and your principles and the “smarter way.” You can try to add an asterisk—“I want Trump to be president, but I don’t want his policies to be put into place!” But your name is already on this.
