American government should be like a three legged stool. Donald wants to cut off the legs.
Perhaps one of the greatest differences between the two major parties is their contrasting beliefs in the role of government in our nation. Based on the Constitution, our government has survived as well as it has because it was established as a three part government, with checks and balances that limit (and sometimes enhance) the role of any part or person. While they trumpet their support of the Constitution, the Republicans have systematically worked to weaken the strength of each leg of this three legged stool of our government. And then they say that government is not stable.
You know the ways that they have tried to do this, by blocking appointment of judges, by using block voting in Congress to keep any chance of compromise from happening, by refusing to work in any way with the President and treating him in a demeaning ways never seen in modern United States history. They also starve government programs by refusing to confirm important appointed leaders, cutting money for programs, and stalling legislation. And then they say that government doesn’t work and we need to privatize and cut at every point.
Donald Trump is the apotheosis of this approach, offering to BE the government all by himself. Secretary Clinton said it best when she pointed out that we had a revolution to get away from a government run by one ruler, the king.
So, I would like to see the Democrats celebrating the Constitution and the government that it created. i would love to
see a Ross Perot style lecture circuit that talks about why our government has worked and why we need to restore its power by respecting all three branches of government and funding it in a way that lets it function. And, I would work with every fiber of my being to restore that government to what it should be by working to get Democrats elected and then holding them accountable. I am sure many reading will join in this effort. Thank you.
