Campaign Action
The House Democrats' sit-in for gun safety legislation continues, and it's getting massive support from their colleagues on the other side of Capitol Hill.
They’re also telling Paul Ryan how much they don’t care about his rules disallowing cameras, and so is C-SPAN. Rep. Scott Peters (CA) has been streaming video on Periscope, and has called for other members to use it to make sure the feed stays live. C-SPAN is actually broadcasting this Periscope feed, since Paul Ryan says they can't use their cameras. And Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY) was "openly filming Dem sit-in as House door guy appears to tell him it's against rules. Still filming.”
Plenty of members have been thumbing their nose at Ryan, in a fantastic display of civil disobedience. You can follow all that action, and see the photos, on Twitter, under the hashtags #holdthefloor and NoBillNoBreak.
As far as the Senators showing up, the list is continuing to grow, including Chris Coons (DE), Chuck Schumer (NY), Ben Cardin (MD), Barbara Boxer (CA) (she brought snacks), Ed Markey (MA), and Claire McCaskill (MO), to name several.
That's in addition to the early joiners, Sens. Chris Murphy, Richard Blumenthal (CT), Al Franken (MN), Maisie Hirono (HI). Or how about Sen. Cory Booker (NJ)? And Sen. Dick Durbin (IL). Add in Sen. Patty Murray (WA). Sen. Ron Wyden (OR) is, too. And Sen. Tim Kaine (VA). And, of course, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA). (And counting. Apologies for any missed.)
And in a fantastic display of civil disobedience to Paul Ryan's edict, Rep. Janice Hahn has Sen. Patrick Leahy (VT).
